Myth or fact? Dogs that need space are aggressive.

That's a myth! Not all dogs that need space are aggressive.

Although some might be, others might be recovering from surgery, in training, anxious, or simply prefer not to interact with other dogs or people.

What is the reason that your dog needs space?

β„οΈπŸ˜ΏπŸš—πŸΎ Check Before You Drive: Protect Cats in Cold Weather! πŸΎπŸš—πŸ˜Ώβ„οΈ

As the temperature drops, cats and small animals often seek warmth under car bomnets or wheel arches. Before starting your engine, take a moment to protect them:

πŸ”Έ Tap the bonnet or knock on it to give any hiding cats a chance to escape.
πŸ”Έ Look under your car for any signs of movement or fur.
πŸ”Έ Be extra vigilant if you park outside or in areas where stray cats roam.

A quick check could save a life this winter. Let’s keep our furry friends safe! πŸ’™

Ways to help your pets through New Year Fireworks πŸŽ†

When the time comes to take down your decorations please don’t bring your Christmas trees to Formby – we no longer need them as the conservation project we used them for was successfully completed several years ago.

In the past we have used Christmas trees to give nature a helping hand to repair areas of the dunes popular for exploring, particularly around the Victoria Road car park. They worked like a temporary sticking plaster.

The branches trapped windblown sand as it came ashore. The trapped sand helped natural processes restart and marram grass to become established again.

Here's where you can recycle your tree locally;
🌲 Formby Household Waste Recycling Centre, L37 8DL.

🌲 Sefton Meadows Household Waste Recycling Centre, L31 8BX.

🌲 South Sefton Household Waste Recycling Centre, L20 4AE.

🌲 Southport Household Waste Recycling Centre,
PR9 7RG.

🌲 Queenscourt Hospice Christmas tree recycling scheme

🌲 St Joseph's Hospice Christmas tree recycling scheme

You can find out more about our conservation work at NT Formby on our website https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/liverpool-lancashire/formby/conservation-work-at-formby

Too many reports recently of dogs being hurt, chased, bitten, scared or attacked from an off lead dog because handlers didn't think they should put their dog on a lead.

Why should they?
Their dog is ok!
Their dog is friendly!
Their dog is not aggressive!
Their dog just wants to say "Hi"
Their dogs just wants to play
They haven't had any bad experiences .......... Yet!

Please please think about others. If you see a dog on a lead, It doesn't matter what your dog is like. Put your dog on a lead!

It's a simple as that.

THE PERILS OF PUNISHMENT

It’s easy to stop or suppress a behaviour by using punishment, force or pain and say that it really works, so why even bother to do it differently?

Punishment based methods may well β€œfix” the behaviour quickly, are far easier, require far less effort, less knowledge, less education, or even just be based on traditional belief, but these methods come at a great cost - destroying trust, creating insecurity, fear, anxiety, provoking aggression, causing dogs to shut down or feel helpless and prevent dogs from learning an alternative, more acceptable behaviour.

There is so much modern, scientific evidence to support force free, positive reinforcement methods as being the most effective and successful way to modify behaviour.

There is nothing admirable, ethical or intelligent in physically or emotionally forcing any sentient being to comply.

Take the time and make a commitment to understand and learn about positive, force free, science-based methods.

As we get ready to celebrate Christmas with all the festive cheer, please be mindful of the fact that foods that we love at Christmas can be harmful to our dogs.

Award- Winning Canine Adventure Trails and Pet Sitting Service in your own home.

Bespoke Canine Adventures for your dogs’ needs. Adventures can be tailored to meet your dog where they are at. Adventures can be a solo dog walk to help to build their confidence and support their training needs if required.

Our Spaniel Sniffari is 1.5 hours long, perfect to tire those Spaniel legs as well as their brains as the adventures are packed full of fun games and activities. These adventures take a smaller number of dogs onboard to to ensure extra safety, extra attention and extra training time for your doggos.

Our Waggy Trails are 45 minutes long, and consist of a slightly larger number of dogs. Again they focus on attention, recall, brain games but are open to all breeds. As you can see, I attract lots of Spannys and I love it.

We also offer pop ins to help with feed times, visits in the day for extra TLC for all of your pets. Please get in touch if you have a pet that you need help with. Secret fact, I always owned rodents (gerbils and Degus in particular) so feel free to send any requests my way for your whiskered pals too.
