Meet Mook — Our dear girl who once fell victim to human contraceptive injections intended for dogs 💉
🚩 Good Intentions Gone Awry

Mook once roamed the streets, subsisting on scraps provided by locals. Being female, the community worried she might become pregnant and produce more stray puppies. Consequently, she was regularly administered human birth control hormones.

Over time, Mook began to suffer from the adverse effects; she lost her appetite, became severely underweight, and developed a high fever. Fortunately, a compassionate neighbour noticed her plight and swiftly brought her to our clinic, where she was diagnosed with pyometra – a severe and potentially life-threatening uterine infection.
🌾 A New Life at the Farm

Our veterinary team devotedly nursed Mook back to health with abundant TLC and nutritious meals until she was fit for surgery. Post-recovery, Mook's life transformed dramatically.

Since joining the Jai Dog family in 2018, Mook has made the Farm her permanent home, where she can live out her days safe and sound.
💞 How You Can Support Her

Mook's early experiences have left her nervous and averse to change. She relishes her life at the Farm, surrounded by fellow canines and the caring staff of Jai Dog Rescue who understand her.

Your generous support can help us cover the essential costs for her and other dogs to live the fulfilling lives they deserve. Check the link in our bio or in the comment to sponsor a Jai dog and show how much you care for them.

We've had some lovely visitors!

A group of students from Bangkok popped by to donate dog food and treats in celebration of their friend's birthday 🎂🥳.

It's truly heartwarming to see young people extending their kindness to animals in need. It gives us great hope that they'll grow into compassionate adults who deeply value animal welfare.

We can confirm that our Jai Dogs were absolutely thrilled to meet our guests and tuck into some yummy treats 🐶.

Thanks ever so much for coming, and we hope to see you again in the future!

Bentley & Jai Dog Rescue 🚗

We are so excited to share a few of the stunning photos taken over the weekend thanks to who were kind enough to lend us one of their vehicles to use as a unique photo opportunity!

We met so many amazing dogs and are so grateful to their owners for their charitable donation. If your dog had a photo op on the day make sure to check your junk folder. We started sending out your photos and are slowly making our way through them and will continue sending them over the next couple days.

A special thanks to the amazing photographer .d.lawrence who spent all day being blown away and covered in dribble and fur in order to raise funds for our rescue based out in Thailand.

Meet the Jai Dogs 🐶

This weekend (18th and 19th) the Jai Dog Rescue team will be at Goodwoof as the offical charity partner! We can't wait to raise awareness and for all the wonderful life-changing work our charity does.

Jai Dog Rescue is located on the outskirts of the central province of Nakhon Nayok. Nestled in the beautiful foothills of Khao Yai National Park, our idyllic shelter is home to 95 dogs and while we can't bring all our dogs to the event, we are excited to invite a few!

After finding loving homes in the UK, these rescued dogs will be coming along to Goodwoof on Saturday and Sunday and are so excited to meet you!🐾

Meet the Dogs: Onnut 💕

One of, if not the oldest dog at Jai, Onnut spent the first 10 or so years of her life in the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Life as a street dog is hard, but as she grew older and cataracts slowly took her sight, she found herself in constant danger of the busy-traffic.

Thanks to a kind individual, we were alerted to her plight and we got to work. Likely her first ever vet appointment, Onnut was treated for an injury to her foot, blood and intestinal parasites, vaccinated, treated for a skin condition, and given pain relief for her arthritis. She had a warm bath and her matted fur was clipped away.

Onnut now lives a different life from the one she once knew. Her days are spent eating, sunbathing, and getting cuddles from everyone. After nearly three years at Jai, she is truly enjoying her retirement.

Success Story: Tha Chang 🐶

Last year we introduced you to a very sickly dog. Despite his skeletal figure, he was still trying to protect himself from the good intentions of our dog catch team.

After some persistence, our team was able to secure Tha Chang who was quickly transported to our clinic, and we wasted no time getting him the treatment he so desperately needed.

After vaccinations, medication, and a healthy meal, Tha Chang enjoyed the first of many medicated baths to treat the mange which was the cause of hair loss and scabs across his frail body.

While his life on the streets had left me distrustful of people, Tha Chang quickly came out of his shell with the Jai team being a constant supply of tasty food and delicious treats. We quickly saw progress as his weight continued to rise and soon after, he began regrowing his beautiful fur.

Tha Chang has now fully recovered and although his fur is a bit patchy we still think he is a very handsome gentleman.

