It’s day 7 of no water supply on Hunger Hill, so here I am filling a dog’s bowl with water from a plastic bottle that I had to drive to fill up.
At the end of the day the laundry will get added to the ever-growing pile and we will go and wash-up outside, with bottled water, in the dark.
Being able to take a shower would also be great. 🤷♂️
If only there was a local water supply company that were able to respond to complaints and help us resolve this issue, instead of literally completely ignoring it.

Here’s a small group of the adult dogs helping test out a new feeding device.
Food Enrichment is all about finding ways to extend feeding times, as well as creating opportunities to perform an increased range of behaviours as part of the food-acquisition and consumption process.
We want to get the dogs using their brain and doing some work to obtain their food.
Studies consistently show that intelligent animals prefer to work for their food vs receive it for free - a phenomena known as ‘contrafreeloading’:

Here you can see the dogs have to climb, jump, stretch and sniff to find the kibble before they can eat it.
‘Nosework’ (using their nose to sniff out the food) also uses a lot of energy and has been shown to have positive effects on wellbeing:

Social eating in this way is also a great bonding experience; passively reinforcing low arousal behaviours in the presence of other dogs.
All dogs involved have been through a prior socialisation process before sharing food.
Enrich your dog’s experience of food consumption at home by ditching their bowl and throwing their food on the grass or in a bush for them to forage.
Hide it in more difficult places once they get the hang of it.
Next time a care professional gives your dog a Licki-mat and calls it Enrichment, tell them “no that’s a piece of plastic,” then send them my way ✌️ 🤷♂️ 🐾

This sort of Social Group & Sensory Enrichment is an important part of the Socialisation Training process; giving the pup some other interesting things to in the presence of other dogs, as well as learning how to enjoy being on a tether.

Our Field Trip for this week; a day out around Telford Town Park, with tons of Socialisation Training and a stop for lunch.
When we go out for a Field Trip, dogs have the opportunity to apply all of the Skills we have learned on-site in a real-world setting.
In this video the dogs have had a couple of hours of exercise and training around the park, before we set them up to settle down whilst we enjoy lunch.
