Dog training isn't always fast and flash - sometimes it's about turning a loud and chaotic mind into a quiet one.

This is a little snippet from one of our client's training sessions. Previously, Shenzie would lose her mind at someone walking past the garden, and her family having guests in the home was just completely out of the picture.

Being a dog trainer and behaviourist is about educating and teaching people how to understand their dogs, which is why in the video below I am explaining why we are doing what we are doing instead of just giving instructions.

You can't program your dog like a computer. They make mistakes, and you will too. It's all part of the process!

This is a pretty hard pill to swallow, but it needs to be said. Too many people choose big and strong breeds because they think they look cool and offer some sort of security.

The reality is this: if you cannot physically control your dog, you are putting yourselfโ€”and everyone around youโ€”at risk. When a large, strong dog is not properly handled, the consequences can be serious and far-reaching.

These breeds can be incredible companions in the right hands. But big, powerful dogs require strength, experience, consistency, and responsibility. They are not suitable for everyone, and pretending otherwise does a disservice to the dog and to public safety.

Meet Roy ๐Ÿพ

Hannah contacted us as walking Roy had become extremely difficult due to his strength and leash pulling. He tends to weave side to side as well, and occasionally likes to dive at objects in the street ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Roy also needs a little help learning how to greet other dogs appropriately, however we will work on this in later training.

As you can see in the video, it took us a few reps, but we managed to walk past the mud patch without Roy diving in on it, which has made his walks a lot more comfortable for his family, as they no longer get dragged down the street when he finds something interesting ๐Ÿ˜…

Well done Hannah, we are glad to hear Roy is doing great, and we look forward to working with you again in the New year!

It's quite rare, but sometimes ignoring certain behaviours can cause them to subside. When using this method of training, it is important to understand what an Extinction Burst is. Find out in this video!

Meet Glenn ๐Ÿพ

Debbie contacted us as she was no longer enjoying walks with Glenn due to his leash pulling and over excitment towards other dogs. He also had issues when people knocked at the front door, or came into the home.

Over the last couple of weeks, Debbie and Glenn have made amazing progress and today we had a training session with one of our helper dogs (Rosie). We taught Debbie how to manage and train Glenn so that he can walk nicely past, or with, another dog.

Well done Debbie! You've put in a lot of work and we can't wait to hear of Glenn's progress over the coming weeks! ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿพ

If you want real results, you need to be consistent with your dog's lifestyle. What behaviours you allow and don't allow is important, and everyone must follow the same set of rules.
