Time and patience are something that you learn when running a botanical method aquarium. You have to have it or at least to learn it because otherwise you won't be able to appreciate and witness nature right before your eyes. The beauty in the petina of leaves, seed pods, or wood is something that you can only experience running an aquarium this way. Wait and watch. Learn and enjoy.

Side by side. Some Red Cherry Shrimp enjoying grazing on the various botanicals in our very own Benthic Zone Substrate. It's made our shallow aquarium look and function so naturally that we are considering adding this to our heavily planted aquarium to see how that will look and function.

I'm very excited to announce that from today, we will be sponsoring the very cool and upcoming ! After being the hobby as a child, he has only been back in the hobby for a few years. It's only been fairly recently that he's dabbling in the botanical method side of our hobby, and his current setup is in this picture. I like to use this term when people start off using botanicals, that people just 'get it' and Brad certainly does. He joins in our Blackwater UK team and fits in perfectly. Aquascaping. It always amuses me when people use the word 'aquascaping' as if it's something completely different from what people have already been doing for decades in the hobby. Landscaping basically means someone arranging something that is pleasing to them or the owners of the land using rocks, plants, structures, etc. So the word Aquascaping means exactly the same, just underwater. So when someone spends a huge amount of money on the latest trending rock or wood and someone else puts sand, leaves, and twigs in a pile in their aquarium, guess what? Both have been aquascaped. I know what one I prefer, and I bet I know what one our fish prefers, too.

Nature. The word 'nature' gets used a lot in the hobby. Most of the time, when it's used, it's very little to do with what is found in nature when it comes to the fish used in our aquariums. If you want to recreate a natural habitat for your livestock, then look to no one else than mother nature. She's been doing this s**t for a lot longer than this hobby, and she creates the perfect inspiration for those hobbyists who want the best for their fish. Do yourself and your fish a favour. Go into nature and look for yourself.
