We all know how incredibly difficult it is to say goodbye to our dearest, beloved animal companions. There are no words as they pass over that rainbow 🌈
But as Winnie the Pooh says ‘How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard’ 🥰
So it makes it very special when a client is suffering from loss that they take the time to send us a thank you card.❤️
Dear Mr Mellish recently lost his gorgeous Monty so we simply wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to him too 🙏 🤗

We wanted to thank all the lovely patients and clients who very kindly allowed us to film a few pet care videos yesterday whilst undertaking routine health checks and treatments.
These little videos will shared over the next few months to help clients understand various health issues.
Thank you to everyone involved, we are so grateful 🙏

We thought you might like to see our lovely student nurse, Sian who recently did a talk to young children, at a local school.

We had wonderful feedback from the school, who wrote a kind 'thank you' saying that Sian was amazing.
The children were so gripped and asked excellent questions which Sian was able to answer brilliantly. They advised that the props Sian took along were also wonderful at facilitating questions, and that the children truly loved the opportunity.

This is something we love doing at Seadown and we are happy to attend schools for talks like this, when availability permits.

Educating the young, be they vets and nurses in waiting or simply learning about the importance of animal welfare, is so important.
Thank you.

MEET THE SEADOWNER:

Today’s wonderful Seadowner is our lovely Laura. Laura Isaac, RVN-Head Nurse

Laura always dreamt of becoming a Veterinary Nurse from as young as she can remember and after school she completed a National Diploma in Animal Management at Sparsholt College. In 2003, she qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) and dear Laura has worked at Seadown ever since!

Laura was Deputy Head Nurse for several years prior to becoming Head Nurse a few years ago. She tells us that she feels incredibly lucky to work with such a great team, who all adore animals and truly want the best for them and our Seadown clients. But we also feel very lucky to work with her.❤️

Laura thoroughly enjoys the challenges and variety that her role at Seadown offers, from managing the large team of 24 nurses and patient care assistants to working in the various clinical areas. Most recently Laura has started running nurse clinics at our Seadown Totton surgery; for procedures such as post op checks, dematting, claw clipping, weight and mobility management, blood pressure checks and much more. This means nurse clinics are now are available at all three branches; Hythe, Lymington and now Totton. 👏

Like many of the Seadown staff, Laura has rescued a few stray cats over the years! She owns two cats, Sonic and more recently Tilly, who she found as a tiny kitten trapped in some brambles in the middle of the New Forest!🐾🐾

When she is not working Laura enjoys time with her friends and family, dog walking and being around horses, on which she has previously enjoyed many seasons competing in British Eventing competitions. Laura has two young daughters who equally love all animals and are now asking for a pony of their own!!!

A SPECIAL CATARACT SURGERY STORY:
It’s not often we have a client telling a story of their experience with us, but here is something really rather special. ❤️
Huge thanks to our lovely client and we do hope you find it interesting.

“Rosie came to us at around 6 months of age, from owners who just hadn’t realised how much they were taking on.
It’s easy to forget to do research when buying a puppy but it’s very important to take advice and meet the Mum and Dad too, if possible. However, no research had been done and as a result, Rosie has a number of genetic problems, one of which sadly led to the development of early onset cataracts.
By the age of 4 years we realised that Rosie was starting to develop cataracts in both eyes. These progressed slowly, and she adapted to her reducing vision but she lost her spark. She was no longer keen to go for her walks, she didn’t play with our other dog as she used to.
A few years later, Rosie was blind because of the cataracts and so we decided to have cataract surgery performed. We chose to be referred to Seadown Veterinary Hospital in Hythe, near Southampton for its outstanding reputation for ophthalmology, and for their friendly and approachable service.
The surgery was done in a day, and we picked up our little Rosie that same evening. I can’t say that she was a fan of the buster collar, or of the many eye drops that we had to give her over the following weeks, but it was very important that the buster collar stayed on and that the drops went in to give the surgery the best chance to succeed. Luckily, she was very biddable and accepted the situation quickly.

Within a couple of weeks, we began to notice that she seemed a lot more confident, especially when we were out. She stopped barking as much, and started to keep up with us. (Her previous habit was to stop to sniff, and then bark to remind us to call for her - walks could be very slow)🐾🐾

At six weeks post-surgery, we feel like we have our Rosie back. She is so very happy, and we had, I think, forgotten just how much fun our little lady could be. Now we can’t get enough of watching her run, or playing with our Labrador, or just sitting watching the world go by (especially the pigeons in the garden!)👏

Do we have any regrets? Only that in hindsight we should have made the decision to have cataract surgery performed earlier.
The care straight after the surgery is not easy, but I have no doubt that for us it has all been very worth-while.
Our thanks to Denise Moore and all the staff at Seadown, who have given our Rosie her sight and her spark back.”🙏

Please see the photos below, which from left to right, show Rosie with obvious clouding in both eyes before surgery, and after surgery when the cloudy lenses have been removed and Rosie’s eyes are clear. Then two current photos showing beloved Rosie now living her best life.

Today is 💚
It's a special day to celebrate our amazing wildlife but also to remember to care and nurture them.
Here at Seadown we have been taking care of all animals for over 100 years - it's a milestone for any veterinary practice and we are so proud and grateful, to have served and cared for all the animals of the New Forest over that time.
In this wonderful photo you see our very own lovely vet Arianna (Ari) treating a hedgehog.
Wishing everyone a wonderful 🙏