💦Songkran Day 💦

Songkran is an important event on the Buddhist calendar, this water festival marks the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year and is celebrated by spending time with family and soaking friends with water, something our Jai Dogs are experts at!

This time of year you can usually find our resident Jai Dogs escaping the heat by lounging in front of fans or retreating into the shade

We do our best to reduce the risk of heat stroke by only walking our dogs in the very early hours of the morning, providing plenty of cool water and homemade enrichment popsicles.

With so many dogs in our care we got through a lot of water while making sure to include each dog in the festivities with a cool and refreshing shower!

Team Training 🩺

Our veterinary nurses and dog catching team members we excited to participate in medical training sessions to help them better handle emergency situations which they may encounter when working with dogs on the Farm and out on the streets. Dr. Benz and Dr. Nam are experienced Jai vets who lead these sessions, sharing their knowledge and assisting in training.

Our dog catching team are the first to respond to emergency animal rescues and often encounter animals in need of serious medical assistance. Staying up to date with common first aid practices such as CPR and having the opportunity to practice these techniques under veterinary guidance will allow them to confidently apply these learned techniques in real world emergencies.

With our veterinary nursing team being responsible for assisting our veterinarians through complex surgeries and for the care of animals which have recently been rescued and are receiving medical treatment, it’s important to stay up to date with training so they are able to respond swiftly in the event of an emergency.

Jai Dog Rescue is a non-profit organisation that operates to improve the quality of life of street dogs through sterilisation, rescue and rehoming. Additionally, we provide support to local communities in the area through Jai Aid and education programmes. To learn more about the work we do, please click the link in our bio.

Meet the Team: Intira Nakonkong 🐕

"Back in high school, I used to have a dog that I loved dearly. At the time, he had a wound in his ear which became infected. Knowing that taking him to the vet would be expensive. So despite not having much knowledge, I took it upon myself to care for him. I cleaned the wound, applied medication, and sprinkled insect repellent powder every day. To my surprise, the wound healed on its own. This experience sparked my interest in animal care, prompting me to ask my mom to let me study this field. Luckily, there was an available quota for the Veterinary Science program at that time. I found it fascinating and decided to apply.

In this role, my main responsibility is to handle cases when people reach out for help. I take care of sick animals that are admitted, providing them with food, water, and medication. I clean and dress wounds according to the veterinarian's instructions. Working here gives me peace of mind. There's no pressure, and the veterinarians trust me. They don't micromanage me; I do my job and have time for my family.

As a child, while others dreamed of becoming doctors or soldiers, I wanted to open an animal shelter to help stray dogs and cats. When my teacher asked me, I said I wanted to create a sanctuary for abandoned animals. She laughed, thinking I was joking. But even as a child, I spoke from the heart. When I saw stray dogs, my heart ached, and I wanted to take them home. If I had a lot of money, I would help them find homes without hesitation. But reality hit, and I knew it would require a significant amount of money. When I started working here, I felt fulfilled. It's like I'm living my dream. I'm part of something that helps improve their lives. At least they have a place to receive care when they're sick. It's not just a job; it fills me up with purpose."

Community Support: Visit from KPIS International School 🎓

With 90+ resident dogs living on the Farm, Jai Dog Rescue is always so appreciative of an extra pair of hands. We were spoiled when eager students arrived, ready to get stuck in and take care of our rescue dogs from dusk till dawn.

This incredible group of youngsters was keen to help, and after some educational talks, they got right to work. The dogs were walked, bathed, and spent their afternoon enjoying enrichment toys thanks to the students' hard work. It’s safe to say that both the dogs and the students had a great time together.

We were so pleased to be able to show the future generation the importance of responsible dog care and excited to hear that a few of the Jai Dogs were able to convince a few formerly fearful individuals that dogs aren’t so scary after all.

We are delighted to see young people and educational institutions showing interest and wanting to support our work to improve the quality of life for street dogs. We hope that today's experience will help instill a positive attitude towards street dogs.

thank you for visiting us, and see you again next time. 💞

Meet the Dogs: Jaidee ใจดี

Jaidee is one of 90 dogs who call Jai Dog Rescue home. Her name means "Kindhearted," and that’s definitely a true reflection of her and her personality.

Jaidee used to be a stray dog living near a construction site with several other dogs. The site was known to be a place where dogs often lost their lives to collisions with vehicles. Luckily, local residents came to help and kindly brought Jaidee to Jai before she could become another victim.

