CHANGE TO EMERGENCY OUT OF HOURS COVER!!

Due to the ongoing riots taking place in Leigh, our usual out of hours emergency practice (My Pets Vets) has had to be closed tonight to ensure the safety of patients, clients and staff.

Northwest Veterinary Specialists in Runcorn (Phone no 01928 711400) will therefore kindly provide emergency cover for our registered patients tonight.

We can only apologise for the disruption and inconvenience this may cause and hope to return to normal service tomorrow.

Many thanks,
Jac and the SVP team.

We all look forward to spring and finally being able to get outside and start preparing the garden for the warmer months ahead! 🌷

Whilst our pets probably appreciate the outdoor company, our gardening efforts can create some potential hazards for them ⚠️

- Pesticides and w**d killers can be highly toxic, so keep pets away when using them.
- Slug pellets should be stored securely and only used where pets and other wildlife can not reach them, as they can be deadly if eaten.
- Compost bins and piles of leaves or grass cuttings can contain harmful bacteria and mould when they rot, so make sure you're clearing your garden waste into a secure bin, away from prying paws.
- Grass seeds can be a hidden hazard, as they can become lodged in your pet's skin, ears or eyes. As they're so small, they can move through the body's tissues, causing your pet serious inflammation or infection.
- Lots of toxic flowers begin to bloom in spring. This also means there are many poisonous bulbs to be dug up, which often have a higher concentration of nutrients than leaves or flowers, making them more dangerous for your pet if they are eaten. Keep these plants/bulbs in areas your pet can't access, or if you can, avoid them altogether.

This little fella found his way to our practice late last week from the Old Skem (Sandy Lane) area.

He was found in a bit of a state, out in the rain, very thin and needing basic treatment.

We'd really like to re-unite him with his owner before we start looking at rehoming options.

Pls could you contact us (01695 302602) if you recognise him or pls share this in the hope of tracking down his owner.

Thank you.

❄️❄️ CARPARK NOTICE ❄️❄️

Please be aware that we have closed off our rear carpark for a few days while the ice is still about....it's like an ice rink out there & I don't want to risk any of our clients/patients slipping and injuring themselves.

Pls could you use the on-road parking to the front of the vets, whilst being courteous to our lovely neighbours.

If anyone does require assistance from us, especially carrying in cat boxes etc in these cold conditions, pls just call when you're outside and we'll come to assist you. 🐾❤️

On Monday (22nd Jan) we will also be closing the carpark for the morning whilst we have tarmac laid in the main section to sort out those pot holes!!!

Many thanks for your co-operation as always.

This morning I went to support my wonderful friend (& skilled veterinary nurse) as she shaved her head after starting chemo. Having recently given birth to her beautiful baby girl, Naomi has been cruelly struck with a rare cancer resulting from pregnancy! She is going to smash it.....but it's a long and difficult journey and this is another positive step she has made in taking back control of this situation and owning it. 💪

As an extra little surprise, I decided I would stand alongside her and have mine shaved at the same time (so apologies the post is after the fact....but didn't want her to find out!!!). So, prepare yourself for a skinhead to greet you on your future consults.....I hope I don't scare the animals!!!! 🫣🤣

A great opportunity to raise some money for a worthwhile charity. I will also be posting a Go Fund Me link soon with Naomi's story and opportunity to support her directly, if any of you feel you're in a position to support either.

Many thanks, Jac. ❤️

I’m Braving the Shave for Macmillan and I need your support. Check out my profile page where you can make a donation.

I have been blessed to share the last 14 years of my life with this beautiful and gentle little soul, Daisy.🐾

Most of you will have seen Daisy sat behind the SVP reception desk when you visit (or indeed cheekily waltzing through the waiting area greeting your dogs!! 🫣😳🤣).

A few weeks ago I discovered Daisy had advanced lung cancer. Yesterday she enjoyed a lovely walk at Formby beach and we swam together in the warm sea. Today, she took a turn for the worse and we have had to say goodbye. I know it was the right decision at the right time for Daisy.....but devastating all the same.💔

I spend much of my time guiding and supporting others through the difficult decision of when to let their loved ones go and feel privileged to be able to help animals move onwards in dignity and peace. Making that decision today and being the one to let my own girl go, has been heartbreaking.

Whilst I always endeavour to be professional in my role, I am sharing this with you all so you are aware of the loss we are feeling at the practice this week. I would ask you all for a little patience and understanding as I return directly back to work tomorrow to continue caring for your pets, whilst trying to deal with the loss of my own.

RIP beautiful girl. 🤍🐾💔

Tomorrow the Parbold Brownies/Girlguides are holding a fundraising event for my lovely sister Julianna, who as you may know has had a horrendous start to 2023 with life changing injuries from sepsis.

Pls come and join us for a bit of bank holiday fun for the kids. We're selling toys and books and cakes, there'll be clay crafts, guessing games and lots of games and fun things on the field. ☺️

The Hut on Hill (beside Parbold Church, half way up Parbold Hill) from 11-3pm.

If you're not able to come and wish to donate, pls follow this link. https://www.gofundme.com/f/helping-julianna-rebuild-her-independence

Your support would be appreciated. (If anyone has an hour or two to spare to volunteer in setting up and running the stalls, that would also be very much appreciated.....pls pm me if so).

Thanks to all......hope to see you all there. ☺️👏❤️

**** PARVO CONCERNS ****

After a post raised on a local FB page at the weekend I have been contacted by multiple clients, concerned about their pets safety. After speaking to the author of the original post, it seems that there have been 2 cases of suspected parvo (unsure yet if confirmed by testing), both in animals from within the same multi-pet household.

There is currently no evidence that I'm aware of that the Beacon, or anywhere else in Skelmersdale, specifically needs to be avoided.

Parvovirus is a horrible infectious disease, but one which can be effectively controlled when the population is vaccinated appropriately. And whilst no vaccine offers 100% protection, it significantly reduces risk to both the individual and the local dog population.

Pls speak to us about ensuring your dogs are vaccinated or if you have any concerns that your dog may have contracted this disease. If your dog is showing any signs of possible parvo (lethargy, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, fever, haemorrhagic/bloody diarrhoea) please keep them isolated from other dogs whilst you seek veterinary advice and ensure extra hygiene.

Keep safe.

To our SVP family. Please find below a link to a Go Fund Me page that I've set up for my amazing sister, Julianna.

For those of you that weren't aware, Julianna developed flu symptoms on New Year's Eve, but deteriorated dramatically and was rushed to hosp the next day with sepsis. She had multiple organ failure and was placed on life support; we were warned she may not survive the night. 💔

She's an absolute warrior......so is still with us and is fighting hard to recover. She's come a long way, but the long-term consequences of her illness are significant, not least having had both lower legs amputated and now likely to lose most of her fingers. I have really appreciated the support I have felt from you all so far in terms of your prayers, good wishes and patience, as I've been trying to balance the new practice, my young family and weekly trips to South Wales to be with her and my family during what has been a horrendous time.

I appreciate that not everyone may be able to support financially, but would be very grateful for your help in spreading Julianna's story as far and wide as possible, that we might maximise the practical help we can give her during her rehabilitation and in creating her new 'normal'.

Thank you all so much. 😊❤️

It's International Women's Day, so a great opportunity to celebrate my (unintentionally) all-women SVP team!

I'm very blessed to have a team of such caring, hardworking and capable ladies to work alongside. This practice wouldn't be what it is without their dedication and efforts.
