Can't wait, so great to see scientists putting the effort to give us better understanding what works for our doggies. Now I just need to learn patience 😅 as these things are never quick.
UPDATE ON THE RAW V DRY FED DOGS STUDY...
Thanks to everyone for your understanding and patience with the delay in this project.
Vicky is working away on this project as hard as she can. She has spent many hours working away on Excel spreadsheets, trying to tie together all the reports (145 dogs on the total care plan, TCP, and 638 additional dogs on the health circle plan, HCP, where diet is not specified, meaning while some may be raw fed, most of which are not as it would have been noted).
Our problem is the current records system used by the vets does not offer an adequate search option (honestly, in 2025...), meaning each record must be carefully reviewed one-by-one by Vicky to extract every bit of disease data she can.
Very laborious stuff. In fact, by the time this project is finished, Vicky estimated she will have spent many times longer on it than initially anticipated.
This is the coal face of science that folk don't often see. It's not all Nobel prizes! Like a mechanic pricing a job before they lift the hood, a million things can pop up when you get stuck in, throwing initial time (and cost) estimations straight out the window.
Sadly, as the current budget doesn't allow us to lock a few young master's students in a dark room with the data and a near-unlimited supply of Pot Noodles, all this extra work falls to Vicky.
On the plus side, being so neck deep in the data puts Vicki in a great position for the final data analysis and eventual write-up, bringing more useful discussion points to the paper.
How long does it take? Once Vicky writes up the study and submits it to the Open Access journals, you can expect between 6 and 12 months to get it through peer review and accepted for publication.
However, the key details of the study can be released before that in a topline manner - perhaps a 250-word written abstract for conference presentation.
Again, thanks for your patience. We are going to get this done.
More as we know it,
Conor, Vicky & Richard
