Tyler has recently adopted Smokey from a shelter and has come to us as Smokey has a number of behaviour issues.

Smokey is around 4 years old and to say he has had a rough start to life would be an understatement! He has been passed around piller to post, never really having a place to call home until now.

Smokey is highly reactive towards other dogs and unfortunately, the shelter he was at did him no favours by rehoming him numerous times to homes that already had other dogs! Yep...they rehomed a dog reactive dog ( reactivity including aggressive behaviour) to a couple of homes that already had dogs...what could possibly go wrong? ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

When Tyler informed the shelter that he has plans to train Smokey, they told him 'nothing can be done' , ' this is just how he is', 'realistically Smokey isn't going to improve'.

Well, it's time for us to prove Brysons Animal Shelter wrong!

All dogs can be helped, trained and rehabilitated when you have the right trainer and a dog owner who is dedicated!

Smokey has already come along leaps and bounds in our sessions, and he is set to make a huge turn around. We will be uploading progress videos in the coming weeks ๐Ÿพ

If you have sent us an enquiry via our website/contact page, please double check your email address before submitting.

We have received lots of enquiries over the past couple of weeks, but there are a few people we have not been able to reply to as they have mis typed their email address.

If the following people could drop us a message or email that would be great!

We have a couple of clients who have Cane Corso's and a potential ban has been very concerning.

As mentioned in this interview, this breed is not on the dangerous dog list, which means there is very little chance they will be banned.

Big well done to the 2 gentleman and dog in this interview. They conducted themselves very well and we able to get across some very important points!

We love receiving messages like this from our clients. Helping people and their dogs is at the heart of what we do ๐Ÿ’–

Pixie is often highly reactive towards other dogs ( and sometimes people ). We had our first session yesterday, in which we did some leash work as well as some basic management techniques. We will have a socialisation session in a couple of weeks...but it's wonderful to hear that things are coming along so well!

If you also have a reactive dog...please get in touch! Even the most severe cases of reactivity can be rehabilitated...you just need to get started ๐Ÿถ

Thank you for the great review, Michelle! We look forward to seeing how Rocco comes along in his training :)

Dogs fighting at home ๐Ÿ“ข

One of the most common issues people experience when they have more than one dog is inter-dog aggression. This is when dogs that live together don't get along, and often have scraps or fights.

The quicker you get help for this issue, the easier it is to resolve.

This is also not something you should tackle alone. Get professional help, because this issue can be quite complex, and if you get it wrong you could end up with a hefty vet bill or someone in hospital because they got caught in the cross fire!

If you have inter-dog aggression, please get in touch for help now. It takes A LOT of work to resolve this issue when it becomes severe which is why many people give up and get rid of one dog - because they left the issue too long and didn't have the time needed to resolve.

The peace of co-existence shown below is possible, but you need to tackle the issue head on with the right professional.

Drop us a message, or email:

Solving food aggression can be difficult! But did you know many people cause their dogs to develop this issue without realising it?

Some people will constantly take their dog's food away from them when they are eating. They think that by doing so, they are teaching their dog to be OK with someone handling or taking their food away.

This actually has the opposite effect! โŒ๏ธ

This causes the dog to resource guard because they are expecting someone to take their food away, as they have experienced it many times before.

A dog should be relaxed when eating, not anxious because they are anticipating that you will take their food off them.

Imagine how you would feel if someone kept taking your food away while you were eating. You'd be pretty miffed about it too!

Allow your dog to eat in peace. ๐Ÿฒ

If your dog already suffers from food aggression, get in touch! We'd love to help you!

Meet Nala and Benji ๐Ÿพ

Beth and Josh contacted us for help, as life was a little difficult with the issues both dogs were displaying . Their issues included:

- Nala resource guarding
- Leash pulling
- Both dogs fighting in the home
- Reactivity towards other dogs
- Reactive to noises from outside (including the doorbell)
- Benji lack of recall due to prey drive

We are proud to say that with our help, and Beth and Josh's hard work...these issues have been resolved!

Both dogs were very responsive to training, which meant that in the grand scheme of things they actually had a fast turn around!

