🐾 Help! My puppy keeps chasing my cat! 🐾

Many dogs live happily alongside cats 🐶🐱. However, some breeds have instincts to chase and grab small furry things, which can lead to trouble.

A cat’s instincts are to hiss and either fight or run, which can wind up a dog even more 🐕. Play between puppies and cats may seem innocent but could be practice for hunting and fighting. Once a dog grows, the balance may change, leading to more chasing and grabbing.

🛠️ Management 🛠️

Prevent access to avoid issues. Create dog-free and cat-free areas in the house. Use baby gates to separate them 🚪. Acclimate dogs to cats being boring, and always prevent chasing.

🐕 Training Tips 🐱

1. Use ‘mark the trigger’ to teach alternative behaviors.
2. Reward your dog with treats when they see the cat and look to you.
3. Sessions should be short, just a few minutes at a time.

Provide appropriate outlets for your dog’s instincts:
- Use toys like flirt poles 🎾
- Set up scent trails 🐾
- Use food dispensing toys 🍴

No punishment ❌

Do not punish your dog for approaching or chasing cats. It can make things worse. Instead, prevent situations where you might need to yell.

✨ Conclusion ✨

- Use baby gates to separate pets 🍼
- Teach alternative behaviors 🐾
- Keep dogs busy with walks, training, and puzzle toys 🧩
- Avoid punishment 🚫

Create a harmonious home for your furry friends! 🏡💖

🐾 Help! I'm Worried About My Puppy Getting Lost or Going Missing! 🐾

It’s a common worry—our pups mean the world to us, and the thought of them going missing can be really scary. Here are some tips to help keep your puppy safe and ease your mind! 🐶❤️

1. 🏷️ ID Collar & Tag: Make sure they’re always wearing a collar with an up-to-date ID tag that has your contact details on it.

2. 📲 Microchip Check: Confirm that their microchip is registered under your name and contact info—ask the breeder to double-check it was transferred over.

3. 🚪 Front Door Safety: Use a baby gate or barrier near the door to prevent any sudden dashes outside when it’s opened.

4. 🌳 Garden Check: Go over your garden fencing to make sure there are no gaps or holes. Lock and secure your gate for extra safety.

5. 👀 Garden Supervision: Don’t leave your pup alone in the garden, even for a short time.

6. 🚗 Car Safety: Always strap them in while in the car. Clip their lead on before unclipping their seatbelt to avoid any unexpected sprints.

7. 🛠️ Trusted Sitters & Walkers: When choosing pet sitters or walkers, check reviews, ask to speak to current clients, and request proof of insurance. Inspect their vehicle setup to see how your pup will travel.

8. 📍 Attach a Tracker: A GPS tracker or airtag on their collar or harness can be a lifesaver if they do go missing.

9. 🐕 Use a Longline: Until you’ve built a reliable recall, keep your pup on a longline in unsecured areas to avoid any unexpected adventures.

With these precautions, you’ll feel much more confident about your pups safety! 🐾💙

🐾 Help! My Training is Regressing! 🐾

Noticing a backslide in your puppy or dog’s training? Don’t worry—this is totally normal, and there are lots of reasons it might be happening. Here’s what to check and adjust so you can get back on track! 👇

1. 🐕 What Stage of Life Are They In? If your pup is still young or hitting adolescence, big changes in their body and brain can affect their ability to learn and remember. Go back to basics for now, and remember—this phase doesn’t last forever!

2. 😨 Did Something Scare Them? If your dog recently had a fright, they may be more cautious in certain situations, including training. Try stepping back a level and focus on making training a positive experience to rebuild their confidence.

3. 🩺 Could They Be in Pain? Sometimes pain or discomfort can affect your dog’s training abilities. If you’re unsure, a vet check can help rule out any medical issues that could be causing setbacks.

4. 🍗 Are They Motivated? Treats that worked before might not be as exciting now! As puppies grow, they often need a little extra motivation. Try using higher-value treats like chicken, cheese, or something new and tasty to keep their focus.

