We have until February 7th to register our opposition to the planning permission to demolish the Bicknacre pet shop and replace with a supermarket that nobody wants.

Wonderful contact magazine article has been turned into a proforma below to make it easy for you. Link is to the planning permission you just need to register your opposition. Also got John whittingdale's email address below if you want to send it to him.

I am writing to formally object to the planning application for the proposed retail outlet development on the site of Priory Pet and Country Stores, Bicknacre. This proposal raises significant concerns that could adversely impact the character, safety, and well-being of the village and its residents.
1. Traffic and Safety Hazards The proposed site is located on Maldon Road, which is already heavily congested, particularly due to increased traffic from developments in nearby areas. Introducing a busy retail outlet between two mini-roundabouts will exacerbate traffic issues, creating a hazardous environment for drivers and pedestrians. The proximity to Jesters Kids Club and Nursery raises additional safety concerns, as children and parents frequently access this area.
2. Loss of Local Business and Character The demolition of Priory Pet and Country Stores would result in the loss of a beloved local business that serves the community. Furthermore, replacing it with a multinational retail chain would erode the village's unique character and undermine existing independent retailers, including Priory Village Stores and James Fruit & Veg.
3. Questionable Need for the Development Bicknacre is already well-served by supermarkets and convenience stores in nearby towns, as well as local shops within walking distance. There is no demonstrated need for another retail outlet. The argument that it will reduce car movements is unconvincing, as the development would likely attract more vehicles to the area, not fewer.
4. Impact on Existing Infrastructure The proposed site is unsuitable for a high-traffic retail outlet due to its location in a cul-de-sac and its reliance on limited infrastructure. The potential addition of measures like zebra crossings or expanded parking would further disrupt the area and negatively impact residents.
This proposal poses significant risks to the safety, sustainability, and character of Bicknacre. I urge the council to reject this application and instead prioritize developments that genuinely enhance the quality of life for residents without compromising safety, local businesses, or the village’s identity.
Thank you for considering this objection.
Yours sincerely,

🚨 Can You Help? 🚨 PLEASE SHARE!

Priory Pet Supply in Bicknacre, a much-loved, family-run healthy pet food shop, is being evicted to make way for a Tesco’s. This trusted business has been a lifeline for so many of us looking after our pets' wellbeing.

They’re urgently searching for a retail unit of approximately 1200-1300 sq ft in the Danbury, Bicknacre, or Sandon area so they can continue serving the community.

If you know of any available premises or have any leads, please comment below or get in touch. Let’s rally together and help them find a new home! 🐾

The planning permission link is here if you wanted to object to it as it's not going to be great for the area either.

Is your environment actually making your dog’s behaviour worse?

Just like a goat needs a field to graze in and a cat needs somewhere to climb, dogs need safe spaces to feel secure and relaxed. In our behaviour plans, we focus on providing dogs with the things they need to decompress, reduce stress, and build confidence.

Stress can impact learning, behaviour, and overall well-being, so creating a calm, safe space isn’t just a bonus it is as essential as food and water.

If you have a dog with behaviour issues, start by thinking about their environment, stress levels, and rest. Also, take a look at their daily diary—is it too busy? Dogs need balance, and cramming too many activities into their day can lead to an increase in unwanted behaviours.

If you’re interested in making positive changes to improve your dog’s behaviour, comment ‘safety’ below, and we’ll reach out to you!** 🌿🐾

Help me welcome Tim greyhound and his mum Karen to the ambassador dog team.

Tim had his first job today and was absolutely perfect. His calm nature meant the client's dog Hugo could tailgate progressively closer without barking and we got some solid training done.

At 12 years old Tim is one of our most senior ambassador dogs.

Also rocking his Christmas coat. Which means it's time for me to wish you all a very merry Christmas out there in dog land. ☃️🐩⭐🎄♥️

From Reactive to Remarkable: How Loki Conquered His Fears.

Please help me say a huge well done to Scott and Loki!

When Scott first reached out to me his gorgeous but reactive dog Loki, was struggling with barking, lunging, and intense reactions to certain dogs on their street. One dog in particular had become Loki’s nemesis—just seeing this dog from a distance would send him into a barking frenzy. Walks were stressful, and Scott was starting to dread his walks.

