HaddiPET's Snippets
Today's snippet is about my dog Shansi. Shansi was rescued from a dump site in South Africa in December 2011, estimated to be 6 months old at the time. She was in terrible condition and very nearly dead due to starvation and over 1000 ticks attached all over her body. Her brother, who she was found laying next to, had already succumbed. The call came in the day after her rescue and I went to collect her, not knowing what to expect. She was so malnourished that she was unable to walk or lay down, I had to carry her everywhere and she slowly started regaining stamina after a few weeks of being fed every 3 hours on a diet of toast with pate, chicken and Royal Canin Recovery.
In February 2020 she had to undergo spinal surgery due to severe pain from damage from her past abuse. She came out of surgery completely paralysed but 4 weeks later she started to regain feeling and motion. She attended a gruelling rota of physio, water therapy, lazer therapy, TENS therapy and massage therapy for months following the surgery - and she walked again!
When I moved back to the UK in 2020, she was flown on my flight (with Hattie), while still in recovery. Due to covid lock down looming, I had no choice but to fly her when I did. She is still going relatively strong but her age is getting the better of her and she now requires a buggy but loves her car rides and outings. She is never left at home, instead we make sure to accommodate her with her buggy, even 4x4ing through the forest which often attracts a lot of attention π
