How stressful do you find ? Cats especially can find this time of year incredibly stressful, one of the best things you can do is make sure they have all of their needs met.
Cats are very resource focused - food, water, beds, toilets and affection are all high priority resources and you should make sure that each of these resources are spread around the home and are adequate for the amount of cats in the household.

I had the pleasure of helping with a set of new arrivals for Masons' Cavies
Basic health checks in advance of their vet visit, nail trims, dematts and bath times for 18 new guinea-pigs!!
This beautiful little girl is named after a famous singer... can you guess who...??

Bracycephalic - short faced breeds.
Pugs, French bulldogs, Persian cats and typically dwarf breeds of rabbits to name a few.
These animals come with substantial health problems from birth which relate to their confirmation. The most obvious being their breathing but they can also have problems with their joints, spine, skin, ears, eyes...
Make sure you have done your research before falling in love with that wrinkled little face!

A pet is for life, not just for Christmas. Careful consideration should be put into getting any pet at any time of year.
Can you look after and afford all of the time, effort and expenses (including potential medical bills) that come with pet ownership?

Age is not a disease although sometimes is can hide disease.
Just like humans, animals are more likely to suffer with medical problems as they get older. Make sure your senior pet get regular check ups and don't ignore small changes in behaviour just because 'they're getting older'

It's important to remember that animals have natural instincts, but these don't always align with what we as humans desire.
Cats hunt and scratch, dogs chase and rag, rodents dig and chew. These behaviours aren't ideal in the human world but can cause frustration if animals aren't allowed to fulfill these behaviours.
Get in touch if your pet is exhibiting a behaviour you'd rather they didn't and would like help finding a more acceptable outlet.

You can never know everything, that's why specialist's exists in every aspect of life.
If you're struggling with an aspect of your pet's life then many people head to their vets or Google. While vets are a fountain of knowledge they don't always have the time or knowledge to help with behavioural cases. Google on the other hand is a minefield of both good and bad information and isn't always a good place to go for help.

Weight loss is a journey for pets a humans alike and while hitting the gym works for one person, it's all about weight-watchers for another!
Average weight charts for breeds can be misleading as much like humans, pets can vary greatly. Some are dainty while others are broader set.
Follow your vets advice on your pets ideal weight and remember that help is always available to get your companions in tip-top shape!
