Those who know me know I used to be an army dog trainer. I learned two things while I was in the army working with dogs, both are still a daily part of my life.

First: you always sort your dog out before you sort yourself out.

Are they thirsty or hungry? Do they need anything at this point? Every day without fail, I follow this rule that I learned so many years ago. Dogs’ can’t just fill up a water bowl, they can’t stop a griping hunger in their stomach on their own, but we can. So I choose to meet their needs before I work on my own, and I always will.

Second: you always move at the slowest man’s pace.

This lesson taught me everything about living with older, slower dogs. As dogs get older, they run less. Older dogs sniff more. They sniff everything. Senior dogs might be stiff and achy and need to cover less ground, but they cover that ground at a slower pace.

Please consider their needs and go at their pace.

It’s not fair to leave them behind or pull them along.

We are devastated and filled with complete greif tonight at the news that one of my first ever clients

Yaya has unfortunately crossed the rainbow bridge tonight 🌈

Yaya is more than a client to us he is part of the family, no one else but our family has walked him for many years and we’ve come very close to his owners in this time and we can’t even comprehend not seeing him again.

From rabbit chasing and going off his own adventures, tonight Yaya, ya, yazee, our beautiful lunatic you are free to run as fast as you want and stare at as many tennis balls in those heavenly waters and make sure you say a big hi to your old pal Jake.

We closed our doors this year but we did not stop walking you because you are so special to us Yaya and we will never forget you ❤️❤️❤️❤️

‘It’s important to know where to start with puppies, a brand new addition in our home, who hopefully, will remain there for the rest of their lives. Knowing the right services to help you out is always the first place to start, before you even start. An educated owner is always the best type of owner to set their pup up for success, I provided a dog support service designed to help owners who are struggling with their dogs, or may be struggling in their own lives and need extra support for their dogs and themselves. I made this service on the back of my dog walking service, where I seen that people needed so much more than just a dog walker, some owners needed another person who knew just that little bit more about dogs to show them how to get the best out of their relationships with their dogs…..but if you don’t have that where you are, I’m writing this book to make sure every owner has an up to date handbook of what not to do, what you probably shouldn’t do, what I definitely would not recommend but hopefully putting a whole lighter feel on this whole owning a dog thing’ - Confessions of a Dog Walker - The pre puppy workout - J.E.Milne

As the leaves start to fall and the cozy vibes of autumn set in, it's the perfect time to treat our dogs with something special. I'm thrilled to share with you an exclusive Autumn Lickymat recipe that is both nutritious and delightful for our dogs.

Raw Beef and Autumn Vegetables Delight

Ingredients:

500 grams ground beef
1 teaspoon h**p powder (optional but great for added health benefits!)
1 heap tablespoon cooked or raw baby peas
1 cooked or raw carrot, chopped
½ teaspoon fresh chopped parsley (for that breath-freshening touch!)
Directions:

In a bowl, combine ground beef with h**p powder. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also sprinkle in some turmeric for an extra health kick!

Blend well and spread this meaty mixture onto a Lickymat.

Gently press some of the mixture into the mat's surface. This ensures a little extra treat at the end of their licking session!

Scatter baby peas and carrot bits over the surface.

Finish off with a sprinkle of fresh parsley to keep that doggie breath fresh!

Halloween is around the corner, and just as some decorations might've once startled us, our dogs can feel the same way. Enter the Confidence Box game!

How It Plays Out:

🐾 Box It Up: Grab a box or laundry basket.

🐾 Fill with Safe Objects: Think plastic bottles, metal spoons, or crumpled newspaper. Like a mini haunted house for them to explore!

🐾 Hide Some Treats: Among the objects, sprinkle their fave treats or daily food.

🐾 Watch & Learn: Some hesitation? All part of the game. Every reaction offers insight into their feelings.

Over time, as they play, they'll learn new noises and surprises often lead to delightful treats. It’s all about helping them build confidence in fun and familiar surroundings.

Tip: If they're a bit shy, let them start with one object. Just like us testing the waters before a chilly swim, they'll warm up!

As we ready ourselves for Halloween, let's help our dogs do the same. It's more than adjusting to the time of year—it's about making sure they feel confident and cared for in the midst of the spooks. 🐾

10 years of service
I’ve never really asked for my clients reviews as I see most of them so much they feel like friends now but I’m crying at all the kind words.

I’m not gone though, everyone needs to keep an eye out next year for my new book ‘Confessions of a dog walker’ where I will be revealing all about my time as a dog walker and all of the drama of trying to break into the canine world and how I battled with mental health, financial abuse, pregnancy and the pandemic.
