Photo dump! (Part 1) 🤪❤️🐾

A sunny week so far! 🌞

Super early starts and early finishes Monday and Tuesday, then back to normal yesterday. Brain games, paddling pool fun, cooling vets and cooling mats, sniffing rather than running and LOTS of cuddles!

Thank you to everyone who has allowed us to cancel, or reschedule and change timings - we really appreciate your support 🙌🙏🐾

We’ve had a fun few days so far!

Happy dogs and lovely, safe, summer fun ❤️

Due to the heat yesterday we had the afternoon off and we had a lovely, local chap (Tommy), who very kindly came at short notice to cut our 5 acre field.

He’s done such an amazing job! 🙌❤️

Tommy moved all the pallets/play equipment/trampolines etc, to get the best cut possible and we’re thrilled with the job he’s done!

Thanks so much Tommy 🙏 from EMP Equestrian Paddock Maintenance.

If anyone is interested to have his details please see below. Lovely man to deal with, local small business and very much worth supporting ❤️

Another big welcome to this absolutely beautiful girl ❤️

She’s a 17 month old Golden Retriever and absolutely LOVES kisses, treats and socks! 😂

She was ‘cautiously inquisitive’ when I first went to meet her and it took her a few minutes to decide what she thought of me. She then went full circle and was virtually sitting on me and slobbering me with continuous kisses! (Oh and showing me random socks she was throwing in the air!)🤣🤪❤️

She’s a very good guard dog when she thinks the postman, or others are outside, but it’s all excited inquisitiveness. Miss P will be coming to join our social groups and already knows some of her neighbours dogs who come to Pet Trails, so we’re looking forward to helping her settle and to introduce her to some new friends 🐶🥰

All our social groups are very carefully put together, with each individual dog being selected for that group, to ensure there is balance, all dogs are genuinely happy and they can all make great progress with their social skills, life skills and overall confidence ❤️

Please give a big, bouncy welcome to Mr M, our gorgeous little 15 week old Dachshund ❤️

He’s an absolute pocket rocket, full of energy and fun. He came to his first social group (a very small, carefully created and structured group) this week and he was in awe of his new friends 😍

He absolutely fell in love with our Basset Hound (who we introduce all our puppies to early on, as he’s just amazing with them - he’s so gentle), and he really loved engaging with our little Cavapoo and Boston Terrier.
He had the best time with the other dogs, who are beautifully natured and gave him the sweetest welcome ❤️🙌

We work with so many little Dachshund’s on a training basis, as many of then have come to us with issues with anxiety, reactivity and lack of social skills, so I’m happy this little boy has come to us at a young age, so we can support him and his lovely family to help him grow into a happy, sociable boy who has some lovely friends he grows up with! ❤️

Welcome to the family little man! 🥰🐶

A very big welcome to these two beautiful boys ❤️

They came out for their first walk today (as a solo), for a little bit of bonding and assessing prior to coming to join our social groups and both boys did amazingly well 🙌

They have a little bit of uncertainty about what to do when dogs approach them, but they are two, super-smart cookies and very quickly responded to a little bit of positive reinforcement and guidance and were quickly able to re-focus, remain lovely and calm, take treats and display nice body language and relaxed demeanours.

With careful selection of suitable dogs to place them in groups with, I’m confident these beautiful boys will make great progress and be an important part of the Pet Trails gang, making lots of friends very soon!
Baby steps at their pace is what’s needed. 🙏❤️🐾🐶

Welcome to the family boys 🥰

Tuesday’s pupsters! ❤️

We had a challenging day today, with curve balls thrown at us by the gods, BUT, we still had a great day with our gorgeous gang and the dogs all had an absolute blast playing, exploring, walking and being spoilt rotten, exactly as they should be! ❤️🙌🙏

A big, big thank you to Warren and Sue Hanson @ Just Peachy Florist, who came to our rescue and helped us out and to a random, very lovely lady in Peters Village, who very kindly helped us at the side of the road and to lovely Chanel Missy Chatting, who went knocking on neighbours doors to seek help! ❤️🙌❤️🥰

There are still some truly wonderful people in life and not all superhero’s wear capes! 😎 ###

We introduced a new baby Dachshund to a lovely group of our very gentle dogs and they were so amazing with him and our little baby sausage did so well! 🙌

We welcomed back our Goldie who’s been on holiday and she was super excited to see everyone and gave the BEST cuddles!