Below is a video of the reactive behaviour we helped them with ๐Ÿพ

We are saddened to hear the news of the sudden passing of Dumbo, one of our family dogs ๐Ÿ’”

Mandy rescued Dumbo nearly a decade ago, and although he lived a happy life, we all wish he had more time with us ๐Ÿพ

We looked after Dumbo for 2 weeks while Mandy went on holiday. Within that time we took him camping with Rosie.

Here's a little video of them playing ๐Ÿ’–

Aggression is not a behaviour you should tackle alone. If your dog displays aggression you should get professional help, because if you get it wrong...bites can have consequences ๐Ÿพ

Meet Archie!

Archie has been in the Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter since August and has not recieved a single application ๐Ÿ˜ญ

He's a lovely boy with a lot of love to give!

He's 8 years old, but please do not let that put you off him! I would have him in a heartbeat, but I have Rosie, and Archie is looking for a home where he can be the only dog.

Please do not be put off adopting a sight hound!

Many people think they need a lot of exercise, however most of them are happy with 1or 2 walks a day (depending on their energy levels and age) as long as they get a nice run! They run fast, but enjoy lieing on a soft bed all day napping ๐Ÿ˜ด

Think about giving a dog a forever home this Christmas ๐ŸŽ„

Here is a link for Archie's profile. Please Read before applying.

As for the other animal weโ€™d like to highlight on national adoption day, meet Archie, an 8 year old lurcher who has been with us since August.

Despite a couple of appeals now, Archie still somehow hasnโ€™t had a single application form โ˜น.

We think this is because lurchers and greyhounds tend to be misunderstood. People tend to see these dogs as ones with boundless energy and ones that need constant exercise. When in reality, this couldnโ€™t be further from the truth! Greyhounds and Lurchers are more than happy to snooze on the sofa for hours at a time and donโ€™t require as much exercise as other breeds.

This doesnโ€™t mean that they donโ€™t enjoy adventures, they are also more than happy to go on longer walks, but it just means that they are relatively low maintenance.

Archie himself is a very affectionate boy who charms everybody he meets, weโ€™re sure thereโ€™ll be some people in the comments who can vouch for him!

If youโ€™re considering rescuing a dog, we urge you to consider Archie.

Read more and apply today here: https://buff.ly/4fCtkHB

Once again, if youโ€™re not interested in adopting Archie, you can still do your bit by sharing this post so as many people see him as possible!

The Terrible 'Teens' ๐Ÿšจ

We often come across owners who have just about come to their wits end due to their dog's behaviour !

' They were great when they were a puppy ', is something we hear from around 90% of owners who have raised a dog from puppy hood. ๐Ÿถ

The truth is, adolesce is hard. It can start as early as 6 months, and even the best trained puppies can turn into dogs who no longer listen and fall into problem behaviours.

This is not the time to take the training wheels off! And it certainly is not the time to sit back because the dog has worn you out. ๐Ÿ˜ด

You must put as much effort into your dog's training in adolesce as you did puppy hood. You need to adjust it a little , but you still need to put effort in.

Putting effort in now will ensure certain behaviours do not get out of hand in the future ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

Safety Tip | Please Read ๐Ÿšจ โ˜ƒ๏ธ

We are approaching the most wonderful time of the year, which means many shops bring out these Christmas themed treats. Many people buy these not realising the harm they pose on their beloved pet ๐Ÿพ

Although these treats look harmless and may be enjoyed by your dog, they are not worth the damage that is caused on their health and wellbeing.

There have been documented cases of dogs with pieces of rawhide lodged in their windpipe, stomach, or intestines, creating choking hazards and an intestinal blockage, gastrointestinal distress, such as vomiting or diarrhea, can occur if rawhide irritates the digestive tract . Since rawhide is a byproduct of leather, some items pose a significant challenge to a dogโ€™s digestive system when it comes to breaking down.

During the manufacturing process, rawhide is often soaked in a cocktail of chemicals to preserve it and enhance its flavor. These chemicals can include formaldehyde or chromium salts, hydrogen peroxide and bleach, which poses risks to adult dogs and young puppies alike.

Now we know Christmas themed treats look nice, but realisically...your dog would much rather have a piece of chicken or fish, and they are significantly healthier for them than these rawhide treats!

Do what is right for your dog by acting in their best interests. Ditch rawhide treats this Christmas ๐ŸŽ„
