Remember, if it’s too hot for your hands or your bare feet, then it’s too hot for their paw pads! ⚠️

If you’re unsure whether it’s okay to let your pet go for a walk on pavements, a simple way to test the temperature is by holding your bare skin on the tarmac for five seconds ⏱️

If you find it painful, then your pet will find it painful to walk on!

To protect your pet, it’s best to avoid walks during the hottest part of the day, which is usually between 8am and 6pm. If you can't safely exercise your dog, missing a day won't hurt.

As the UK enters a four-day hot weather warning, here’s a guide on when you should and shouldn’t walk your dog in the heat.

Remember, a dog has never died from skipping a walk, but dogs have died from heat stroke.

The UK forecast is for high temperatures this week.

We often post about the dangers of heat stress - Cavaliers & all Brachycephalic breeds are at higher risk than many breeds.

Schedule walks for cooler times of day and speak to your vet about sunblock for vulnerable skin areas - never use human products.

The RSPCA have some good advice on their website including signs of heat stress.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic incident which took place on Saturday 15th June at around 12:15hrs.

The injured party was riding their horse along White Hills Lane, Stirton, close to Tarn House Caravan Park when a vehicle has performed an overtake and not provided adequate space for the horse, passing extremely close.

The horse has thrown the rider onto the ground resulting in injury.

If you saw the incident take place please get in touch with North Yorkshire police, quoting incident reference 12240105806 and provide your account as this may assist enquiries.

A conscientious member of the public who was driving a dark coloured BMW vehicle did stop to help the injured rider, police would like to identify this individual also. Please get in touch if you know this person or can help identify them.
