ππ½ This is Dave. Dave is a 2 year old Labrador and is now doing 1-2-1 enrichment dog walks with me.
We are working on some common struggles such as jumping up. Dave is fast learning to focus on me and to wait patiently for food to be delivered to him from my hand (rather than stealing it)!
Dogs don't come pre made to know our language and expectations. We need to teach them what we want them to do.
If you're interested in hiring me to help you figure out some solutions then get in touch through the website. We'll meet you over there πΆ

GO ON THE DOG πΆ
It's warming up and I'm A LOT BIGGER than this little tinker π If the dog is dragging or lays down, that's ok. Give them a moment and choose an appropriate time to move on. It makes for a better relationship between the two of you. Yes it can be frustrating but this is where we work Roth the breath, slow down and practise patience. Misty is in her senior years bless her.
Whatever you resist, persists - so if I want Misty to give in to lead pressure than I need to respect her requests as well. And that's why we have the relationship we do. If you need help building a relationship with your dog, then get in touch.
Does your dog struggle being around other dogs? Perhaps you'd prefer a solo walk over a pack walk?
You're in luck! I have a few spaces left for solo walks. They will get 1-2-1 time with Alex, enrichment, exercise and more! Message for more details πΎπ§

π Hi, I'm Alex and I'm a games based Dog Trainer in Southend-On-Sea, Essex π
ππ½ Solitude is the strength of being alone. Loneliness is the weakness of being alone.
πΎ When lockdown hit us, a lot of people started working from home and lot of people got a dog. A lot of people may have felt alone, so, got a dog. And because a lot of people were around all day, they didn't build value in being away from the dog. This results in a need and a want to be around you and a stress when you are bit around.
πͺπ½ By playing games, building value in a crate or room, you can develop a much healthier relationship with your dog. Building value in solitude will be healthier both mentally and physically. We all know what stress can do to us!

Hi, I'm Alex and I'm a games based dog trainer in Southend-on-Sea, Essex π
π JUMPING UP β¬οΈ
Do you have a dog that likes to jump up? Have you asked yourself why they do this? Is there food on the counter? Does the jumping get reinforced with attention? If this was the case could you understand why the dog would continue to do it. They're not going to understand that sometimes it's okay and sometimes it's not. They're not going to understand that they can only do it to you and not to the counter or the person in the coffee shop, that's got food on the plate..
ππ½ In order for a dog to stop the rehearsal of jumping up, they need to understand that there was more value being down on the floor. Food should get delivered calmly to the ground. We can also look to add in a behaviour (such as a sit to say please).
If a dog has been jumping up for most of their life, they're going to that 'sit' we suddenly want pretty quickly. We need to work on a sit with duration and reinforce the behaviour we want. We need to get the dog thinking and perhaps a jump on cue can be introduced.
If you need help teaching your dog that there is value when all of their feet on the ground, then you can visit www.happyhooch.co.uk for more information or send us a message πΆβοΈ

Building trust with a dog is super important. If you don't have a trust between you, results will be harder. You need to feel comfortable around your dog and your dog does you. You're both learning another language after all.
Remember the riddle me toddler days where you just didn't have a clue what your 2 year old was saying? Doesn't it feel better now you can understand? You've built a relationship, a trust and a mutual understanding for one another's needs. Hhhmmmm...
Your dog doesn't speak the same language as you so communication and clear instruction is key ποΈ

βοΈ CONSIDERATION βοΈ
When you're teaching your dog new tricks, do you consider all aspects of the environment.
For example, if I have a nose to the ground spaniel, I may roll a few pieces of food across the wood floor. It's easy for him to see and he will quickly disengage from that floor and orient back to me. I'm less likely to roll it across the carpet as I don't want him to get stuck in sniffing around, spaniel style. I may use the comfy and warm carpet for static training. Magic hand (catching food that falls between the fingers into the mouth) is a good one for focus and keeps the sniffy spaniel's nose off the ground.
I may also choose the carpet for practising a roll over. The carpet is a much more reasonable choice than a cold wood or tiled floor. You get me?
I've been working really hard and today, I heard dogs barking and didn't react. Not only that, but I've been doing lots of DMT with my handler and I'm slowly but surely building a more confident skill set and learning that good things come out the monkey when I see a dog. My handler loves me and my owner sees that I'm calmer. Just look at my only half wreck rail and happy face!
If you hoomans aren't sure what DMT it, ask Alex! She'll explain. You can catch her on here or at www.happyhooch.co.uk
Peace out βπ½

βοΈ ENRICHMENT βοΈ
- Have you asked yourself why? Rather than STOP βπ½ the behaviour, give them an outlet for the behaviour.
Shredding is a natural canine behaviour. If your dog has a high prey drive or they're bored, they will shred! And they don't care if it's your sofa either. Giving your dog mental stimulation is a healthier way for them to gain enrichment over making bad choices and getting scolded for it. After all, they are only dogs and dogs act on instinct. Teaching them what you want them to do and supervising their activities is a much more beneficial option all round.

