FAQ: Why do you need a vet referral form? 🩺

For the wellbeing of your dog and the safety of our Hydrotherapist.

Our Hydrotherapist needs to be aware of any medical conditions that your dog suffers from in order to provide the most suitable exercises.
It is also essential that a qualified vet confirms if your dog does not have any underlying medical concerns in order to have a puppy or fitness swim.

Dogs Hide Pain – Here’s Why You Should Pay Attention 🐶

Dogs are masters at hiding pain. In the wild, showing weakness could make them vulnerable, so even our domesticated pups instinctively mask discomfort. That’s why subtle changes—like reduced energy, reluctance to jump, or a change in appetite—can be signs of something more serious.

Regular vet check-ups, careful observation, and knowing your dog’s normal behaviour can help catch health issues early. If something seems off, trust your gut—your dog may be trying to tell you something 🐕❤️

Hydrotherapy is great for large dogs because it provides low-impact exercise while supporting their joints and muscles. Here’s why it’s beneficial:

🦴 Joint-Friendly Workout – The buoyancy of water reduces stress on joints, making it ideal for dogs with arthritis, hip dysplasia, or recovering from injuries.

💪 Muscle Strength & Conditioning – Water resistance helps build muscle without putting strain on bones and ligaments.

🐕 Weight Management – Swimming burns calories efficiently, helping to keep large dogs at a healthy weight.

🤕 Injury Recovery & Pain Relief – Hydrotherapy aids in rehabilitation by improving circulation, flexibility, and reducing inflammation.

🧠 Mental Stimulation & Confidence – Many dogs enjoy swimming, which can reduce anxiety and improve overall well-being.

For large breeds prone to joint issues, hydrotherapy is a safe, effective way to stay fit and mobile! 🐶💦

Here's how Hydrotherapy can be highly beneficial for dogs with anxiety 💦

🐶 Reduces Stress and Promotes Relaxation
The warm water used in hydrotherapy has a calming effect, helping to soothe nervous or anxious dogs.
The buoyancy of water reduces tension in their muscles, creating a sense of relaxation similar to a massage.

🐶 Provides Low-Impact Exercise
Anxious dogs may have excess energy, which can contribute to stress. Hydrotherapy allows them to release pent-up energy in a gentle and controlled way.
The rhythmic motion of swimming can also mimic a meditative state, helping to regulate their emotions.

🐶 Builds Confidence
Some dogs suffer from anxiety due to low confidence, especially rescues or those recovering from trauma. Learning to navigate water in a safe environment can help them gain trust in themselves and their surroundings.

🐶 Stimulates Mental Engagement
Hydrotherapy engages both the body and mind. The new experience of water-based exercise can provide mental stimulation, reducing boredom-related anxiety.

🐶 Encourages Socialisation
If done in a supervised, controlled setting with a professional, hydrotherapy can expose dogs to new environments and people, helping to reduce fear-based anxieties.

How Adrenaline Can Mask Pain in Dogs

Adrenaline, is a hormone that plays a crucial role in a dog’s "fight or flight" response. When a dog is excited, scared, or in a high-stress situation—such as during a chase, a fight, or even a vet visit—its body releases adrenaline. This surge increases heart rate, boosts energy, and temporarily dulls pain sensations.

Because of this, dogs may continue running or playing despite an injury, only showing signs of pain once they calm down and the adrenaline wears off. This natural response can sometimes make it difficult for owners to recognise when their dog is hurt.

If your dog has had an intense or stressful experience, keep a close eye on them afterward. Look for limping, licking a specific area, or unusual behaviour, as these could be delayed signs of pain. When in doubt, a vet check-up is always a good idea!

Have you ever noticed this with your dog? 🐶💙

If you have, hydrotherapy is a fantastic way to alleviate pain and pressure on their muscles and joints (after being checked over by a vet!) 💦
