A huge shoutout to our incredible Willows crew who laced up their trainers and took on the Berlin Half Marathon last Sunday🏅

Running under sunny skies and soaking up the atmosphere were: Sam Carrington-Brown, Alessandra Mathis, Eve Cannon, Thomas Buckley, Katie Phayer, Ellie Preston, Noella Cooper, and former team members Charlotte Ball and Pip Weston!

We had personal bests smashed, miles filled with smiles, and in true debut style Noella danced and jumped her way around the course! 💃🎉

We're so proud of the whole team for representing Willows with such energy and enthusiasm. 🧡

Three years ago, at the age of 14, Tess faced a tough challenge when she became paralysed in her back legs and underwent spinal surgery. With intensive physiotherapy, her determination shone through, and she regained the ability to walk! 🐾

Now, at an amazing 17 years old, Tess is still enjoying three walks a day, a true inspiration! To celebrate her milestone birthday, our team gifted her a card signed with love and even baked her some delicious ‘pup cakes’. 🧁❤️

We're immensely proud to have had the privilege of supporting her throughout her physiotherapy journey.🥳

Meet Riggs! 👋

Riggs was referred to Will Robinson, our Head of Soft Tissue Surgery, for investigation and management of condition called laryngeal paralysis.

This is an uncommon condition where the nerve supply to part of the voice box is disrupted, making it increasingly hard for the patient to breathe. Riggs presented with the classic signs of laryngeal paralysis and so the decision was made to confirm the diagnosis under a very light plane of anaesthesia.

This showed both sides of Riggs’ larynx were affected, so he was taken to theatre where the left side was held open with two permanent sutures in a procedure known as a ‘laryngeal tieback’. Riggs recovered really well after the surgery and we are pleased to say his breathing is back to normal and he is continuing his recuperation at home. ❤️

Our incredible neurology nurse, Jo Vale, has gone the extra mile for our patients by knitting them cosy jumpers! 🧶💙

After surgery, some patients can struggle to maintain their body temperature. That’s where Jo’s handmade jumpers come in! Not only do they keep our patients warm and comfortable, but they also help them recover safely.

One of our recent patients, Star, who underwent spinal surgery had her temperature drop post-op, so we wrapped her up in one of Jo’s jumpers and it worked wonders in bringing her back to normal!💕

Their hard work, determination, and passion for animal care have truly paid off. We're so proud of their incredible achievement! 🐾👏

Please join us in congratulating them on reaching this fantastic milestone! 💛

Dorota's journey is nothing short of inspiring.

After suffering paralysis due to a disc extrusion, she underwent surgery but sadly lost sensation in her legs. However, that didn’t stop us from giving her the best possible chance at mobility!

With intensive rehabilitation, including weekly dry treadmill sessions, Dorota has made incredible progress - she has now gained the ability to ‘spinal walk’! 💪🐶

Her determination and resilience have stolen our hearts, and we couldn’t be prouder of her progress.

Keep going, Dorota! ❤️

Meet Mossy, who recently stayed with us for 12 nights on our rehabilitation boarding program following spinal surgery with our Neurology team. During her stay, Mossy received comprehensive care, including land-based exercises, laser therapy and hydrotherapy, all designed to aid her recovery. 💧

When Mossy arrived, she was unsteady on her legs, but by the end of her stay, there were significant improvements in her strength, balance, and coordination. Her charming personality won over the entire team, and she earned the affectionate nickname ‘Bossy Mossy’ for her endearing demand for attention. 💖

She also followed a bespoke diet plan tailored to support her weight loss goals alongside expert care from our dedicated nursing team, veterinary physiotherapists, and consulting nurse.

Today is World Spay Day! 🌍

In recognition of this day, we’d like to highlight the significant health benefits of neutering for our pets. 🐾

Neutering (or de-sexing) non-breeding household pets can greatly reduce the risk of serious health issues, such as cancers and infections, while also helping to prevent unwanted behaviours. 🩺💙 By choosing neutering, you’re supporting your pet’s long-term health and well-being.

At Willows, we offer both traditional and laparoscopic (keyhole) spaying options for female dogs. Our expert vets will guide you in choosing the best approach for your pet. 🐕

Celebrate World Spay Day with us and make the responsible choice for your pet’s health and well-being!

Meet miraculous Millie! 🐾

Millie, a 9-year-old Labrador, was brought to Willows after suddenly becoming lethargic and developing an enlarged abdomen. 🐶💔

Upon examination by Primary Care Clinician Noella Cooper, it was clear something serious was happening—Millie’s gums were very pale, and an ultrasound revealed free fluid in her abdomen along with a large mass. A fluid sample confirmed she was bleeding internally due to the mass.

Millie was immediately referred to the capable hands of Specialist Soft Tissue Surgeon Erika Villedieu. A specialist CT scan identified a large mass in Millie’s liver, and thanks to Erika's expertise, surgery was performed that same evening. The mass was completely removed, and Millie made a smooth recovery.

Biopsy results confirmed the mass was a hepatocellular carcinoma—a type of liver cancer - but fortunately, the tumour had been fully removed and showed no signs of spread. 🎉

Three months later, Millie is back to her playful self, thriving and enjoying life to the fullest! 🐾💚

Happy ! Today, we wanted to share a story of when we mend a broken heart. ❤️‍🩹

Meet Frank who is back to loving life following the installation of his pacemaker.

Dachshund Frank was referred with a third-degree atrioventricular (AV) block, which was so severe his heart rate had dropped to only 25 beats per minute compared to the expected rate of around 80 beats per minute. Frank was suffering seizures as a result of poor blood flow to the brain.

Our Cardiology Resident, Sophie Goodrich, explained to Frank's owners that the solution was to implant an emergency pacemaker to restore Frank's normal heart rate.

Surgery on Frank's heart went very well; he recovered perfectly from the procedure and was discharged the following day.

We're so pleased Frank is back to his travels and enjoying life seizure-free.

Let’s celebrate Buzz, the brilliant 3-year-old Cocker Spaniel, whose vision has been almost fully restored thanks to the expertise of our Ophthalmology Team! 👏👀

Buzz was referred to Willows with acute onset blindness caused by a rare condition called immune-mediated panuveitis, which is inflammation of the eye’s uvea. While acute blindness due to this condition is uncommon, Buzz responded well to treatment and regained his sight! 🌟

He was treated with oral immunosuppressants, including steroids and cyclosporine, plus topical anti-inflammatory drops. With rapid diagnosis and careful management, Buzz’s vision was nearly fully restored by his five-week recheck!

We’re so pleased to see Buzz back to his happy, healthy self with his bright, beautiful eyes!
