Does your dog have arthritis? If so keep reading….
How can hydrotherapy benefit dogs with arthritis?
It provides resistance to build muscle without stressing joints. Hydrotherapy allows dogs to exercise in water, which supports their weight and reduces joint stress while providing resistance to build muscle strength. Helping to keep your dog fit and healthy 🐾

When you’re tired of waiting for your brother to finish his hydrotherapy 💦 but also really want a treat 😂
Did you know that long nails can cause a dog’s whole body posture to change? Dogs will shift their weight backwards in order to relieve pressure, which creates stress on the joints and affects the way a dog moves. Their muscles begin to compensate which increases their risk of arthritis, injury and pain. Long nails can get caught on furniture, carpet and clothes causing them to tear.
We have teamed up with Your Dog Groomers to provide a nail trimming clinic based here in our treatment room for those who struggle to trim their dogs nails or have a nervous dog.
Clinic dates Friday 19th April from 12pm

8 month old Buddy had his 8th session today and he did not want to leave, he is having hydrotherapy with us for pre surgery rehab before his total hip replacement in September.
His owner reports he is sleeping better, more comfortable and he really enjoys coming for hydrotherapy, we have to keep the doors to the treadmill shut before his shower otherwise he gets straight in.
Good job Buddy, keep up the good work.
How cute is Boff 🥰
Boff is a 12 year old Yorkshire Terrier who was referred by The Ralph for hydrotherapy following his diagnosis of elbow dysplasia, Boff also has osteoarthritis in multiple joints.

What is hip dysplasia and how can hydrotherapy help? Hip dysplasia is the commonest orthopaedic condition in dogs. It most frequently affects large rapidly growing dogs, although small dogs and cats can also be affected. The onset of clinical signs is variable, but hip dysplasia is most commonly diagnosed between 6 and 12 months of age. The clinical signs are very variable and include stiffness, exercise intolerance, difficulty getting up or lying down, problems climbing stairs, and gait abnormalities, including limping on one or both back legs. Hydrotherapy, in particular, the underwater treadmill can be a useful tool for strengthening specific muscles and improving gait patterns. The buoyancy of the water provides support to the body which in turn reduces the load on the affected joints whilst exercising the necessary muscles. Aims for rehabilitation Reduce pain Strengthen the affected muscles Improve and maintain soft tissue flexibility Improve and maintain range of movement Enhance gait patterning Please call if you think your dog could benefit from hydrotherapy. 07889902400

Hydrotherapy can be used for prehab and can aid in; 🐶 Helping with weight loss in over weight dogs along side a balanced diet 🐶 increased muscle mass 🐶 Improve joint range of movement 🐶 pain relief 🐶 reduced weight bearing on joints 🐶 reduce swelling 🐶 mental stimulation if on reduced exercise.
Did you know ….. That most pet insurance companies will cover hydrotherapy treatments making it affordable to bring your dog or cat for their sessions.
What is hydrotherapy? Hydrotherapy is a form of exercise that involves the use of water to aid in rehabilitation, conditioning, and relaxation. It can be a useful treatment option for dogs who have suffered an injury, undergone surgery, or have a chronic condition that affects their mobility. The Underwater treadmill involves walking on a treadmill that is submerged in water. The buoyancy of the water reduces the amount of weight that the dog has to support, which can make it easier for them to walk and improve range of motion. Hydrotherapy can be a beneficial treatment option for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cruciate ligament injuries and spinal cord injuries.

How can hydrotherapy help your dog with arthritis? 🐶 Buoyancy from the water reduces the impact on degenerative joints and supports sore or weak joints, which is variable by water height. 🐶Controlled temperature where warmth improves circulation and aids relaxation, reducing muscle and joint pain. 🐶Hydrostatic pressure improves circulation and reduces swelling, aiding the healing process. 🐶 Can aid in gait re education avoiding secondary conditions. Why is exercising in water so beneficial? Exercising on an underwater treadmill takes advantage of certain properties that water possesses. The buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure and resistance created by water all help your pet on their road to recovery. Buoyancy enables those pets who may be weak or unable to weight-bear due to pain, to exercise in a supported environment. In the underwater treadmill, weight-bearing can be reduced by as much as 60%; a huge benefit if weight-bearing is painful. While in the water, hydrostatic pressure is exerted on your pet. This can help reduce pain and inflammation, and improve circulation and lymphatic drainage. Exercising in water also creates resistance. The means muscles have to work harder, which helps your pet build and strengthen weak or wasted muscles. By carefully selecting an appropriate water level, the hydrotherapist can target which muscles are most affected by the water’s resistance
If your pet’s recovering from surgery the gentle and low impact environment allows hydrotherapy to begin from as early as two weeks post-op after suture removal. With buoyancy ensuring less weight is going through a sore or weak limb, they’re more likely to place the limb to the ground, increasing their confidence. Glass panels on the water treadmill allow the opportunity for close observation of gait from all sides. Our water treadmill is of extended length making it comfortable for giant breeds and also allowing plenty of room for our hydrotherapist to work with your dog allowing hands on support to aid correct gait.
Meet Fondip a 7 year old Cane Corso. He is using the water treadmill for hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. How will hydrotherapy using the water treadmill help Fondip? 💦Relief from pain, swelling, and stiffness 💦Increased sensory perception 💦Relaxes muscle tension and spasms 💦Less concussion on the joints 💦Increases and maintains range of motion in joints 💦Increase and maintains muscle strength 💦Improves mobility 💦Encourages correct gait patterns 💦Mental wellbeing (releases endorphins) levels If you think your dog will benefit from hydrotherapy please contact us on 07889902400
Freddie loves coming for his treadmill sessions and he loves his cheese spread to encourage him to walk forward on the treadmill, here he is telling his owner he is not happy that he wasn’t giving him any cheese during his rest time. 🐶💦🧀
💦 What do I need to bring with me? We suggest bringing some of your dogs favourite toys and treats with you to motivate your dog as we want to make each session as positive as possible. We do have some tasty treats here and some squeaky toys and tennis balls if needed. We also recommend bringing a towel and a towelling coat or robe to wear after their session to keep your dogs muscles warm after.
💦 Do I need consent from my vet before hydrotherapy? Yes, as per the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, we only work under veterinary consent. Whether it is for rehabilitation or just fun and fitness, a consent form will need to be completed by your registered veterinary surgeon to ensure your dog is in suitable health and to ensure they have no conditions that may be exasperated by hydrotherapy. We fill out the form and send this to your registered veterinary surgeon.