Reading a dog's body language can prove tricky and we often mistake it. Fear can be mistaken for excitement and just because a dog's tail is wagging, doesn't mean they are happy. A dog may often put themselves in a situation they feel fearful of as well. I have often gone out with a smile on my face when I have been feeling anxious inside.
There is a misconception that putting the dog in the situation will help them through it. Taking a step back, grounding the dog and building towards the situation is a more better option and will develop a more trusting and precious bond between the two of you.
Isn't that what everyone wants?

π EXPOSURE π Hi, I am Alex and I am a games based Dog Trainer and Pet Sitter in Southend-On-Sea, Essex. - Do you think about the exposure you give your dog? Where do you place all the value? Does your dog see more value in bolting off into the horizon, (Tom and Jerry) style, or, do they see value in hanging around you, waiting for instructions? π My expertise and YOUR hard work, can help you to build a better skill set and develop the dog of your dreams! Mmm hmm, that's right. When we have children, we set rules and boundaries. We teach them to respect these boundaries and when we can trust them to make the right choices, we gradually increase the freedom they are allowed. Why do we not do the same with our dogs? Think about this logically and visit www.happyhooch.co.uk to fill in your contact form today
Hi all, I'm Alex and I'm a games based Dog Trainer and Pet Sitter π I'm working with Cody here and teaching him that if you work hard, you'll get paid. You can see how engaged he is with me and he is enjoying what he is doing. I'm using a technique called "luring" to enable him into position. If you'd like to find out more, visit www.happyhooch.co.uk today βπ½
Hi everybody, I'm Alex and I am a games based Dog Trainer in Southend-on-Sea. Just check out the little happy face of this dog. Sometimes we see dogs with a cute, happy face and assume all is well in their world. However, this dog is really not keen to be around other dogs. We don't want to put our dogs in a position where the βοΈ signs of being ignored and the only thing we notice is when they bite you! Using games to build confidence, trust and optimism is a great way to reshape the mind out of anxiety and into confidence. Visit www.happyhooch.co.uk. If you're interested in our services and we will see you over there. Peace out βπ½ gs
Hi guys, I'm Alex and I'd like to talk about ππ½ Labels! - is your dog stubborn or lazy or awkward? Could it be that they are perhaps fearful, unsure or pessimistic? Any of you suffer with feelings of anxiety, overwhelm or dread? Imagine if your beloved, the person you trusted pushed you into that situation. Would you start to trust them less and feel these emotions more and more? We aaaallll know that to void these feelings we need to do the work. Wouldn't you just love to label yourself and/or your dog as the happy, optimist that's fearful of nothing! Sounds like a dream right? Sounds like a SUPER HERO! I can help you build the skill set to put those dreams into a reality. If you'd like to know more, check out out website ππ½ www.happyhooch.co.uk and submit an enquiry form. You'll need to address it to Alex. βTis The Season To Be Jolly Lyrics. [Verse 1] Deck the halls with boughs of holly. Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la 'Tis the season to be jollyβ¦. Or is it? With Christmas shopping, comes stress (for me at least)! With a manic work schedule, comes festivities and cheer. With festivities and cheer, comes a hangover! With each antecedent comes a behaviour. With each behaviour comes a consequence. What is your dogβs behavioural and emotional response to Christmas? Barking? Zoomies? Hiding? Licking? What about if the emotional response was reconditioned? Instead of excitement, fear and/or worry, be practised calmness and settled in or on a boundary? And this isnβt just for Christmas! Who wants that all year round? Wouldnβt it be nice to have a festive time with a dog that has confidence, a neutral response to noise and a good value and understanding in a crate. A dog that can disengage and listen to cues whilst there is noise going onβ¦ ππ½ What are you doing with your delivery boxes and packaging? Recycling them? We focus so much on the lead walk, but we often donβt think of the prep and ingredients of the walk. Like making a cake, there are a lot of ingredients that go into the overall result and a lot of trial and error. If you can change your attitude towards lead walking, understand the whats, whys and hows, youβll build a better result and relationship with your dog!

Dogs will go to where the value is and this dog is currently seeing value in charging outside and barking at the fence next door. It's down to me this weekend as his human to get him thinking that running away from that and sniffling in a mat is a better deal. We tried it for the first time and even though he went back to the door afterwards he wasn't charging to get out! He waited, turned and looked at me and he got rewarded back on the snuffle mat (with the remainder of his breakfast feed). With the fan on, the curtains drawn and plenty of supervision, this little old dude is doing ok. Benji is a senior dog and over 10 years old. Being a pug he has a teeny button nose.
