🚨 PLEASE READ & SHARE 🚨

A scam involving pet microchip registrations has come to my attention twice in the past week, so I wanted to make sure you’re all aware of it and know how to protect yourself and your pets.

THE IMPORTANT STUFF:
• DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS in messages claiming your pet’s microchip registration is “out of date.”
• CHECK YOUR ORIGINAL MICROCHIP DOCUMENTS to confirm your details.

Here’s what’s happening:

A company called PetChip is sending out messages that look very convincing, claiming that your pet’s microchip registration needs updating. They include your pet’s details, like the microchip number, and ask for payment of £18, threatening to change the registered owner’s address if you don’t pay.

Key things to do if you receive a message like this:
1. Don’t click on any links – this could compromise your data.
2. Keep your pet’s microchip details safe – have the number stored somewhere secure.
3. Double-check with your vet or contact your microchip company directly if you’re unsure.
4. If you suspect a scam, report it to Trading Standards or Action Fraud.

This scam may be linked to some breeders using third-party companies to store microchip details, so if you’re unsure who holds your pet’s microchip information, check with your vet or the original registration company.

REMEMBER: As far as I’m aware, microchip registrations don’t “expire.” You only need to update your details (e.g., if you move house) directly with your original microchip company.

Stay safe, double-check anything suspicious, and please share this information to help spread the word. Let’s keep our pets protected!
