It’s a hard life for these dogs. Brown one had absolutely nowhere else to sleep, there was only the arm of the sofa available. Poor baby. Times is tough.

Come on ducks, off to your winter home. They weren’t too keen but are now happy in the poly tunnel…. Second poly tunnel to be converted into a winter duck house this week. Ducks sort the soil out brilliantly too. It will be perfectly fertilised and full of lovely nutrients ready for growing veg next summer.

Housing measures to protect poultry & captive birds from are being extended and will be in force across England from 00:01 07 Nov 2022.
This means that, from this time, it is a mandatory requirement for all bird keepers across England to keep their birds housed, or where this is not practical, to take steps to separate them from wild birds.
Keeping your birds undercover away from wild birds is vital to minimise the risk of them becoming infected with from wild birds. But housing alone is not the only solution – it remains essential that you follow strict biosecurity measures to reduce the risk of disease spreading to your birds. Read more:

Ducks! This week we built a new duck house for the Muscovys. Safely opening onto the allotment until they are a bit bigger, they ignored that and jumped through the new gate to play in the water with the big ducks! Also lots of work@in the allotment sorting the beds out for the winter.

Cleared out the last of the carrots, cauliflower and broccoli and beetroots and turnips from a few beds yesterday. Some more tomatoes are finally red, the corn has begun (and is delicious) and the green beans are coming on thick and fast. Another fabulous tea, thank you garden! Next the beds need sorting out and get some fast growers in before the winter comes. We are considering a re-jig in the allotment and might move out some of the raised beds for ground beds, to gain more growing space.

Baby Muscovy! Love a duck!! We went for 6, came home with 12. Duck maths is the same as chicken maths. 😍

The allotment is coming along well. The poly tunnel is more polite this year but the raised beds are the traditional free love situation. Can you see the pumpkins turning orange?
