As it is hot over the next couple days,here are some tips to help keep your dogs safe, cool and happy ❤️
It's going to be a very hot one today.Here are some tips to keep your dog safe and happy:
-don't walk your dogs when it's hot!walk them earlier and/or later when it's cooler
-shade surf!try to go to shadey areas when you do walk
-take your dog to areas with safe water for a paddle/swim
-don't leave your dog in the car!even 5 minutes left alone in a car during this hot weather,is enough to give them heat stroke or even kill them
-if you do need to take them out in the car,then before they get in put the air con on to cool the car down first
-if you're not walking them,then provide enrichichment activities for them to do instead-although nothing which requires lots of physical exertion.Sniffing,chewing and licking are great calming activities
-ensure there it's lots of clean,fresh water available at home and take water with you on walks
-provide cooling mats,fans,cooling jackets etc at home (be careful to make sure your dog doesn't chew cooling items)
-provide a paddling pool if your dog likes water
-ice treats are great and can last longer than a normal treat-such as frozen lickimats,frozen kongs,ice cream,frozen dog toys, wet knotted frozen teatowels to chew on, ice cubes in the water bowl(mine love ice poles or yoghurts which have been put in the freezer!)
-provide sun shades in the garden and put out rugs on dark decking areas and even artificial grass to protect Paws
-brush your dog regularly to allow dead coat to come loose and keep air flow through their coat.also make sure dogs are matt free,as these can keep dogs warm underneath the matts
-keep the hair on your dogs Pads short and tidy,to ensure they can efficiently sweat through their pads
-keep their ears brushed and underneath their ears kept short and tidy to allow air flow and ensure they can sweat efficiently from inside the ear
