Great family dog

Their chill temperament makes them great with other pets and children. They also love being part of a pack and thrive on being a member of the family. In fact, they have a keen instinct to protect and take care of their people. Obedient and adaptable, the Lab is perfect for an active family.

Do Labradors bark a lot?

The answer to the question “do Labrador Retrievers bark a lot?” is an emphatic no. Generally speaking, Labrador Retrievers aren't an especially “barky” breed of dog. Labs were bred to be gentle, easily socialized dogs. With the right training and reinforcement, Labrador Retriever barking is not a big issue.

Are Labrador easy to train?

The Labrador Retriever is known for its trainability. Labs are highly motivated dogs, which makes them one of the easiest breeds to teach. Owning a dog can help you stay fit and active. Compared to non-dog owners, people with a dog get around 2 hours of moderate exercise a week just by walking them.

What is the life span of a Labrador?

The life span for all labs is about 12 years, while the median age for chocolate labs was 10.7. Overall, Labrador retrievers are still one of the longest-living dog breeds, reported another recent study for National Geographic.

At what age will my Labrador calm down?

Labs don't start “settling” down until sometime between two and four years of age. A few labradors are quiet and calm from early puppyhood onward, and a few others are bouncing puppy maniacs until well into old age. You can expect them to be fully matured between two and four years of age.

What is better a girl or boy Labrador?

Personality. Both male and female Labs are loyal, gentle, kind, and intelligent. Of the few differences in the sexes, males are usually more playful and goofier, more attention-seeking, and more social with people and other pets. Some males may have a higher drive to please their owners.

We love our beautiful Lucy!

Can Labradors be left alone for 8 hours?

Most well-adjusted adult Labradors can tolerate being left alone for 6 to 8 hours, occasionally. The more time a Labrador spends with “their” people, the happier and more balanced they will become. Ideally, a Labrador should not be left alone for more than 3 to 4 hours at a time.

Are Labradors very smart?

The Labrador Retriever is one of the most intelligent dog breeds. They're the 7th smartest dogs when it comes to obedience and working intelligence. But what makes the Labrador truly smart is their superior retrieving instincts and the ability to adapt to environments and situations with ease.

People asked the other day if a Labrador is a good dog.

In general, Labrador retrievers are excellent family dogs, as long as you keep in mind their need for exercise and training. These are dogs bred to work...Hard work and they love to have jobs to do, particularly retrieving.

What is a dogs purpose?

You might be reminded about the movie or even thinking about Marley & Me...today does seem like a movie kinda day but our Labradors are the most amazing pets we can ever imagine.

Giving our dogs a purpose and training to keep their mind active can help them use these natural traits. There’s obedience, behaviour enrichment, agility, scent training, and so much more, but you don’t have to make your dog an athlete to give them a purpose. A walk that is just for them to sniff or a meal where they need to use their nose to find their food rather than being in a bowl is a great use of their smart brains!

Science or not science?
Colour is not an indication of character.

Some say that yellow Labs are the laziest of the breed (I'm sure there will be many that will disagree), while black Labs are the best hunters (We think they are the best), but none of these claims is supported by science.

Like people, each dog is different, and some breeders develop their stock for its skills in the field, while others are concerned more with conformation to the breed standard. However, none of these differences directly depend on the dog’s colour.

Although we love Black Labradors, they are the best!!!

Puppy training and obedience classes are highly recommended.

These bold, bouncy dogs are so strong and full of energy, so proper training and socialisation are essential. Luckily, with their eager-to-please, intelligent demeanour, training classes can be a joy for dogs and owners alike.

Be prepared for endless energy.

Though they’re famously laid-back, Labrador Retrievers were made to run, swim, and work. Labs that don’t receive sufficient exercise, including at least one long, brisk walk per day, might end up showing destructive behaviours like chewing on objects around the house or playing escape the yard.