Remember, training isn’t always a straight line—ups and downs are normal. With patience and small adjustments, you and your pup will get back on track! 🐾💪

🐾 Help! How Do I Achieve Successful Training Sessions with My Puppy? 🐾

Training a puppy can be fun and rewarding if you set yourself up for success! Here are some tips to make each session productive and enjoyable for both you and your pup:

1. 🍗 **Use Tasty Treats**: Motivate your puppy with treats they can’t resist—think chicken, cheese, or hot dog slices! And remember, the more distracting the environment, the tastier the treat should be!

2. 🎾 **Vary Your Rewards**: If your puppy loves both treats and toys, mix it up! Alternate between tasty bites and a quick play session to keep things exciting.

3. ⏰ **Keep It Short**: Puppies have short attention spans! Keep training sessions to 3-5 minutes max so they stay focused and eager to learn.

4. 😊 **Stay Positive**: Training should be fun! If your puppy doesn’t get it right away, don’t get frustrated. Break down the steps to make it simpler, and keep things upbeat.

5. 🌧️ **Know When to Pause**: If your puppy seems distracted, or isn’t in the mood (especially if they’re teething), don’t stress! Sometimes taking a break is the best move. Try again when they’re more engaged.

With patience, positivity, and the right treats, you’ll be helping your puppy build skills and confidence in no time! 🐕💪

🐾 Help! My Puppy Doesn’t Listen to Me! 🐾

If it feels like your puppy is ignoring you, you’re not alone! Just like toddlers, puppies are easily distracted and curious about the world around them, so it’s normal for them not to respond sometimes. Here’s why and what you can do to help! 👇

🌎 **They’re Exploring**: Puppies can get so absorbed in new sights, sounds, or smells that they might not even hear you. They might also feel unsure or even nervous around new things. For example, asking your pup to sit when meeting a new dog is a big ask—they’re probably too focused on the other dog! 🐕👀

🏠 **Different Environments, Different Skills**: Just because your puppy has mastered a cue at home doesn’t mean they’ll be able to do it everywhere else. Practicing and “proofing” their skills in different places takes time. Expect to go back to basics in new environments so they can understand what you want, no matter where they are. 🐾📚

🔄 **Avoid Repeating Cues**: If your puppy doesn’t respond, it’s tempting to say their name or the cue over and over again. But this can turn our voices into background noise for them! Instead, ask or call your puppy once. If they don’t respond, either go get them or move on—it’s okay if they’re not ready to listen every time! 🎶❌

Remember, patience and practice are the keys to helping your puppy grow into a great listener. They’ll get there! 🐶💖

🎆🐾 Helping Your Puppy Through Fireworks Season 🐾🎆

Fireworks season is fast approaching, and it can be a scary time for both puppies and adult dogs. Here are some tips to help prepare your pup and make the experience as comfortable as possible:

1. Play firework sounds: Start playing firework sounds during mealtimes. Begin at a low volume and gradually increase it over time. This helps your pup associate the sound with positive experiences! 🍽️🎶

2. Create a safe space: Provide your pup with a safe retreat, but also allow them to find their own safe space if needed. Don’t try to coax them out—let them come to you when they’re ready. 🏡❤️

3. Drown out the noise: Close all windows and curtains, and turn on the TV to help drown out the sound of fireworks. 📺🔇

4. Stay home: Don’t leave your pup alone during the evenings when fireworks are likely. Your presence can be a great comfort! 🐶❤️

5. Schedule walks early: Get your walks and toilet breaks done before it gets dark. This minimizes the chances of your pup getting spooked outside. 🌅🚶‍♂️

6. Be prepared for accidents: Accidents can happen, and that’s okay! It’s better to have a small setback in toilet training than risk a fright from a sudden firework while they’re outside. 🏠💦

7. Use a lead for toilet breaks: Always take your pup out on a lead during this time, just in case they get spooked and try to bolt. 🦮⚠️

8. Prepare tasty distractions: Have some tasty treats and enrichment activities ready to keep your pup busy during the fireworks. Think licky mats, stuffed Kongs, or snuffle boxes! 🍖🧩

By taking these steps, you can help your furry friend feel more secure and relaxed during fireworks season. Let’s keep our pups safe and calm! 🐾💖

🐾 How Do I Create a Bond with My Puppy? 🐾

Building a strong bond with your puppy is all about creating a safe, fun, and positive environment. Here are some essential tips to help you and your new best friend start off right:

1. 🏠 Prioritize Their Feelings: Focus on how your puppy feels, not just what they do. Make them feel secure by comforting them when they’re worried, giving them a safe space at home, and being with them when they’re anxious.

