It is with a heavy heart that I have to let you all know that Ruff & Ready Raw will cease trading after 6 years of supplying the best dogs & humans with delicious & healthy raw food.

I have poured myself into R&RR & I will miss you all so much. Many of you have become friends more than customers & I will still see you & your doggies.

Hello Ruff & Ready Raw team, I’ve been meaning to post for ages but I’ve kind of lost my Facebook mojo.

However, I had an accident yesterday which has resulted in me in a support boot & on crutches for a couple of weeks (hopefully not that long & certainly hopefully no longer!). I was running up a steep garden because Paddy (the pup) had escaped my parents’ garden where I was doing some hedge trimming, when my calf exploded & I hit the deck. I’ve torn the gastrocnemius muscle & it’s excruciating.

I can’t drive, or walk without the crutches, which obviously will affect deliveries & possibly stock levels depending on how long it takes for me to be able to drive.

Everyone whose deliveries yesterday were affected have been very understanding. Thank you!

I’m a bit whacked out on meds at the moment, I think what I’m trying to say is that it’d be great if you could let me know your requirements so that I can pack them up for you to collect. Does that make sense?!

STOP PRESS: The RSPCA reporting log has gone live. Please use it to report any problems you have with fireworks/animals as the government need facts and figures before they take any action. Up to now there have been no official figures because no one is collecting and collating the information. This is an official RSPCA initiative to provide government with the information they need.

Although it may look like a one off survey it CAN and should be completed EVERY time an animal is affected by fireworks. You can complete it as many times as you need.

Just remember the supervision of dogs with bones!

BONES BONES BONES!!

If your dog is fed a raw diet then bones are non-negotiable, they are essential to provide the calcium he needs for the health and maintenance of his own bones. BUT! every dog is an individual and as such should be treated so. Every dog's tolerance of bone may be different, from breed to breed, from dog to dog, and it is up to us as owners to decide if we are feeding enough or we are feeding too much.

HOW CAN WE TELL?? It's a visual thing, it is called p**p! have a really good look at the p**p your dog produces...is it white and crumbly as it makes it's way in to the world??!! If so, then you are feeding too much bone to your INDIVIDUAL dog, what is right for one is not necessarily going to be right for his housemate, or neighbours dog etc etc.

If you see white crumbly poo emerging, then your dog is being fed more bone than he needs and more than he can cope with and this may change throughout his life... what was right for a 3 year old may not be right for an older dog etc etc... as owners taking responsibility; we all need to be aware of this, this is raw feeding basic info.

WHAT CAN YOU DO? It's really simple, if your dog is regularly producing white crumbly poos then you need to add more meat/tripe/boneless in to his diet to cater for his individual needs... bare in mind that even 10% bone may be too much for some dogs, whereas others will cope with over 20%... they are all different with this. There is no 'one size fits all' and why should there be! Our dog's individuality is what makes them special to us, so get up close and personal with them and their p**p!!

BONE CONTENT will differ from brand to brand, from protein to protein. Keep a constant eye on what comes out the other end and as you should be the one cleaning @@'it' up, then you will know when you dog needs a little more bone to firm things up, a little less to smooth things out or if 'it' is just right!

RAW FEEDING requires owner participation, it requires us all to take a good look at the @@'it' and learn to produce the perfect log!! Sorry... but it is important, very important for the individual 'one size does not fit all' dog... YOUR dog

Reports of Palm oil on Lunderston bay beach have been received. How to recognise it-Palm oil is fatty and waxy in appearance and is often found in white or yellowish pebbles or blocks along the shore. Palm oil is usually foul smelling and very attractive to our canine companions and whilst it isn’t actually poisonous to dogs, it is often mixed with harmful bacteria and toxic substances such as diesel from ships.
Common symptoms following ingestion include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, dehydration and in some cases pancreatitis – a potentially life threatening condition. Washed up palm oil can also cause blockages within the gut due to its semi solid state. Please be vigilant whilst walking your dog and call your vet for advice if your dog becomes ill. The rangers have removed what they have seen, it is harmless to humans but please do not touch with your bare hands, several regular dog walkers have been helping by picking up pieces in their poo bags and disposing of it in the bins. Could regular beach users please consider keeping their pets on a short lead or assist by bagging and binning any pieces they find. Thank you.

Hello All!!

I hope you & your companions are all well. All well at the ever expanding Ruff & Ready Raw family (pet additions only 😮😂)

I will be taking a week’s holiday from 26th June until 4th July!! Not August. I’m tired 😂

Last deliveries/collections will be as normal on Friday 25th June.

For anyone who cannot store two weeks of food - you have a few options:

1) I can deliver a couple of days extra on 25th & then top you up to last until the following Friday on Sunday 4th - hope that makes sense to you!);

2) My lovely Dad has offered to deliver to anyone really needing the Friday 2nd July delivery;

3) My sister & her family will be staying in our house to look after the menagerie & may be able to open the shop for you to pick your own. This would require prior arrangements so that she is available for you!

I cannot wait! We haven’t been away since August last year & Craig’s Mum has been in poor health this year so it will be lovely to see her & the rest of Craig’s family & be able to take a little of the strain from my brother & sister in law for a little while. Also, beaches, hills, islands, woods!! 😍😍😍 🐶🐕‍🦺🐾

As ever I will have my work phone with me & will check as signal allows. We stay a way outside of Ullapool & the signal can be hit or miss but I will do my best to make sure you’re supplied.
