Join in with a daily schedule of hands-on activities including bottle-feeding kid goats and calves, the Animal Encounter Experience, and duck feeding. As well as regular activities there are lots of friendly animals to meet including donkeys, alpacas, cute chicks, Pygmy goats, Kunekune pigs, cows and many more. Don’t miss the brilliantly bumpy tractor and trailer ride, which is free of charge (ground conditions permitting).

It’s MONDAY MEET & GREET time!

Following on from yesterday with our birthday boy, it’s CHESNEY!

💚Chesney is a Shetland pony, which is a very small breed, but they’re known for their strength & are quite a hardy breed.

🐴Shetland’s life span is between 30 and 35 years, whereas horses are 30 years.

💙Chesney was gifted to Charley when they were both 6 years old, & they’ve been inseparable ever since!

🌾Chesney always knows where he’s going; we don’t put a headcollar on him, he walks himself out into the field, and he brings himself in.

🥕Ches absolutely loves food & tries to steal Pearl’s food when she’s getting fed.

🐴You can usually find Chesney in the stables with Pearl.

”This farm is amazing!!! Cannot speak highly enough of the staff who were so helpful and knowledgeable. There were so many opportunities for the children to interact and engage with the animals and to learn about them. There were quiet areas where you could go with children who get overwhelmed (my children both have autism) - the guinea pig area is one. From the minute we arrived there were staff available at every location to help. The staff were all very engaging with the children and took good care of the animals - they were very positive role models. We were able to park in a disabled bay right by the entrance which meant that we could go back and forth to the car as needed which made the day so much easier. I honestly would give LONGDOWN 10 stars out of 5 if I could. We loved our visit and will 100% be back again. Thank you so much for the most fantastic day."

Next up is Roger and Rodney

Roger is an agouti, sandy and white teddy guinea pig.

Rodney is a brown, red and white Abyssinian guinea pig.

These are our two breeding boars and are the fathers to all of our baby guinea pigs at the farm.

They can both be found in the guinea pig village.

Longdown Farm Facts

What’s your favourite egg, Farmer Bryan likes a fresh goose egg either scrambled or in an omelette.

Goose eggs:
A goose egg weighs about145 Grams like most eggs they area excellent source of protein each goose egg contains about 20 Grams of protein.
Goose eggs have an extremely hard shell.
It takes about 10 minutes to “soft boil” a goose egg.

Duck eggs:

Duck eggs contain more vitamins than most other eggs, a strong taste, because of the large yolk the eggs are ideal for baking.
Duck eggs weigh on average 70-80grams depending on the breed of duck.

Duck eggs contain very high levels of B12 vitamin compared to other types of eggs.

People who allergic to chicken eggs very often can eat duck eggs without any side effects.

Chicken eggs:

Chicken eggs are the most popular egg eaten in the Uk in fact we consume over 12 billion chicken eggs each year.
There is no difference in nutritional values in white or brown shelled eggs, likewise there is no difference in nutritional value if a yolk is orange or pale coloured.
