Dear Customers, The temporary traffic lights in Shawbury are causing long delays especially at peak times. If you have an appointment in the next week please allow a little extra time to get here. Many thanks 😊

Happy New Year to all my fabulous customers. Thank you for your support through 2022. I hope you all enjoyed the festive period. December was mad busy and we ended the year with the whole family down with the lurgy. Now nearly back to health and looking forward to a busy 2023, seeing regular customers and welcoming new. Please remember appointments are 3-4 weeks in advance so booking at least one ahead on collection is really helpful. See you all soon 😁🐶🐩

DOG OWNER FRIENDS PLEASE READ

Any dog owners - there’s a bad virus going round at the moment, reading about it non stop. Vets are putting out advice as it’s spreading really fast and they’re seeing an advanced amount of admissions.

Try stay away from parks, don’t let your dog drink outside water, puddles etc and not to sniff 💩. And clean your dogs paws after every walk in case they’ve walked in the virus then catch it when cleaning themselves 🥺

This is from a vet 👇

Vets are reporting higher than usual occurrenced of gastroenteritis in dogs which is fitting with a wider phenomenon as reported by The Small Animal Veterinary Surveillance Network (SAVSNET). So far we have found that the cases seen- whilst clearly being poorly- have responded well to treatment.
The British Veterinary Association (BVA) advise that with prompt veterinary treatment almost all dogs make a full recovery from this uncommonly violent gastric bug.

How Is This Vomiting Bug Different?
According to Vet Dr Danielle Greenberg of SAVSNET, this vomiting bug is unusual due to:

Prolific vomiting of 5 or more episodes in a 12 hour period which can stop for a period (such as overnight) and then starts again
Dogs are often unable to keep water down at peak vomiting stage
Anorexia and lethargy for 2-5 days
Diarrhoea: Most dogs have ‘gravy-like’ diarrhoea
Full recovery can take 5-10 days

What We Know So Far:
This outbreak is affecting areas across the Midlands, Wales, the North of England and Northern Ireland
The illness is most likely a virus but has not yet been identified.
Seems to be dog-specific, thankfully humans don’t appear to be at risk.
This is not caused by Parvo or Salmonella

I thought this information was really useful and never would think of it had I not been alerted

This is an X-ray of a dog’s bent front leg. See that tiny white spec? That’s a microchip! It has migrated down the leg....far from where it was inserted, between the dog’s shoulders. This is actually quite common.....

When lost pets are scanned, the entire body SHOULD be scanned to catch any that have migrated. But, as an owner, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AT THEIR YEARLY VET EXAM, to ask for a quick scan to make sure that: (1) the chip is still working, (2) the location of the chip is good, and (3) that the chip info is correct.

Remember microchips save lives and reunite families with their pet.... just have it checked regularly!

Dear Customers
Apologies, I have neglected my page lately. I’m very much still here and been busy with my regulars and welcomed new clients. I’ve had some different breeds through the doors as well, ones I don’t see much off. An Afghan Hound, an enormous Briard, an Australian Terrier to name a few. Also Several new Norfolk Terriers which have all been a delight. Here are a few photos, something I must work on is remembering to take pictures of grooms as I’m completely hopeless 🙄
All grooms are guided by Clients unless there is a welfare issue and while many like elements of breed clips, most request a manageable pet clip

Dear Customers

I am remaining open during the second lockdown so all appointments will go ahead and please contact me if you wish to book in. I am following certain procedures which will be explained before your appointment. Look forward to seeing you all soon 😊🐶🐾

Please be extra vigilant everyone 🐶😟

Here are some pictures of recent grooms, some before and after when I remembered 🥴
All grooms are tailored to owners requirements, some clients like breed patterns or elements of the breed and others want a practical pet clip for ease of maintenance and cleanliness. They are all gorgeous doggies 😍

Smarty Paws has had a busy month since reopening, its been great to see all my clients, welcome some new ones and introduce several beautiful puppies to the world of being groomed! Some excellent home grooming during lockdown but with soaring temperatures, there were some pretty hot dogs, so good to get them more comfortable. Thank you to all my clients for your continued support, waiting for reopening and bearing with me while I've made my way through the waiting list. 🥰😄😍🐶🐹

Update on opening
I hope everyone is keeping safe and well.
After much consideration and slight relaxing of the restrictions encouraging people back to work, I am reopening this week. I am taking fewer appointments per day to allow for stringent disinfecting between each groom, dogs will be received outside the door so customers will not be in the Parlour and dogs bathed on arrival. With these extra measures in place, I am confident I can work safely, protecting my customers and myself. I have prioritised those clients who's appointments were cancelled due to closure and my regular clients, I now have availability from the 6th June.

SITUATION UPDATE

Hello all
I hope you are all keeping safe and well. I am really missing seeing my customers, human and canine. Unfortunately the Parlour will have to remain closed as restrictions remain unchanged. I will keep you posted on any developments. In the mean time if you can brush, brush and brush, I will sort the rest out! Below are just a few hints and reminders which will help.
You don't need fancy grooming equipment to keep on top of your dogs coat. If you don't have any dog brushes, a strong human hair brush and preferably a metal toothed comb will do.

Go through the entire coat. The diagram below shows areas of the dog which need more attention as they are more prone to matting.

Start with slicker brush or hair brush and finish with the comb so you can run it straight through the coat without any snagging

Go from point of contact with the skin to the end of hair. VERY IMPORTANT. Don't just brush the top of the coat, matts and knots remain at base of the hair. Part the hair so you can see skin and start from this point.

Avoid bathing your dog unless you can dry and brush through the coat thoroughly. Leaving an un-brushed coat to air dry makes knots and matts much worse.

STAY SAFE and keep well

Dog groomers standing together for the NHS.

This salon is proud to be one of thousands of grooming businesses following the government and industry guidelines, closing to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus

These are difficult times and much as we would like to be open, we must do what we can to protect our clients and protect the NHS.

We miss our clients and understand that they will be getting hairier, and being closed will have a huge impact on our small business but the health and safety of humans must come first!
Dog grooming is not an essential service and all salons, including home salons and mobile vans have been recommended to close to limit the spread of the virus, though we are aware some are still trying to work it is not worth the risk to have your dog groomed. Frontline workers are putting their lives and their families lives at risk to keep us safe.

Please Stay at home

-Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (if you are a key worker)

-If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at ALL times

-Do not meet others, even friends or family. You can spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.

Rest assured that we will be doing all we can once we reopen to get everyones grooms caught up. Please stay home, protect yourself protect your loved ones and protect the NHS.

Our pets are beloved family members, and vital parts of our households. So it's only natural that we want to know how coronavirus could affect them. But, can cats and dogs get Covid-19? Should pets be kept inside? Are animals at risk from the virus? And could our pets be implicated in the global spr...

With great sadness, following the Government announcement, I am closing the Parlour until guidelines allow me to reopen. All clients with appointments cancelled will have priority booking on business reopening. Please stay safe everyone

20/03/2020

I am now offering a free collection and delivery service for customers in self isolation or worried about visiting the Parlour but who still need their dogs grooming. I have a system that works well in which we need not have any contact.
I am also happy to bring groceries 😊

With so much focus on the Coronavirus I wanted to reassure all my valued customers that the well being of my clients and their Pets is my absolute priority.
It is currently business as usual, with ample time between appointments to avoid customers congregating on collection and delivery. I am following strict hygiene standards and being a small business, these standards can be easily implemented and maintained. There was some concern as to whether the virus is passed via our pets but there is no evidence to support this. Thank you for your continued support and stay safe!
