⚠️Avian Flu Confirmed in Haverfordwest and Pembrokeshire Area⚠️
We would like to inform our clients that confirmed cases of Avian Influenza (bird flu) have been reported in Haverfordwest and across Pembrokeshire.
While the risk to the general public remains low, it is however a zoonotic disease and can spread between animals and people. It is vital to stay informed and take appropriate precautions to protect both animals and people.
If you own birds - whether poultry, waterfowl, or pet birds - please take extra care to follow biosecurity measures to keep them safe.
Measures to take to protect your birds:
• Keep birds enclosed and away from wild bird contact,
• Prevent feed and water contamination by wild birds,
• Increase disinfectant use before and after handling birds.
To the General Public:
🪶Avoid contact with wild birds.
🪶 If you come across an injured bird, do not handle it directly until you have obtained guidance from a veterinary practice.
🪶Please keep dogs on a lead near lakes, pond, or nature reserves where birds are present.
We are still in a position to help with ill and injured wild birds for first aid and emergency care but please may we ask kindly that you contact us in advance of coming to the practice so appropriate biosecurity measures can be put in place.
We would like to thank all our clients and members of the public for your continued vigilance and care. Your actions play a vital role in helping protect both domestic and wild bird populations in our community.
Together we can help minimise the spread of avian flu 🪶
