Genetics at Zobeyni
I have followed Victory Genomics for a while. It has to be said that the equine genome has so much to offer us in the way of understanding the results of our breeding choices. Bottlenecks and inbreeding can be caused by overselection for specific traits and looking at pedigrees does not always give you the whole picture. This study of Anglo Arabians in Sardinia highlights some of these key issues as well as the importance of maternal lines. I highly recommend following this blog.

A day out from Zobeyni 🌞
Shropshire is a wonderful place to live & the historic town of Much Wenlock does great little festivals & exhibitions. Their summer festival started with a marquee on the church green. Then we got tickets to visit private gardens opened up for the day. They were fabulous, from little cottage retreats to grand walled gardens amongst the grandeur of the remains of Wenlock Priory, an historic monastery. Beautiful day 💖

The Silver Bell family at Zobeyni💖

This is Crystal Solitaire just chilling in her paddock with her pals. She is a 2018 purebred Arabian mare of 100% Crabbet Stud bloodlines bred by my dear late friend Daphne Cocksedge of the Romac Stud in Wales. She is from the illustrious Silver Bell branch of the Silver Fire mare family. Daphne made quite a project of trying to keep the line going. At one time it was a huge family and very well thought of but the end result was that most of them went to the USA.

Daphne managed to acquire the beautiful, gentle mare Crystal Stardrift by Astar from Crystal Sunset by the Crabbet Stud bred Indian Magic son Rafid. Crystal Stardrift earned Premium status with the Arab Horse Society of Great Britain for the achivements of her progeny both in showing and performance. She also descended in the female line from Silver Bell's daughter by Romac, Grey Crystal.

Daphne took on loan the Crabbet National Champion stallion Klinta Sultan whose sire Shabakka also descended from Silver Bell. She bred both Crystal Stardrift and her daughter Crystal Shadowlight, by show and race horse Indian Banner, to Sultan. Stardrift had a son who is now with Sue Box showing promise in endurance while Crystal Shadowlight had a filly. That filly is Crystal Solitaire.

She is no less of a jewel for not having had the opportunity to prove herself to the world yet. I know here worth. Thank you Daphne. Miss you.

History at Zobeyni
I visited Daphne Gilbert of Star Arabian Stud many years ago, but this photo of her stallion Astar (Akhbar /Aurora by Oran) was taken by Helen Lewis of Clipper Wind Farms, USA. Astar and his full sister Sapphire Star both breed on in 100% Crabbet lines in the UK through Astar's daughter Crystal Stardrift and Sapphire Star's daughter Star Solitaire in particular. My own Crystal Solitaire descends from both.

Sapphire Star's son Star Reflection went to Helen's Clipper Wind Farms and bred some impressive Crabbet foals there.

Astar's sire Akhbar went to the Royal Stud in Jordan, while Star Solitaire was the foundation mare for Gunilla Hamer's Klinta Arabian Stud. Her sons Klinta Bashir and Crabbet National Champion stallion Klinta Sultan have made important contributions to Crabbet breeding. Bashir's daughter Moza (from Moongleam by Kildimo) has a daughter Munirah at Zobeyni and is now at The Plaister Charity's Imperial Stud. Klinta Sultan's son Moonlight Domino has joined Claire Seaward's Rainbow Arabians as her foundation sire.

It is all a question of quality not quantity.
