January 2024 Update

Dear Willow Barkers

As the sun sets this evening on 2023 ( having watched sunrise near Mt Bromo & Meru early this morning) I reminisce over my last 10 years which I dedicated to caring for your furry friends 🥰.

I think of the 100s of dogs who have left their paw-prints on me (some quite literally 🤣) & in my heart & how they, along with you, their devoted owners, have all become part of the History of Willow Bark Homestay.

Colin & I have decided to spend 2024 without the constraints of my Dog Diary (many of you know I have been very relieved to put away the jinxed purple one of 2023 - it had more than it’s fair share of it’s own adventures!!🤦🏼‍♀️)

Matt has been such a big help & very much part of WBH over the few last months & the current plan is that that whilst I will no longer be operating WBH when we return from our adventures, Matt will continue at Evelith till mid-May & then hopefully he will transition into the next chapter in his own Dog Care story elsewhere & I hope to be able to be a part of that. He will keep you posted over the next few months.

I would like to thank you all for you entrusting me with the care of all of your dogs - some of you have been on my dogcare journey right from the start & have, over the years, become friends as well as loyal customers.

We send you all our best wishes for the coming New Year & hope that 2024 brings you all you wish for.

Taking care of your dog's teeth is as important as looking after your own. Just like us, our dogs experience plaque build-up on their teeth. Plaque turns into tartar, accumulates around the gum line, irritates the gums and eventually leads to inflamed gums (known as gingivitis), which is the onset of gum disease. Bacteria from this tartar is also harmful if swallowed in large quantities.
Below are the weekly checks we recommend on your dogs teeth.

My personal belief is :
that the breeders & a small handful of very unsuitable owners are the issue here …. not the dogs.

This also goes for all other breeds of dogs (not just the dogs that are currently in the news headlines)

For me, is it about ensuring that breeders are held to task, owners are thoroughly vetted & made to realise that they need to commit to the lifetime of their dog - it requires dedication in training & huge responsibility in the care of the dog…. every single day of the life of the dog.

Simple:
If you are not prepared to put in the full commitment … please don’t even consider taking on a dog.
(these are my personal views)

Having had a “burn” from one of these leads, 25 years+ ago ….. and watching people trying to “reel their dogs in” off the road…… as I pass slowly by…. I can wholeheartedly agree with this American photo.!!💪
