As summer finally arrives in the UK, it's crucial to take the right steps to ensure your pup's safety, happiness, and health in the warmer temperatures! ☀️🐾🐕 Our vet-informed recommendations are:

☀️ Adjust your dog's walking schedule to cooler times of the day, such as early morning or evening.

☀️Consider your dog's age and overall health in warmer temperatures. Even temperatures as low as 20 degrees can pose a significant risk to elderly dogs or those in poor health, and extreme caution should be exercised with all dogs in temperatures of 24 degrees or above (with walks best avoided!)

☀️Ensure your dog always has access to a cool, shady spot and plenty of water.

☀️Keep your dog out of direct sunlight where you can. Use pet-safe sun cream on exposed parts of your dog’s skin, like the tips of their ears and nose. Ask your vet for more advice if needed.

☀️Stay vigilant for signs of heat stroke—excessive panting, restlessness or agitation, excessive drooling, vomiting or diarrhoea, red gums or tongue, and increased heart rate are all signs of overheating. As a precaution, familiarise yourself with cooling first aid steps and seek veterinary advice as soon as possible if you suspect your dog may have heatstroke.
