Quick reminder and problems with the phone line!

We have moved premises. We're no longer trading from Millbry Hill. You will find us at 75 Coach Road, Sleights. Parking is available in the car park opposite, or the road behind Botham's bakery is quiet and on the same side of the street. If you park in the car park, there is a pedestrian crossing just up the road making it safe to cross.

We've had an issue moving our phone line across. Calls have been diverted to the mobile temporarily but the signal isn't very good here. If you need to get hold of me please email [email protected].

I'm currently booking appointments a week or two ahead, if you're unsure of your next appointment time or date, please drop me a message.

And that's a wrap at Millbry Hill! It feels strange to be leaving the place I've spent so much time for almost 5 years.

I'm tired and have mixed emotions, but I'm looking forward to welcoming you all to the new shop in Sleights.

It's clean and tidy and safe for your dogs, although there's lots left to do as we create the dog boutique alongside the grooming salon.

I want to thank my Mum and Dad - Dan and Corina, for all their hard work this week, Mike and Dave for helping me move, my friends for all the messages of encouragement, and my clients for your support and patience.

If you haven't yet received your next appointment don't panic, I'm still working on them, I'm about two weeks ahead at the moment.

New clients, if you'd like me to pop you on the waiting list please drop me a message.

See you all soon!

We have exciting news to share!

We're moving! 😍🐾

After a couple of months of uncertainty we have signed the lease for our new shop!

From October the 1st 2024 you will find us at 75 Coach Road Sleights. Formerly Capello Hair & Beauty.

The new shop is beautiful and we can't wait to get settled in and continue looking after your dogs.

We will also have a retail section in the new premises, and would love to know what you'd like us to stock for your dogs? Open to all suggestions.

Thank you so much to all our clients who have been so patient with me this summer. I know I've missed phone calls and messages and haven't always been easy to contact, but I appreciate each and every single one of you. Every thank you, word of encouragement, and all the help to actually find a premises has been deeply appreciated.

If you were a dog, what kind would you be?

I definitely have an inner Jack Russell.

I’m small and stubborn, I don’t much like being told what to do.

I’m always up for an adventure, but sitting in front of a fire snuggled in a blanket at the end of the day with my favourite people around me is my idea of a perfect evening.

What kind of dog would you be and why, tell us in the comments

Ticks… UGH!

Before I moved to Yorkshire, I never really found ticks on my dogs, but here they’re EVERYWHERE!

Something to do with the wonderful wildlife we’re so lucky to have on our doorstep.

Ticks are nasty, blood sucking little horrors. And they can carry some pretty nasty diseases.

There are many treatments available to help deter ticks, but sometimes they still manage to grab a hold of your dog and latch on!

If you see or feel a tick on your dog, do you know what to do?

Using a tick remover is a super easy, quick, and safe way to get rid of the unwanted visitors. If you don’t already own one, why not pick one up next time you’re in the salon.

I like to keep a few in handy places.

And if you’re not sure how to use them, we’ll be happy to show you!

What’s your dog’s name?

Tell us…How did you choose their name? Did you just love the name, or was there a story behind the choice?

I have one named after a tractor – Tasker, in honour of another family dog who was also named after a tractor.

Raffie which means “red wolf” because he’s red and wild!

Neva for snow… As she’s small and white.

And Rue who became Rue because her original name didn’t suit her, but Rue just worked.

Share a picture of your dog in the comments and tell us their name story!

Here's a selection of this weeks dogs! If we haven't taken a photo of your dog this week, it's not because we love them any less. They were probably a blur on camera or I was juggling too many jobs 😅 I try my best, but don't profess to be a photographer!

As you can see, every dog we groom is different! We have a few golden oldies in this lineup, a couple of baby dogs who are still learning about grooming, and few who don't like being groomed at all!

We'll share some of their individual stories with you. Each and every one of these dogs needs a different approach. They all have things they do and don't like, will and won't tolerate. They all have different favourite treats and toys.

Some come running into the salon happily, other's have had experiences at grooming salons that make them more wary.

We love each and every one, and try and get to know them as individuals.

Is your dogs picture in this weeks lineup?

One of the best things we introduced into the salon was our toy box.

So many dogs LOVE being able to come in and play with toys. It really helps them relax and settle in.

But we do end up with casualties.

I’m a big fan of recycling, upcycling, and re-using things whenever we can, so we keep an animal hospital.

Here’s Mr Dinosaur, Monkey, Moosey, Mr Fox and Big Purple Duck fresh from the operating theatre and ready to once again do battle with your dogs.

This is a friendly reminder that we will no longer groom any dogs without a signed contract in place. This is emailed through to every new client when they book their first appointment, and can also be found here on our website: https://doggroomerwhitby.co.uk/terms-and-conditions/

Our Contract let's you know how we operate and care for your dogs, and what we need from you as a Pet Guardian. It's designed to keep your dogs safe whilst in our care, and it also protects our business.

We believe that clarity is kindness. When you're choosing a service it's important that you know and agree to the policies the business has put in place, including information around cancellations and refunds.

If you have any questions about our T&C's please drop us a message.

Why Heart Dog?

Because names are important, and I wanted a name that really represented who we are and how we care for your dogs.

Have you heard of the expression “a heart dog?”

A person’s “heart dog” is their soulmate. That dog of a lifetime that gets under your skin, who you form a deep bond and connection with, the one who breaks your heart when they leave, and who you carry in your heart for a lifetime.

Some people will only have one heart dog in a lifetime, some people will have many. For some people every dog they ever own will be a heart dog.

This business came about and was inspired by my own heart dogs, and we understand that every dog is the most special dog to their human families.

Pop a picture of your heart dog in the comments. 🖤

Older dogs are so special!

This beautiful little face belongs to Ted. Ted has always been such a lovely dog to groom, but it's become clear over his last few appointments that the time has come to make a few adjustments for his comfort.

Ted is finding it harder to stand for any length of time, aches and pains are setting in and he's decided he needs to lie down for his groom.

This is fine with us, he deserves to be comfortable during his groom.

After talking with his humans we're giving Ted a shorter haircut than he had when he was younger. This means we can space his appointments further apart meaning less time spent on the grooming table.

Older dogs still need grooming to keep them healthy and comfy, but our expectations of what they can cope with need to adapt as they age.

Comfort takes precedence over a perfect haircut.

Do you have a golden oldie like Ted?

Who was your very first dog?

Mine was a Black Labrador called Pepsy.

I was nine years old and spotted her in the back of a neighbour’s car, she was just under a year old. I fell in love with her on the spot (I think I fell in love with every dog I met on the spot at that age).

Our neighbour told me they were “getting rid of her”, she was a puppy that hadn't sold. I don’t think I ever cycled home so fast to tell my mum the wonderful news!

Luckily for me, I’d worn my parents down with years of nagging to get a dog. They said yes and Pepsy came to live with us.

She was gentle and intelligent, and I adored her for the next ten years.

Tell us in the comments about your first dog, we’d love to hear about them.

I hate goodbyes 🥲

The Heart Dog team just got a little bit smaller...

Just over two years ago I put out an advert for a dog groomer and welcomed Connie to the team, those two years have flown by and now we're saying goodbye, at least for now.

We're really going to miss you, and hope your next chapter brings wonderful things into your life.

I know that our clients will want to join me in wishing you the best, and thanking you for all the love and care and beautiful grooms.🖤