Jaidee has been a resident at the Farm for a few years now, and her affectionate personality makes her the best snuggle buddy for all the team. She enjoys mingling with her canine friends and is often seen playing a game of chase around the dog play park. If you’re in Thailand and looking to add a furry member to your family, Jaidee might be the right choice for you. Make sure to reach out to learn more about her or any of our other residents who call Jai Dog Rescue home.

Meet the Team: Dr. Ton 🩺

"Since graduating, I've been working as a veterinarian, mainly at animal hospitals. Most cases I handle involve pets with owners. These animals have the opportunity to receive treatment because they have someone looking after them. However, there are animals that don't have this chance. Most often, it's stray dogs or dogs with owners who can't afford to take care of them.

For private animal hospitals or clinics, it's a business. Everything has a cost, just like any other business. If people can't afford the treatment, the animals may miss out on the treatment. Sometimes, those who try to help animals in such situations have to give up. They may choose to return the dog to where they found it or simply abandon it at the hospital and disappear. They might think the hospital or the doctor will take care of it. In summary, they can't help. The doctors themselves are just salaried employees. This is a common occurrence.

We've encountered these situations all along. One day, I saw a job advertisement from Jai Dog Rescue and decided to try something different. I've been here for about a year now. Working for this foundation has given me the opportunity to help animals that would otherwise be neglected, ensuring they receive the care they deserve. This allows me to provide full assistance without worrying whether the owner can afford treatment.

If I could say something to society, it would be to raise awareness about pet ownership in Thailand. Keeping a pet comes with responsibilities and expenses. Before getting a pet, people should ask themselves if they're ready. If not, it leads to abandonment, cruelty, and continued animal abuse, which has become a societal issue today."

Unsung Heroes: Update on Khun Neang

Khun Neang is a native of Nakhon Nayok province for the past 29 years. She rides her motorcycle over 40 kilometers twice a day to deliver food to hungry street dogs along the roadside. Throughout the journey, there are up to 120 dogs that rely on her for her daily food deliveries.

Neang is retired and living on her pension, which she uses to support herself, her husband, and the stray dogs. Despite facing many challenges in life, she remains determined to continue helping these stray dogs. Her dedication and generosity are just some of the reasons we decided to make Neang one of our Unsung Heroes.

Last year, we raised funds to purchase a new three-wheeled motorcycle, replacing her old, worn-out sidecar motorcycle which was prone to failure and caused her to walk home on numerous occasions.
Her new mortorbike allows her to safely transport the dog food along her journey. Like Neang, we are committed to helping the dogs in her care and provide monthly contributions of dry food as well as help with neutering and vaccinating the stray dogs along her route.

We are so grateful to the support you have shown Neang and all of our Unsung Heroes. If you would like to continue to support Neang and the street dogs in her care, you can donate by clicking the link below.

🩹Jai Aid: Meet Mr. Tor-yu 🩹

Mr. Tor-yu is originally from Nakhon Nayok province who cares for stray dogs in the community. Here's what he has to say about caring for these four legged friends.

"When I encounter a stray dog outside, I feel sorry for it because someone abandoned it. It struggles to find food, sleeps on the grass, and no one feeds it. So, I started taking care of it little by little.

Taking care of these dogs feels like mutual support. They help watch over the house when I'm out, and they also provide companionship for me. It's reassuring to see them well-fed, not having to scavenge on the streets or be given boredoms by villagers. At home, I take care of them without causing them stress. We have a three-rai plot where they can roam around freely because it's safely fenced on all sides.

At home, I have around 16 stray dogs that I've been taking care of for about 20 years now. Most of them are disabled, with broken legs from being hit by cars or having limbs amputated due to diseases like kidney problems.

As I'm getting older, I've had to limit the number of dogs I take care of because I'm afraid that if I die, they'll be abandoned again. As for the stray dogs outside, I can only provide them with food with the resources I have.

Many people who take care of stray dogs, whether along the roadside or taking them in, often face the biggest problem of food expenses. For me, the cost of taking care of these dogs is not a burden. But for the stray dogs outside, I provide food for about 40-50 dogs every day. The monthly expense is more than what I spend on myself. I've thought about stopping feeding them for a week, but I couldn't bring myself to do it because I'm afraid they'll suffer.

