Don't you just hate getting stuck in traffic on your way to work
Evening cool down session with the boy.
He absolutely loves water and although today was filled with mental stimulation, he was raring to go.
I frequently get asked what I use for reinforcement (rewards/treats)ππͺπ
My answer: What ever the dog finds rewarding.
Yoshi isn't always very food motivated outside.
I could use traditional toys, but I prefer to use things that become extinct once he has received them. That way, the only way the game can recommence is by re-engaging with me ππ―π
Being a Collie, he loves to chase...
I can use the need to chase as both the distraction for his impulse control and the reward by releasing him to fulfil that need.
He gets to have his ice cream π¨, if he eats his vegetables π₯
Everyone wins.

This video was sent to me by a client a little while ago and with their permission I am using it because I didn't get around to filming.
Today we did a free work session...
Free work is so, so simple and so rewarding for the dogs. It is a great way to build confidence, instill calmness and to get their grey matter working. It is also a brilliant for days when walks aren't possible.
As you can see in the video, there is a snuffle mat but there is also general household objects.
When setting up free work you want to ensure there are different heights, different textures, things that make noises and preferably different foods.
Here is a list of a few things I used today -
Empty plant pots x 4 (2 up the right way with a little cheese in the bottom and 2 upside down with dried liver treats under them).
A large tarpaulin (folded until it was about 2 foot square with kibble and some small pieces of dried liver hidden in each layer).
Another panel from my old jeans (loosely rolled up with kibble inside).
An Amazon box filled with brown paper (scrunched up the paper and scattered kibble with the occasional piece of raw carrot).
A little fold away step stool (kibble and a couple of pieces of green bean on the top).
A small licki may with suction pads (stuck to a vertical surface and covered with wet food).
I placed all of the items and scattered the remainder of his kibble in and around the items before releasing him to investigate.
His breakfast took 10 minutes to prepare and 45 minutes for him to eat. Much better for digestion and he was so tired afterwards.