Together, Scott and I created a tailored training plan for Loki. We focused on building his engagement, teaching him to change his emotions, giving Scott the tools to communicate with Loki more effectively and accountability tracking. Scott committed to daily practice and embraced the grind with remarkable commitment, knowing that every small win was a step toward success.

After just two months of consistent effort, Loki’s progress has been incredible. Last week, the ultimate test happened: Loki saw his nemesis dog right outside the house!!!!!. But instead of barking or reacting, Loki turned to Scott, eyes bright with focus, asking for a treat! This was a huge breakthrough—proof that all the hard work had paid off.

Scott fed back to me on the next session, “I couldn't believe my eyes!!"

If you’re ready to turn stressful walks into calm, connected moments with your dog, comment “progress,” and I’ll personally reach out to see how I can help you and your dog. Don’t wait to start your transformation story—Loki’s success could be your dog’s future!

🔍🐾 Something you should think about when your dog is being "naughty"🐾🔍

Solving canine behaviour issues is like cracking a mystery. Every dog has their own unique story, and uncovering the root cause means paying close attention to every clue.

That’s why we include veterinary physio video checkups as part of our behaviour packages, working with Toni Arnold from Level-up Veterinary Physiotherapy.

Please give her a follow.

A thorough approach means faster, more effective solutions. Happier, pain-free dogs are more receptive to training. And by ruling out orthopaedic discomfort, we can focus fully on emotional well-being and behaviour strategies.

Let us connect the dots and guide your dog to a stress-free life. 🐾Comment "connect" if you're interested in our behaviour package.

What Does Canine Behaviour Change have in Common with Battling Alcoholism????

You’d think behaviour change is simple—just stop doing what causes problems and do more of what doesn’t. But here’s the kicker: humans often repeat the very actions causing issues, hoping they’ll eventually solve themselves. It’s Einstein’s definition of madness in action.

An alcoholic doesn’t recover by spending more time at the pub. A weightlifter doesn’t heal a squat injury by squatting harder. So why do we think exposing a reactive dog to overly stressful situations will help them “get over it”?

Spoiler: It won’t.

A key challenge in behaviour modification is guiding clients to reduce problematic actions and build on positive ones. For example, the first step for an alcoholic is to completely stop going to places that encourage drinking. Someone injured while squatting would pause squats.

Instead, the alcoholic might attend support meetings, find confidence-building hobbies, or make friends who drink less. The weightlifter would focus on strengthening smaller muscles. Each must rebuild gradually before re-engaging.

How Does This Relate to Canine Behaviour? Quite a Lot!

In my work with dogs, many dogs are calmer with increased distance but highly reactive with closer distances such as on busy streets. Yet, the temptation can be to continue street walks, hoping the dog will adapt.

Instead, open and quieter spaces—where the dog is less reactive—are the ideal starting point for behaviour training. This setting allows the dog to build new skills and positive associations in an environment where they can focus and desensitise. A common misconception is assuming that because the dog is calm in open spaces, they don't need any more training there. In reality, this is the perfect opportunity to build a “positive bank balance” of positive experiences. Once a strong positive association is in place, other locations and situations can be introduced. Conversely, repeatedly exposing a dog to stressful settings without preparation is like sending an alcoholic back to the pub daily before they’ve developed coping skills.

As the saying goes: if you want change, you need to change what you’re doing.

From Rambunctious to Reliable: How Cassie Transformed.

When Patrick first brought Cassie to me, they were struggling with a very rambunctious Labrador who would run off and not listen. Cassie’s energy made it difficult for Patrick to enjoy their outdoor adventures together.

We began with a customized training plan that focused on loose lead walking and recall, incorporating positive reinforcement techniques. This approach helped Cassie learn to focus and respond, even when distracted.

Cassie showed incredible improvement. She went from running off in every direction to returning promptly when called, even while chasing after something exciting. Now, she’s not only obedient but also mastering various gundog skills, including retrieving!

If you’re ready to see these kinds of results with your dog, comment "progress" and I’ll personally message you to see how I can help!
