A CT scan allows us to 3D image the inside of your pet's body. It means that we can diagnose your pet with far greater accuracy and speed, potentially reducing the need for more invasive procedures.

We can use a CT scan for a range of issues and conditions, including but not limited to:

🩺Orthopaedic issues (such as fractures)
🩺Neurological conditions (such as seizures)
🩺Tumours (such as a cancer diagnosis)
🩺Internal injuries (such as internal bleeding or organ damage)
🩺Respiratory problems (such as lung obstructions)
🩺Dental issues (such as abscesses)

A CT scanner is a revolutionary diagnostic tool for us as vets, improving the welfare of your pets. Not only can it help us diagnose with greater accuracy, but it also enables us to intricately plan potential surgical procedures, giving your pet the best possible chance of recovery. Plus, the cost is commonly covered by pet insurance (policy dependent)!

This service is offered to both clients and non-clients (referrals) of our practice, and you can find out more by visiting our website!

It has been a while since we did a ‘meet the team’ post. After welcoming so many new pet owners this year, we will be introducing you to our wonderful team over the next few months!

First up is Emily. Emily is one of our veterinary surgeons who joined us in 2021.

Emily really enjoys internal medicine – she loves the challenge of working through complex cases and the satisfaction that comes with getting to the bottom of them (eventually!). So much so, she recently started working towards an additional qualification, a Certificate in Small Animal Medicine – PGCertSAM.

She also has a particular love for all things cats and has a keen interest in feline medicine and surgery as well.

Emily grew up in Hertfordshire surrounded by an animal-obsessed family! Outside of work, she enjoys looking after her ever-growing collection of houseplants and loves to travel and explore wherever and whenever she can.

In Emily’s words, “I feel very privileged to be a vet, and so lucky to have a job that has me excited to get out of bed every morning! Every day holds something different, and you really do learn something new every day”.

Outside of work, Emily has three cats that she adores – Freddie, Lila and Evie. They’re full of personality, and Emily says they have a lot of attitude, and absolutely no manners!

She also has a crested gecko called Groot, who spends lots of her time upside down and is most often asleep!

Many of our patients (and clients!) are fond of Emily. Her thorough, inquisitive and empathetic approach makes her an asset to our team.

🔴 Please share, in the hope that this year, we can save a life!

Sadly, every year, dogs continue to die in hot cars. We underestimate how quickly they can warm up, even on overcast days - often with fatal consequences.

Dogs cannot regulate their body temperature in the same way that we can. They are at risk of heatstroke in temperatures of 19°C or above! Leaving a dog in a car for even a short amount of time can cause severe heatstroke as the temperature can rise dangerously fast.

Remember! It is never enough to:

> Leave them to ‘quickly pop’ in somewhere
> Crack the window open a little
> Park in the shade

Never leave a dog unattended in a car, and even when travelling with them, remember they require cool air (ideally air conditioning) and regular access to water.

If you spot a dog unattended in a car on a warm day, please call 999.

Angus may look like a teddy bear, but we can assure you he is real 😍

This beautiful boy is only 9 weeks old. He recently visited our vet, Antionia, for his health check and first vaccinations. It's an understatement to say we enjoyed his visit!

Angus is a bearded collie and was as snuggly as he looks. We can't wait to watch him grow in size and confidence over the next few months.

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful pet dads!

We would love to see you all with your pets - be sure to share your photos in the comments or tag us…

Stray Cat 🐱

We’ve had a middle aged, male, unneutered tabby cat handed into our Sherborne practice today. He was found in the Pen Mill area around lunchtime today. Unfortunately, he’s not microchipped and we would like to find his owners. If you think he may belong to you, please call our team directly.

Thank you,
Your NCVS Team

No matter at what point you register your pet with us, we are here to support you, in person and online.

Pet owner education is something we pride our practice on. With so much inaccurate and unreliable information at our fingertips, we want to ensure our pet owners not only have access to reliable veterinary advice, but also have the tools to ensure you and your pets live a long and fulfilled life together.

If you register your puppy or kitten with our practice, we invite you on a journey (literally via email) through your first year of life together. We regularly update you on the key life stages and what you should be considering next. From socialisation, diet, neutering, vaccinations, and plenty more - we have it covered!

Have an older pet? Fear not, like us, pets’ needs change with age, and we guide you through everything you may like to consider for your golden oldie, too.

Update - this dog has now been collected by the dog warden.

⭐ STRAY DOG ⭐

We've had a stray Pug/Pug Cross brought into our Yeovil practice. He's an entire male (not neutered), and he is microchipped, but unfortunately, the details are not up-to-date. He was found in the Westfield Grove area in Yeovil.

If you think this could be your dog, please call us directly at the practice on 01935 474415.

Thank you 💕

Diabetes is a commonly known condition as it affects a large number of humans, but it can also affect our pets. Without effective treatment, it can be very serious.

Diabetes is caused by insufficient production of insulin (a hormone which controls blood glucose levels). The body is unable to use the excess glucose, so it instead burns fat and protein for fuel, which in the long term can lead to organ failure.

If your pet is diagnosed with diabetes, they can still live a fulfilled and long life through effective at-home treatments and management. We are here to support you every step of the way.

Diabetes can be diagnosed from a simple blood test, and in honour of Diabetes Week, we would like all pet owners to know the key signs!
✅Increased thirst
✅Increased hunger
✅Urinating more
✅Weight loss
✅Lethargy
✅Sight problems
✅Poor coat condition

If you have any concerns that your pet may be showing these signs, get in touch with our team today.
