Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce Essex Silkies to you.
They are carrying on with my breeding projects, taking on most of our breeding birds & have filled there incubators with eggs from birds of all colours.
They are also collecting & hatching eggs from our birds that we still have.

We hatch regularly with an average of 75% fertility, usually producing a 50% of hatched chicks from the total eggs incubated.

I candled the 700 eggs & found 511 to be fertile, 73%. Some pens were a lot better than others. The 3 best results were in pens with 3-4 cockerels running with the hens. Some cockerels have been changed to see if the next hatch could get any better. 🤞🏻 Paint 46/62. 74% Lavender 48/50. 96% Cuckoo 49/55. 89% Grey 41/54. 76% Chocolate 51/66. 77% Partridge 37/42. 88% Splash 49/83. 59% Red 52/70. 74% White 43/60. 72% Blue 37/46. 80% Gold 44/80. 55% Black 14/32. 44% This video shows how I candle them in the trays, with a flash light.
