Managed to fill it all the way this time. 🤞
Now it’ll sit here today on test. Then I’ll retest it once I’ve tidied the silicone up.
NOTE:for anyone who has doubts about Juwel aquariums. This tank was made in 2007, 18 years ago. Not a bad age for a small leak.

Just got in. Put the Rio 180 outside to test.
Then notice that the Flowerhorn display tank is leaking 🤦‍♂️🤣🤣
Can’t make it up.
Clean an empty tank, chuck that water in the 180 out the front-no point throwing away water to then test fill a tank fresh water.

So here’s what I’ve done on that Juwel Rio 180.
*THIS IS ONE WAY OF DOING THIS. OTHER PEOPLE MAY USE DIFFERENT METHODS. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYONE DOING THIS AND IT NOT WORKING* And just because I saw this corner leaking, doesn’t mean any others aren’t. We’ll see when it comes to testing in a few days.

Step 1, Drain the water out and dry the corner concerned.
Step 2, Using a nice sharp knife carefully cut out the whole up and down length of silicone. (At this point some people would say do the whole tank, but nothing else looked to be leaking so I’m doing what I can see)
Step 3, Clean off any excess silicone off the 2 faces near the corner and in the corner between the glass.
Step 4, Use some methylated spirit or similar to clean off the silicone residue.
Step 5, Grab the silicone of your choice (and your lunch because it’s hungry work ) and make sure you have something to wipe silicone off your hand or glass or anything else you get it on.
Step 6, Lay a nice bead of silicone down and smooth it down whilst squeezing it into the gap in the corner. Wipe off any excess and Repeat this step and smooth down for the finished corner.
And the last pic, leave to dry. Some people put tape down the sides and pull off for a clean edge, but I’ve never had much luck with that. I’ll cut away anything I don’t want another day. I find it’s less messy once dried.

Didn’t get to fill the tank fully. Found the leak. That little dribble made quite a bit puddle at the customers house. Repair details coming soon.

Emergency tank swap.
Customer had a tank that was leaking pretty well. Called us up,
have you got a Rio 180 tank,
yes we have but it’s a different colour to the cabinet you have
Ok I’ll take the new cabinet too, but can you come and swap it over.
I can but probably not till I have cover during the week, but give me a bit I’ll see you if I can sort cover.
Called them back a bit later,
Yep I can bring the new one along and move the contents over.
Excellent. It’s at my dad’s place I’ll let him know you’re coming.

So off I went with some buckets, hoses, nets and a 25litre of water just in case (hoping I wouldn’t need more).

Took the decor out and pumped over most of the water using the water or filter pump. Moved the fish over and then took the gravel out. It’d been cleaned recently so wasn’t too bad. Gravel back in, decor in and put the filter media from the old filter into the new one. Topped I up a little bit, all electrics on and tidy up.
Job done.
Took the old tank away for inspection/disposal/possible repair.
I’ll be working on it today as I now know where it’s leaking from.
