‼️ HELP SAVE SEDR‼️UPDATE ‼️

It's been 7 days since we launched our campaign and... WOW! ❤️

The response has been beyond our expectations and we'd like to thank every single person that's donated, shared, messaged and commented to help secure a future for SEDR and our beloved dogs. Your words of support and encouragement mean the world to us and gives us even more will to not give up!

In the first 7 days (and at the time of making this update) we have raised £49,289 (This includes donations via GoFundMe and those made offline via Paypal/bank transfer)

A lot has been happening in the background, with different things being planned to help bring us closer to raising enough to secure our dogs futures.

We will provide further updates over the weekend on other ways you can get involved and help, so please keep watching our Facebook, Instagram and TikTok accounts.

Please continue to share our story with your friends, family and social networks to help us find more supporters who believe in our mission. Together, we can give these dogs the safe and loving home they deserve - thank you for being part of this journey!

--------------------------------------------

Firstly, there are no words to describe how truly grateful and how in awe we are at reading all of your comments of encouragement, advise and support, as well as the mind blowing generosity in the donations received.
We are navigating our way through this as best as we can.... we are a team of volunteers with a common goal of saving SEDR and utilizing skills and experience as best as we can!
I just wanted to comment on a couple of things. Firstly, we know the target is huge and we are by no means set on buying this kennels only. We are constantly looking at properties / land and will consider ANY lead that could help us reach our ultimate target of securing a property that belongs to the rescue so we can never be back in this position again. For 16 years we have lacked the long term security that our own premises would provide... and it is exhausting, stressful and the situation is now untenable.
We are looking at business models to see if we could have a kennels with boarding facilities for the public to help generate an income for the rescue dogs and would be ecstatic with a smaller, cheaper property so we could make it our own - we just want a permanent home for our dogs!
If we do not find a property and do not reach a target where even a large deposit can help secure SEDR a home.....we still have 9 sanctuary dogs who will need to go to paid boarding (as a last resort) as these dogs cannot cope in a home.
For the sanctuary dogs, and for all the dogs who will need our help in the future....rest assured we will do everything we can.
Thank you all so much!! xx

‼️ HELP SAVE SEDR ‼️
Here it goes 🥺... This is without doubt the hardest post I’ve ever had to write 💔
For over 16 years, I have dedicated my heart, soul, and life to building a rescue that provides safety, love, and hope to countless abandoned and neglected dogs. But now, everything I’ve worked so hard for is at risk.
The kennels we rent, which have been the heart of our rescue for the past 5 years, is up for sale with planning for warehouses to be built. We need to raise the funds to buy or find a new home for our dogs—or risk losing it all.
We have mutually rented the site for the past 5 years with other rescues…and whilst we will all continue to support each other…we are all working on our own rescues futures individually given the variations in what is needed by each.
I started SEDR in 2009 as a home-run effort, taking in one dog at a time. It’s quickly grown into a lifeline for 1000’s of dogs—many of whom came to us from unimaginable circumstances. We’ve rehomed dogs, provided sanctuary for those who couldn’t cope in traditional homes, and supported struggling families with food, neutering, and foster care. We’ve upheld a strict no-kill policy and been a last resort for dogs who had nowhere else to turn.
Now, those dogs, along with our sanctuary residents, are facing uncertainty.
We want to raise £1.7 million to buy our kennel site, what we now call home, and save this rescue—16 years of hard work, sacrifice, and love—from being lost forever.
We are under no illusion that the funds needed is possible, but we’re not willing to give up without a fight - our dogs, and future dogs, are ALL worth it!
As a single mum running SEDR, I’ve poured everything I have into building this rescue. I’ve never taken a wage, nor would I want to. These dogs have saved me just as much as I’ve saved them. My incredible daughter Skye, our amazing supporters, and the volunteers who’ve stood by us have been my rock. And together, we’ve shown the absolute best of what compassion can achieve.
But right now, I feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and heartbroken. Finding a suitable place to rent feels impossible, and we don’t have funds sitting in the bank to buy somewhere. All I want is to secure a safe and happy life for the dogs who depend on us—the Jaspers, the Tegans, the Bugsys, and the ones who haven’t yet crossed our path.
This is our most desperate hour. If you love dogs, believe in rescue, or know what it’s like to see hope in a dog’s eyes, we need your help.
Every share, donation, or word of support brings us closer to securing a forever home for these dogs.
If you know of a suitable location or have ideas to help us secure the future of SEDR, please reach out. Together, we can protect the dogs who’ve already been through so much and continue to be a lifeline for those in need.
Please join us. Let’s not let these dogs down.

