Please do not buy. Throw them away if your dog gets one as a gift. Giving rawhide to a dog is never a good idea.

Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas. The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.

The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulfide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.

Now comes the pretty festive colors and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.

Did you know..

Hydrotherapy can be an effective treatment for dogs with arthritis, offering several benefits through low-impact exercise in water. The buoyancy of water helps reduce the strain on joints, making it easier for dogs to move without bearing their full body weight.

Regular hydrotherapy can greatly enhance a dog’s quality of life, especially when combined with other treatments like medications, physical therapy, and dietary changes. Any concerns regarding your dogs health we recommend you always consult with your vet first 🐾

Did you know that long nails can cause a dog’s whole body posture to change? Dogs will shift their weight backwards in order to relieve pressure, which creates stress on the joints and affects the way a dog moves. Their muscles begin to compensate which increases their risk of arthritis, injury and pain. Long nails can get caught on furniture, carpet and clothes causing them to tear.

We have teamed up with Your Dog Groomers to provide a nail trimming clinic based at K9 Water Treadmill - Priory Farm for those who struggle to trim their dogs nails or have a nervous dog.

Clinic dates Friday 19th April from 12pm
Friday 26th April from 12pm

They should be kept short enough so that they do not touch the ground on a flat level surface.
