πŸ–€πŸ€πŸ€Ž Otis πŸ€ŽπŸ€πŸ–€

This absolute ball of cuteness came in for his weigh and worm check with one of our nurses.

These are great as they mean that we can have the time and opportunity to talk about all things puppy.

It also is good socialisation for your young puppies, they can come in to see us and have lots of fuss, cuddles and biscuits.

Otis and his pawrents are doing a great job at training and giving Otis the best start to his bright future.

We can wait to see you all again πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

πŸŽ‰ Now offering canine behavioural assessments πŸŽ‰

Our specialist behavioural nurse Jo is now offering house visits for behavioural assessments.

Struggling to figure out if you need a dog trainer or dog behaviourist?

Dog trainers specialise in teaching you how to use rewards that your dog enjoys in order to teach them what you would like them to do.

This could include walking nicely on lead, teaching your dog not to jump up on people, teaching them not to beg for food, or to settle down quietly when you need them to.

Dog behaviourists specialise in problems that are much more emotional for dogs, for example when they become anxious, frightened, or frustrated.

Feeling like this can lead dogs to behave in ways that may be dangerous for themselves and others, such as chasing traffic, panicking when left alone, worrying about noises and causing damage to themselves or the home, or behaving aggressively towards people or other animals.

These types of behaviours can’t be resolved simply through training, because as well as learning to behave in a different way, the dog also needs to learn to feel differently about things.

Behaviourists will show you how to help your dog feel better and resolve the problem by identifying and removing the underlying emotional distress involved, and then creating a tailor-made plan for you to follow that teaches your dog an alternative, more positive way of behaving instead.

If you wish to find out more or find out what would be best for your dog, then please call the practic as our Nurse Jo can help with both behaviour and training cases.

Goodbye Ellie πŸ₯ΊπŸ’”

Yesterday was our lovely vet Ellie’s last day with us. We are all very sad to see her go, but also want to wish her the VERY BEST of luck in her new adventure.

Ellie is relocating to the Lakes to be close to the mountains ⛰️ as they are very much Ellie’s happy place.

I am sure you will all want to wish her the best for her new chapter.

Ellie thank you for everything, your patients, clients, and all the staff here at Abbey Vets will miss you dearly πŸ’œπŸ«ΆπŸΌ

⭐️ STAR PATIENT AWARD ⭐️

Our star patient goes to this gorgeous girl Brie. Who came in today for her x-rays as she has been a bit lame.

Brie is a very gentle giant and is the sweetest of souls, she is a bit nervous though. So our team took it all at Brie’s pace and she did so very well.

Here she is on recovery getting hand fed and having her paw held πŸ₯° we even got a tail wag and kisses from Brie πŸ’œ

Well done for being so very brave Brie, it’s been a pleasure to look after you today βοΈπŸ«ΆπŸΌπŸ’œπŸ₯°

Today is World Kidney Day. The kidneys filter waste products out of the blood into urine; when they are not working properly, these waste products start to build-up in the blood, making the animal feel unwell. You can see the common symptoms of renal disease below.
