Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to remind all our wonderful customers that we require up-to-date vaccination records to be provided before we accept dogs for boarding. In order for your dog to board with us, they will need to be vaccinated against;
- Canine Parvovirus
- Canine Distemper
- Infectious Canine Hepatitis (Adenovirus)
- Leptospirosis
If your dog is not vaccinated, we will need to see an up-to-date certificate of Titre test.
These are usually covered by your dogs’ regular annual boosters (DHP / DHPPi and L4 / L2), if you’re unsure feel free to contact us or check with your vet.

While not a requirement, Kennel Cough vaccinations are recommended but be aware that we cannot accept a dog within 72hrs of receiving the Kennel Cough vaccine.

Failure to provide correct and up-to-date vaccination records by time of drop off will result in us being unable to accept your dog for boarding.

Many thanks,
Beech Tree Kennels Team.

🤢 Meet the Beastie Boys 🤢

Take a look at this picture; it's only half the harvest from one dog today 🤢. You'll practically see every stage of the tick life cycle. Groomers, brace yourselves; it's like a Level 2 and Level 3 exam question come to life 😂

Ticks are like those uninvited guests who never seem to leave, and they're around 365 days a year. But this time of year, it's like they've decided it's festival season 🥳. After walks, make sure to check both your furry friend and yourself. Trust me, ticks aren't just gross; they can make both you and your dog seriously sick, not to mention your dog groomer – cue the groomer swearing!

When a dog comes in with ticks, it's not just about extra time removing them; it means extra laundry and a salon deep clean. So, it's definitely worth investing in tick treatment (Bravecto is the best). Keep your dog and family safe, and your groomer happy. It’s also really important to remove them properly so as not to leave part of the tick remaining, if you aren’t sure then ask me next time you come in with your dog and I’ll give you a crash course on how best to remove them safely.

Crufts!! Who is your favourite so far to win Best In Show? One breed certainly not guaranteed to enter Crufts is in this photo.

If you post a photo of your dog looking or acting great in the comments below then you can win a spa upgrade or enzyme teeth clean for your next appointment. Myself and Beech Tree Kennels staff will choose “Best in Show” on Monday. Alternatively, you can win an upgrade by guessing the breed shown in the photo - some folks will already know, so don’t give the game away!

Sadly we need to remind some users of Beech Tree Paddock of our terms of use.

As you're probably aware the paddock is intended to be a self serve dog exercise field - you simply book online, arrive on time, have fun, clean up after yourself, and leave on time.

This system works for most, but worryingly we've received comments from several regular users that they often pick up after others. Both litter and dog mess. We do make periodic site walks and collect what we can but we don't register users in or out, so picking up after your dog is your responsibility and certainly not the next user. We understand that it's easy to miss, but please do your best to watch for, and pick up your dogs deposits. Bins and poo bags are provided!

Also it appears that someone has accidentally knocked into our sign while arriving/leaving the parking area today. We've taken it down for now and will get it replaced as soon as possible, but please try not to get lost on your next visit!

Just a reminder that when using Beech Tree Paddock, please;
• Pick up after your dog.
• Do not litter, general and dog waste bins are provided.
• Stop your dog from excessive digging and/or chewing.
• Adhere to the timeslot you have booked.
• Leave all gates secured after your session has finished.
• If the car park is occupied when you arrive, please wait outside until the previous user vacates the field.

For bookings and more information on the Beech Tree Paddock, check our website - https://beechtreekennelsdevon.co.uk/Secure-Exercise-Paddock/

🐶 End of British Summer Time (BST) = More Shedding? 🍂

Dogs won’t understand the clocks have gone back an hour, but this weekend, as the clocks change, your dog's coat may start to change too. Surprisingly, this one-hour shift can have an impact.

