SUMMER SAFETY TIPS

It's important in this weather that we take precautions to protect our pet from heatstroke and over exertion. Here are some tips for keeping your pet safe in the heat:

🌥 Walk your pet at cooler times of the day (early mornings and late evenings) and ensure your pet has access to shaded areas. Do not over exert them and take care during play times.

💧 Ensure your pet has constant access to clean, fresh water to stay hydrated.

🚗 Do not leave dogs in hot cars, conservatories or other warm environments as these areas can reach fatal temperatures quite quickly.

❗️ Take extra precautions if your pet is overweight or has underlying medical conditions.

🐰 RABBIT VACCINATIONS🐰

Did you know that rabbits also require yearly vaccinations just like dogs and cats?

Rabbits need to be vaccinated against Myxomatosis and Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease which are both prevalent within the UK and can be fatal to our bunnies. These diseases can be spread by insects and physical contact so even those that live indoors or alone need protecting.

Is your rabbit vaccinated? If not get them protected today!

🪱 WORM CONTROL 🪱

Cats and dogs can get infected from a range of worms including tapeworm, roundworm and lungworm. These can be transmitted in a number of ways including fleas, faeces or infected food or animals. You are unlikely to know if your pet has worms until they have an infestation at which time symptoms are seen and worms can be visibly spotted in the faeces. By this point, the worms can be causing serious damage to our pets and they could also be spreading diseases to humans too.

How often should you worm your pet? This can depend on your pet's lifestyle including if they hunt/scavenge, are around young children or if they are fed on a raw diet. For more information on the best preventative treatment for your pet, call the practice on 01704 535233 and a member of our team can provide further advice.

❗️ PARASITE PROTECTION ❗️

Fleas and ticks are a year round threat to our pets. Fleas can infest homes, cause anemia, skin allergies (to pets and owner!) and transmit tapeworm 🪱
Ticks can also be hard to spot and can carry diseases that pose a risk to pets and humans.

You might not be able to spot any but that doesn't mean they are not there! Keep your pets parasite-free and stay up-to-date with parasite protection.
