Two-year-old Riley is all set to take part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch for the very first time this year.
Riley comes from a family who are passionate about wild birds, with his dad growing up visiting the Isle of Mull every year with his parents to spot wildlife. Now, Riley's parents are carrying on the tradition by encouraging his growing love of birds. Mum Asia is making sure to keep their garden feeders well stocked with wild bird seed, fat balls, apples and rolled oats for Riley’s feathered friends.
Asia, who picks up her wild bird feed from Pets at Home, said: “We have a window feeder on our patio doors as Riley loves to sit and watch the birds in the garden, so much so his nursery bought him one too. His favourite birds are robins, and we’re really lucky that we get loads of them in our garden. We want to educate him as he gets older to make sure that the birds are well looked after and get the food they need throughout the year.”

Pets at Home customer Steve, who has been bird watching since he was a schoolboy, has shared his top tips on how he attracts wild birds to his garden.
Steve believes two feeders are perfect to get you started. He recommends having a seed feeder and also a fat ball feeder: “You want a really good seed mix with lots of different seeds to give the birds everything they need – I use a high-quality seed mix from Pets at Home. Some birds will feed directly from it, while ground feeders will pick up the dropped seeds. You also want some high-energy fat ball feeders, which are essential at this time of year as the birds need to get lots of energy in the space of eight hours to get them through the night.”
Steve spotted 16 types of birds in his garden during the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch last year, and he can’t wait to see how many he spots this weekend. He said: “I just love sitting in my chair, with a flask of tea, watching the birds dotting in and out. It’s absolutely brilliant.”

“Nothing is safe!” That’s how owner Hoi describes life with four-month-old border terrier Chester, who is teething.
After losing his first teeth last week, Chester has been chewing on anything and everything in sight. Hoi has tried giving him frozen tea towels and frozen carrots to help soothe his discomfort, but she says the real winner has been the milk bone puppy teething toy from Pets at Home.
Hoi, who shops at our Branksome store, said: “It’s been a challenge trying to navigate Chester on to chew toys instead of my chair, but this milk bone toy has been a game changer. It’s milk flavoured and the perfect size for his little mouth.”

Happy Staffie Rescue shared this adorable picture on Facebook of eight-month-old Lola, with toys donated by our generous customers from Pets at Home Kidderminster.
The rescue recently welcomed volunteers, Pets at Home colleagues, Chloe, Abigayle, Josh and Brett, who delivered crates of donations and spent time caring for the dogs. Happy Staffie Rescue is the community partner of Pets at Home Kidderminster, and benefits from the Lifelines scheme. By using your Pets Club card in-store, at Pets Grooming, Vets for Pets or Companion Care vets, you raise Lifelines for your chosen charity, which can be redeemed by the charity for essential items such as food, toys and bedding.
Jonathan, adoption manager at Happy Staffie Rescue, said: “The partnership is enormous to us. From volunteer days to Lifeline Vouchers, it all helps this little rescue massively. The dogs loved seeing the toys and the great thing is that the amount of toys donated means they will be used by lots of dogs that come - like Rory, Levi and Kenny who have all arrived in the last few days.”

Silver labrador Hugo loves to greet owner Nicky with a different toy when she comes home from work each day.
Nicky adopted one-year-old Hugo from The Labrador Rescue Trust last year, and he has grown from a shy, anxious boy into a confident, playful pup over the past eight months. Now, every evening when Nicky returns home from work, Hugo loves to bring her a toy.
Nicky, who shops at our Weston-Super-Mare store, said: “I love my husband and my job, but nothing compares to coming home to Hugo each day. My husband works from home, so Hugo has company all day, but as soon as he hears the door opening, he greets me with a wagging tail. Then he’s straight to his toy box to pick out a toy to bring to me. His current favourite is his new burger toy from Pets at Home.”

Marigold joined the weight loss programme at Vets4Pets York after gaining weight when she became a temporary house cat after a fire at her home.
Three-legged Marigold’s owners were given a tailored plan from vet nurse Ash, and she’s already lost an impressive 1.5kg. Her owner said: “Marigold was so grumpy before, but the difference in her demeanour and playfulness has been lovely to see. Her first kg has made such a difference to her already, and with the support and advice from Ash I am looking forward to seeing her get to her target.”
Ash, who looks after Marigold’s weight loss programme, said “Marigold is a three-legged cat so weight loss for her was crucial. She's really benefiting already and her progress has been great -she's now able to jump onto the sofa again. We want to celebrate a healthy weight and lifestyle whenever possible and are passionate about supporting owners in taking these steps to improve their pet's well-being.”

A big congratulations to Patrick, Annie and recue dog Tic on the arrival of baby Lily!
The proud new parents have been working hard to make sure that Tic and Lily form the perfect bond.
Patrick said: “We really want Lily and Tic to have a great relationship so have been preparing for a while. Before Lily was born, we trained her not to jump on the bed and got her used to her new spot in the car. We gave Lily’s first Babygro to Tic so she could get familiar with the smell.”
Read more about how Patrick and Lily have been helping Tic to adjust to a new addition in the house in our Pets Magazine which is £2.50, or free to Pets Club members.

Your pet wanted us to give you some inspo for Valentine's this year. 🤭🩷
Customers and colleagues at Pets at Home Chatham were excited to have a surprise visit from Jammy Dodger the Red Tegu.
Jammy Dodger visited our pet care centre with owner Jay from RDJ Reptiles ltd Business Page to pick out a brand-new harness for upcoming events. Jay runs educational reptile welfare sessions at schools and events, helping people to learn how to handle, feed and care for reptiles properly.
Jay said: “Our welfare talks are all about clearing up common misconceptions about reptiles and teaching people how to care for them responsibly. Jammy Dodger needs a harness to wear to our events, so we popped into Pets at Home to pick up a new one. Everyone dropped what they were doing to come and say hello – it was a really lovely moment.”

Matilda and Teddy haven't been able to get out on their usual long walks, so owner Sophie has been relying on puzzle toys from Pets at Home to help keep them entertained.
After an injury to her hand caused a hospital stay, Sophie has relied on friends and family to help with dog walks while she recovers. Using their daily food allowance, she's also turned to her collection of snuffle mats, puzzle toys and Kongs to keep two-year-old Matilda and one-year-old Teddy from becoming bored.
Sophie, who shops at Pets at Home Doncaster, said: “Matilda and Teddy are both working breeds so as well as walks, it’s important they work their brains too. When I came home from hospital, I felt so guilty because I couldn’t take them on their usual long walks or play tug of war with them, so I made sure to give them extra enrichment to keep their brains busy. Matilda’s favourite is a Kong and Teddy loves a snuffle mat, but I make sure to have different ones each day so they don’t get bored.”

Four-month-old Noelle loves snow – as long as it’s on the other side of the window.
Owner Charlie opens the curtains so the kitten can enjoy watching the snow from the comfort of her warm home. Charlie shops at our Milton Keynes pet care centre and makes sure she's picked up plenty of activities to keep Noelle busy indoors.
Charlie said: “Noelle has been outside in the snow once, and she wasn’t impressed. She much prefers to be sleeping in her favourite spot under the radiator. When she’s not sleeping, she’s got plenty of activities to keep her from getting bored inside; like scratch pads, toys and a good old cardboard box.”