This 🙌

Thank you Sally Gutteridge ❤️

As I always say to our clients, stop thinking of things from a human perspective - you need to ‘think dog’ and to fully understand what your dog is feeling when they feel worried. They need additional support and help to cope in those moments - that’s our job. Our job is not to worry about people watching us and what they might think, or trying to quickly shut our dogs up and make them stop. Our job is to empathise and care about what’s worrying our dogs and to help them.

How can we best advocate for our dogs in these moments? How can we make them feel safe and to help them cope and calm down? That’s our role as their guardians.

Often space is the answer - space and distance from the ‘scary’ thing which is overwhelming them (and of course counter conditioning). Distraction and refocus on approach to the scary trigger and enough space for your dog to not feel overwhelmed and then to help them to recover quickly and feel safe.

ALWAYS consider what is your dogs emotional state in that moment? How can you best support them and be the best guardian possible when they need you? And remember you’re doing a good job every single time you make your dog’s emotions the priority! Stop worrying about what others think! It has no relevance to your life! Only you and your dog matter ❤️🙏 xx

Today I heartily celebrate you dog guardians dealing with canine reactive behaviour!

Because (and bear with me)

Loud reactive behaviour is telling us clearly what our dogs need, how they feel and when they feel it.

These dogs are actually the positive reactors because they can’t be ignored, they are confident to be demanding the space they need.

They are amazing canine communicators in a situation they simply cannot feel safe in.

We are seeing a dog who is not afraid to show us their feelings, because while the situation itself doesn't feel safe, our presence doesn't stop them having a voice.

And

If your dog reacts with fear, tries to run away or hide when something particular comes into their environment I want to commend you for reading this.

The internal reactors, the dogs who freeze, they are less of a problem to us but actually, they are having more of a problem.

They feel helpless, they hide inside and expect to be hurt, with no control over the environment at all.

These dogs are much worse off than the ones who shout and holler for their space, because their fear is often ignored.

Yet the fact that you’re reading this means that your scared friend is being empathised with, and being understood by a person who really wants to help them recover.

They while they might feel helpless, you have got their back!

Very special people understand that reactivity is a coping strategy.

Very special people work day after day to help their dogs feel safe and heard.

Special souls don't give up on dogs with reactivity, don't expect it to be trained out in no time, don't blame the dog and don't give in.

Whether your friend is scared and shouty, shut down and silent or a mixture of both.

I thank you for being their friend.

You're doing something magnificent.

You are amazing!

As we approach 2025, we wanted to firstly thank every, single one of you, for all your unwavering support and the special relationships we’ve created with so many of you, which mean so much to us.

Thank you for trusting us to care for and work with your beautiful dogs and allowing us the opportunity to learn so much from them! ❤️

With each and every dog we work with, the same theory applies every time - we work with the individual dog in front of us. We try to fully understand them, their fears, their needs, their safe zones, their unique personality and what helps them to thrive. If we just see them as dogs as a whole and not as individuals, then that’s where is goes wrong!!
Every dog needs an environment they can thrive and learn in and that comes AFTER we make them feel safe and meet their basic needs ❤️ We don’t need to ‘fix’ our dogs, we need to help them to feel safe! 🙏

For 2025, I aim to grow more as a canine professional and to continue to support making progress in our industry, to raise standards of welfare, training, education, behaviour modification practises and understanding of our canine friends evermore so, whilst using ‘harm free’ techniques, practises and equipment.

So as 2024 comes to an end, thank you for being part of our Pet Trails journey so far and for your continued support 🥰

A very happy New Year to our wonderful team, Ilkem, Lou and Emma and to all our amazing clients, friends and supporters! Have a good one and we hope 2025 brings you all the happiness you deserve! ❤️🎉🙏🐶🐾

Happy Christmas everyone! ❤️🎄💕🐾

Wow! We’ve had a great year! 🙏
It’s been full on, busy, wonderful, emotional, challenging, rewarding, a HUGE amount of learning and professional development (PACT Training and more), we’ve made new friends, taken on new dogs with multiple challenges and successfully integrated them into beautiful, social groups, developing their life skills and for many, helping them to learn how to make friends for the first time 💕
To be part of these dogs individual journeys and to put the work in and see the results is why we do what we do! 🥰

We’ve strengthened our already existing, wonderful relationships with our customers and we’ve self reflected daily, to see what and where we can develop more, to ensure we continue to provide the standards that we’re proud of on a daily basis! 🙌

We’ve welcomed a new member of the team (Emma), who’s done months of training and shadowing and as of last week, has started to run small groups on her own and we’ve pulled together as a team, to work hard to make every day a fun day for your dogs, where they are all in a happy, safe and well structured environment with people who love them ❤️

Thank you to each and every one of our customers, followers and supporters for making it another, very special year! We’re very grateful for you!

Have a wonderful Christmas everyone! Be merry, laugh lots and enjoy 🥂❤️🐾