2. 🍖 Use Positive Reinforcement: Reward your pup with treats, toys, and playtime when they’re doing well. Positive training helps them learn while strengthening your connection!

3. 🎾 Play with Your Puppy: Show your puppy you’re the most fun person around! Play is a fantastic way to bond and helps them build confidence in you as their trusted human.

4. 🚫 Avoid Shouting or Scaring: Never yell at or startle your puppy; it can break trust and make them fearful. Instead, stay calm and patient—they’re learning from you!

5. 🚧 Manage Your Space: If your puppy keeps getting into things they shouldn’t, like exploring the bin or jumping on counters, set up baby gates or barriers. This reduces the need for constant redirection, creating a peaceful environment for you both.

6. 🐶 Allow Choice in Interactions: Give your puppy the freedom to decide if they want to interact with new people, dogs, or objects. Respecting their comfort level builds their trust in you.

By prioritizing their feelings and creating positive experiences, you’re laying the foundation for a strong, trusting bond that’ll last a lifetime! 🐕💖

🎃🐾 Helping Your Pup Through Halloween 🐾🎃

Halloween can be a spooky and overwhelming time for both puppies and adult dogs. With people knocking on the door in scary outfits and lots of commotion outside, it’s important to help your furry friend feel safe and calm. Here are some tips to make Halloween easier for your pup:

- 🕸️ **Avoid Trick or Treat Chaos**: Taking your pup out during trick-or-treat time might be too much for them. Lots of squealing kids in costumes can be overwhelming. Consider taking your dog for a walk earlier and let them relax during the busy evening hours. 💤🐶

- 🍬 **Leave Sweets Out**: If your dog gets anxious when people knock on the door, leave a bowl of treats outside for kids to help themselves. This can minimize the stress of constant doorbell ringing or knocking. 🚪🍭

- 🚧 **Use a Baby Gate**: Keep your dog safe by using a baby gate so they can’t run up to trick-or-treaters or escape through the front door. Let them observe from a safe distance without feeling overwhelmed. 🐕👀

- 👻 **Costume Comfort**: Does your dog need a Halloween outfit? If you’d like them to wear something special, introduce the costume gradually. Make it a positive and fun experience with treats and praise to ensure they’re comfortable wearing it. 🎃👗🐾

- 🎉 **No Forced Interactions**: Don’t force your pup to interact with people in costumes. Let them observe and decide for themselves if they want to say hello. Respect their comfort zone! 🐕💬

By planning ahead, you can make Halloween a fun and stress-free time for both you and your dog! 🐾💖

26/10/2024

🐾 Why Is Your Puppy Crying at Night? 🐾

Is your puppy crying at night and keeping you both awake? It’s a common issue, but understanding why can help ease those nighttime woes for both of you. Here are some reasons why your puppy might be crying at night:

1. New Environment: Puppies have just left their siblings and mother. It can be scary to be alone for the first time. 🥺
2. Social Creatures: Dogs are naturally social and enjoy sleeping with company. Being alone can make them feel insecure. 🐾
3. Too Young to Be Alone: In the wild, dogs don’t start leaving their families until about 6 months. Your puppy is still too young to sleep alone. 🌙

What You Can Do:
- Sleep Nearby: Let your puppy sleep next to you or even with you if needed. This provides comfort and reassurance. 🛏️
- Use a Crate: Place a crate next to your bed where your puppy can see you and feel your presence. You can touch them to reassure them if needed. 🐕
- Night-Time Awareness: You’ll also hear them wake if they need to go to the toilet, making it easier to attend to their needs. 🚽

Important Advice:
Don’t fall into the trap of letting your puppy "cry it out". While they might eventually go quiet, it’s not because they’ve learned to be okay alone. They’ve simply learned that when they’re scared, no one will help them. This can be neurologically damaging and can lead to adult dogs who are more fearful, less trainable, and more anxious. 😔

Going to your puppy when they cry won’t make them cry more. Quite the opposite! Reassuring your puppy when they cry teaches them that you’re there if they need you, building a more confident and secure dog. 💖