Why? Hair growth depends on:
- Daylight
- Temperature
- Hormones

Less daylight during winter affects your dog's hormones, heart rate, and daily routine. Heating going on or wood burners being lit means a change in temperature which signals it’s time to shed some coat. Dogs mental health is also impacted by lack of daylight which can have other physiological effects impacting their coat.

What can owners do?
Walk your dog during daylight, ensure a balanced diet (now is definitely the time to top up their mealtimes with omega rich foods and supplements such as salmon oil), and use a massage brush daily to improve coat and skin.

If it gets too much (and you may find lighter and white dogs shed more due to weaker hair structure), then book your dog in for one of our deshed grooms which can significantly reduce the shedding at home. We deal with the fluff so you don’t have to, and as an owner of a yellow lab you will always find me a sympathetic ear for the person that vacuums the house 😂.

Beech Tree Paddock is a secure, private, 2 acre field in which to exercise your dog. Its purely self-serve with online booking and payment. We just ask that users adhere to their timeslots, are polite and friendly with others at the start/end of sessions if back-to-back sessions are booked, and to pick up after your dogs - poo bags and bins are provided!

The paddocks can get quite muddy this time of year, so why not book your dogs in for a bath ready for collection.. 🐾

Lots of clients have come in recently apologising for how dirty their dogs are. Please do not worry! In this weather it’s an absolute given that mud will be around and apologies are not needed 😀. I love the fact your dogs have been having lots of fun and exercise 🦮🐕‍🦺🐾, and one of the first things for any dog booked in, is straight into the bath and to enjoy a lovely shampoo with our gorgeous range of natural and skin friendly products🛁🫧.

One thing I would recommend is to make sure you clean the dog’s feet routinely after your walks - this helps prevent any mats between paw pads (hair grows between pads in between grooms). There are also new cases of Alabama Rot elsewhere in the UK, so good paw hygiene is always a good idea.

Ps. Remember that you can always book your dog in for an express wash, or bath, brush and blowdry either as a local or kennels client.

Photo is of young Master T, showing off how much fun he had walking in the woods 😁.

Alternatively there are dog cologne sprays available to purchase in the kennel reception (please scan the barcode to pay online).

Thank-you to everybody for your continued and new custom. It has been a real pleasure seeing you all in 2022 and hope those that have had a groom in the last 2 months have enjoyed their advent calendars and are looking festive with their bandanas. The salon will re-open fully on the 4th January 2023.

Wishing everybody a peaceful Xmas, and special thoughts for those whose dogs who have gained their angel wings this year, and for those that are poorly 🤗.

Ooooooh…snow 🥶☃️❄️🌨️!! I love snow, and it’s been lovely to see photos of doggy clients having fun out in the white stuff!

It would be great to see a photo of your dog enjoying the snow, feel free to post a photo in the comments. Best photo will win a secret Santa surprise 🎁.

Here are some handy hints after your dog comes inside 👍:

Check for signs of injury and ensure they are warm and comfortable.

Use a warm, moist towel to melt away ice clusters from your dog’s coat, and thoroughly dry them with a hairdryer set on low if they will allow it or towel dry. To prevent matting, brush their coat after accumulated ice has been removed. Don’t try to pull ice balls out of the coat: It will hurt. Matted fur is horrible for dogs.

Check their paws.

Wash your dog’s feet with a warm washcloth and inspect them (you can do both at once). Look for abrasions, injuries, or other abnormalities; press down gently on the pads with your thumb and listen to your dog for signs of discomfort. Also, inspect between the pads.

Don’t let them groom away ice balls, which may contain salt and chemicals—using wax before going out can prevent buildup, but any gathered snow should be washed away.

Reapply balm to his pads to keep them smooth and conditioned.

18/11/2022

If your dog is booked in at the kennels, we offer a full range of grooming services for your dog during their stay. We also can shampoo and blow dry your dog before they come home. Extra services such as nail trims and teeth cleans are also available.

You can book an appointment via our page, or you can telephone 07878230934. If you have any further questions then email me at [email protected]