We had a beautiful day filled with lots of fun and balanced play!👍

Don’t be a YANKER!…….

When you go on a dog walk, your dog should be enjoying this experience, having fun, being comfortable physically and mentally and being taken the very best care of, to ensure their environment and equipment used to keep them safe, are enhancing their walk experience, not detracting from it.

I’ve seen so many dogs recently being walked on haltis rubbing so high under their eyes, so tightly, the dogs aren’t able to take any pleasure in their walks, they’re just trying desperately to paw at the equipment, causing restriction and discomfort on the most sensitive parts of their body. In addition slip leads, which are choking the dogs to the point it’s clearly causing damage and distress.

We do not use slip leads, choke chains, half choke chains, prong collars, anti bark collars, or any anti pull harnesses. This is for obvious reasons of considering the dogs welfare, happiness, comfortability, physical and emotional wellbeing at all times.

If you struggle with your dog pulling, work on their loose lead walking with a qualified trainer to build the focus on you and the bond between you and your dog. Choose locations for your walk which don’t have lots of traffic and triggers for your dog, so they don’t feel stressed, or over stimulated and want to lunge/pull. Ensure they get enough off lead exercise and mental stimulation, so they’re not highly wired and over excited every time you leave the house. There are a multitude of private fields and safe spaces to hire relatively cheaply for your dogs to run off lead if they don’t have reliable recall, or are not safe off lead.

This article which was provided to me by the wonderful Shay Kelly (thank you again Shay!), is a great and very informative read.

Don’t be a Yanker! ❤️🙏

At first glance a dog’s neck may seem muscular and strong; easily capable of having a leash and collar attached for walking. After all, it’s what we’ve used for the past umpteen years and it’s able…

Sadly there seems to be a rise of the increase of prong collar use 💔

This is both upsetting and disappointing in 2024, when there is so much information available, to understand why these collars should not be used and the potential damage and fallout from them, both physically and emotionally for each dog.

Pet Trails have in our T&C’s that we will NOT work with any clients who use these items of equipment and as a PACT (Professional Association of Canine Trainers) dog trainer in training, it’s actually part of our sign up agreement, that we will never use these types of aversives, on any dog in our care, at any time. However, we would always welcome anyone who wishes to stop using them and to learn new, non-harmful methods and we would fully support and guide them to do so.

Please don’t be misled by trainers who claim they are suitable and do not understand the damage they can cause.

They might seem like a quick fix, but that quick fix can have dangerous and severe consequences and outside of that, if you love your dog, please don’t harm them. Don’t be fooled by someone telling you they cause no harm. They’re banned in various countries (Spain, Switzerland, France, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Victoria in Australia), because of the evidence and proof of the harm they cause (and trust me, the evidence, research and efforts which go into these types of bans are extensive and in depth) and we hope the UK will follow suit shortly to ban them here 🙏

Please be your dogs best advocate ❤️

Protect them from unskilled ‘trainers’, who advise you to put these collars on. They cause significant pain, suffering and harm.

Force free training, investing time and effort into understanding your dogs breed, genetics, needs, enrichment, exercise and mental stimulation requirements, natural behaviours and very importantly, bonding with your dog, so they are listening well to you, helping your dog to build in confidence and decrease their anxiety and fears, so your communication and understanding of one another is strong and clear, is a much kinder and ethical way to adjust your dogs behaviour and support a happy, balanced, safe dog ❤️

Thank you Positively.com for your article 🙏

A big, beautiful welcome to our 5 newbies. 4 little boys, packed with personality and confidence to take on the world 😂 and 1 little girl, who is the cutest, sweetest little munchkin you could ever dream of meeting! 😍

All 5 dogs have such different personalities and levels of social skills and they’ve all done so well in their first few sessions with us, each making progress, slowly at their own pace and with very carefully selected dogs being placed with them, to teach them lovely social manners and to help them settle, make lots of friends and have a wonderful time ❤️

Welcome to the Pet Trails family you gorgeous little things! We’re so delighted to have you all come and join us 🥰
