🐱 Grooming your cat 🐱
-
Regularly grooming your cat is important; it’s also a great way to bond with them. Here are some tips on how to groom your cat.
-
❤ Choose your moment - Groom your cat when they are relaxed and happy and have chosen to spend time with you. This should mean that you get a good amount of time to brush and check them.
-
❤ Let them familiarise - Allow your cat to examine the brush or comb that you are using. They may want to nudge and sniff it to add their scent.
-
❤ Know your limits - Start at the head and progress down their back, always brushing in the direction of your cat’s fur. You should know your cat well enough to understand where they like being stroked. For example, many cats aren’t keen on having their tummy stroked or brushed. This may bring the grooming session to an abrupt end.
-
❤ Enough is enough - If your cat shows signs that they aren’t enjoying being brushed, they may try to escape or attack the brush or comb. If this happens, it’s a good idea to stop and try again another time.

🐇 Feeding Guide for Rabbits 🐇
-
Different types of plants contain different types and amounts of vitamins, minerals, so feeding a variety of different plants is the key to providing a complete range of nutrients. Where one plant is low or high in a particular nutrient, another will balance it out. Aim to feed several different plants each day and not necessarily the same types every day.

✨ Fun Facts ✨

⭐ Having pets is good for your health. This is certainly a good one to throw into the debate of whether you should get a new pet or not! They can lower your stress levels and your blood pressure, help prevent children from developing allergies and improve your immune system. Quick get to the pet shop!
⭐ Hamsters only blink one eye at a time. So sorry, they probably aren’t winking at you, better cancel that dinner date you had planned.
⭐ Dogs have been to space. Not all of them, but a select few. Don’t ask too many questions about this though, as they didn’t all have happy endings.

There are so many fun and interesting facts about pets, we are going to make it a regular feature to share a fun fact in the future. Keep your eyes peeled for the next one ❤

⭐ Consultations ⭐
-
All consultations are by appointment (except in an emergency)
-
We work on an appointment system to allow more time for you and your pet. However, if you are unable to attend an appointment please advise us as soon as possible to make an alternative arrangement.
-
We do have a selection of vets here, please advise us at time of appointment if you wish to see a certain vet or nurse. We like your pet to see the same person through any illnesses for continuity with your pet’s care.
-
We are a fully computerised practice which enables us to keep accurate records of your pet’s medical history and also to print a full breakdown of costs for you on each visit.

✨ Train Your Dog Month ✨
-
⭐ Remember to always praise your dog for any improvement, no matter how small. It’s easy to get caught up in the end goal of training, but celebrating the little wins is just as important, and will help keep both you and your dog motivated ❤
-
⭐ By making training part of your usual pet routine, it’s a lot easier to fit in many small sessions. For example, ask your dog to sit or respond to another command before you give them their dinner, take them out for a walk, or play with them ❤

✨ Train Your Dog Month ✨
-
Building up in stages - starting small can be helpful, particularly when it comes to more complex behaviors like “stay,” or with behavior modification (when you’re trying to get rid of unwanted behavior).
-
Try breaking behaviors down into smaller parts. For example, in the beginning, if you’re training “come,” praise and reward your dog when they take even one step towards you. It’s much easier to add on steps and build up to the whole behavior once your pup starts to get the hang of it ❤

✨ Train Your Dog Month ✨
-
⭐ Use positive reinforcement techniques ⭐
-
⭐ Almost all vets agree that positive reinforcement training is the most effective method of dog training. Positive reinforcement training essentially focuses on rewarding your pet for good behavior, rather than punishing bad behavior.
-
⭐ Whenever your dog demonstrates good behavior and responds positively to your commands, reward them! By rewarding good behavior, you’re reinforcing the association between good behavior and good things.
-
⭐ It’s also important to make sure you’re not inadvertently rewarding unwanted behavior. For example, if your dog barks at you to play or jumps up to say hello, don’t acknowledge it or give in, as this just reinforces the bad behavior. Instead, wait until they’re calmer before giving them attention ❤

✨ Train Your Dog Month ✨
-
Next up in our information and tips is using treats or rewards ❤
-
All training works best if it is reward based. Giving your dog something they really like - such as food, toys or praise - when they show a particular behaviour means that they're more likely to do it again.
-
It's important to find out what your dog really likes and what their favourite things are. Favourite treats are often small pieces of meat or cheese. The better the reward, the more your dog will enjoy training and learning! ❤
