Some useful information…
Why is grooming your dog at home such an important part of being a dog owner?
Brushing your dog’s coat helps to ventilate their coat, promotes growth of a healthy strong coat, and also removes dead and damaged hair.
Grooming also ensures that your dogs skin is able to breath, helping to reduce the levels of grease in their coat. Excess amounts of these natural greases can block skin pores, which in turn cause irritation and potential skin problems. Running a brush, or, comb through their coat can keep the coat tangle and knot free, also acting as a nice massage, helping to promote healthy blood circulation.
In turn, grooming your dog doesn’t have to be a sometimes difficult and harrowing experience, it’s a great time to bond and the more you do it on a regular basis, the more your dog will get used to it, resulting in a soothing and relaxing experience for you both!
When a dog moults, loose hair becomes tangled resulting in the hair becoming knotted and matted, which if not brushed out regularly can become worse, pulling on their skin creating painful sore patches, all of which is hidden under the layers of your pets coat. If the problem is left to persist, then it is likely that the sores will become infected, resulting in an expensive trip to the vets! Dogs are unable to tell us where it hurts, so as a dog owner, it is important to keep on top of grooming as it then also helps you to give them a basic health check.
Being a dog owner, you should check for matting and sores and also look between their toes where both mud and grass seeds are able to gather, which in turn can potentially cause a lot of discomfort and pain. You can also check for any unwanted parasites, general lumps and bumps, scratches and also, the condition of their eyes, ears and feet. This will then prepare them for these routine checks we do here at Hut 4 Mutts before their groom.
My dog doesn’t like being groomed, what should I do?
Always make grooming and handling a pleasant experience. Talk to your dog, praising them and rewarding them with high value treats if necessary.
Choose a time when you are both relaxed, perhaps after a walk when your dog is resting after they’ve been exercised.
ITherefore, it is recommended that you groom your dog from an early age, as this is the time when they begin to socialise, make associations and also, are able to learn that grooming is a pleasurable experience, and not one to be afraid of.

Thank you!
Every care was taken to ensure our dogs felt comfortable on their first visit, particularly as one is very nervous. Natalie listened to exactly what we wanted, we are quite fussy people when it comes to our furry four legged children but we were not disappointed. We felt very confident leaving them....