Nowadays, the number of stray dogs is increasing because people get bored and abandon them on the roadside. Some people abandon the puppies when they're born because they can't afford to raise more.

I want to tell those who are thinking of taking care of dogs that firstly, if you do, please neuter them and vaccinate them. Secondly, take good care of them so that they can survive because they've been with us for a long time."

Jai Dog Rescue works to improve the lives of dogs in our community and here's how we do it!

💉Sterilisation & Vaccination (CNVR)

Sterilising and vaccinating street dogs is a critical part of our operations. CNVR (Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release) is the most effective and ethical way to control the population of stray dogs by controlling population growth, preventing the spread of diseases, and improving animal welfare. By sterilising and vaccinating, CNVR helps manage the stray dog population, decreases the transmission of diseases like rabies, enhances the overall health and well-being of street dogs, and mitigates conflicts between humans and animals. Contributing to creating safer, healthier, and more harmonious communities for both humans and animals alike.

🚑Rescue & Rehabilitation

Rescuing dogs in distress is at the heart of our operations. Due to overpopulation, both feral and community dogs are often competing for limited resources while being exposed to dangerous environmental factors including vehicle collision and disease. Our initiatives provide immediate medical attention, shelter, and care, aiding dogs in recovering physically and emotionally.

🩹Jai Aid

We work closely to support shelters and community volunteers dedicated to caring for street dogs across rural Thailand. This support includes emergency treatment, food, medicine, and supplies. But our efforts don't stop there; we also have programmes to provide free education to the schools in our area that raise awareness around issues faced in the animal welfare sector. During school holidays our efforts are focussed towards promoting animal welfare in the healthcare sector as well as within the local communities.

🏠 Rehoming

For the Dogs who are Unable to be released back to their homes, we ensure they have safety at the Farm. We work tirelessly to promote adoption for street dogs in our community and have been happy to see so many shelter dogs adopted into loving homes. For dogs that require special care and cannot be rehomed, such as disabled or elderly dogs, they will find shelter and live peacefully on The Farm, enjoying daily walks through the mango fields and jungle.

Nai Roi has hit the jackpot, he has been adopted! His new family live locally and have taken him home to start his new life and even given him a new name, Betong “เบตง”!

We are so excited for Betong and can’t wait to see how he progresses in his new loving home. While he will be missed by our team and his canine friends, it’s wonderful to see him thriving in his new home.

Meet The Dogs : Massaman คิดถึงคุณ 💕

At only four weeks old, he was abandoned in the middle of the night on the road in front of P Sumneung’s shelter. Unable to defend himself, he became yet another victim of a dog fight. With puncture wounds and a suspected broken leg, P Sumneung was quick to get him to safety, and the team was able to take him for X-rays at the vet the same day for a suspected broken leg. Thankfully, he was given the all-clear and his limp has all but disappeared.

Massaman has now reached his first birthday, and so much has changed. He’s no longer a scrawny or unloved puppy; this leggy boy spends his days prancing and playing with all of his friends on the Farm. He loves to cause mischief and enjoys his daily walks through the jungle.

We are so happy to see Massaman thriving when his future started out so bleak, and we hope that one day soon, he will find a loving family of his own. Until then, he will never be short on love or affection as his cheeky personality has made him a crowd favorite on the Farm.

Rescue and Rehabilitation 🐾

Every month, our team works diligently to provide aid to the dogs in our area as well as neighboring provinces. Through our mobile CNVR clinics, we continue to provide free sterilisations for both the street dogs and the community dogs of the towns and villages we visit. This approach allows our veterinary team to ethically reduce the amount of feral dogs wandering the streets and aims to prevent future litters of puppies from suffering the hardships often experienced by feral dogs.

While we continue our work on reducing the stray dog population of rural Thailand, we can't turn a blind eye to the dogs who are currently in need of medical attention. whether they be a victim of a road traffic accident, injured in a dog fight or simply ill from parasites or disease, Jai Dog Rescue is always ready to offer a helping hand.

Last month, we undertook the rescue and treatment of 30 dogs. From leg amputations, head wounds, infectious diseases, and more, our team is never short of complex cases that need expert care. Our veterinary team works hard to give the dogs the best chance at survival and rehabilitation.

Meet the Dogs: John จอห์น🐶

John began his life as a street dog, living freely with his mother and siblings by the roadside. He was fortunate to have kind villagers who often provided the young family with food, ensuring he didn't have to worry about starving.

John’s peaceful life with his siblings and came to an abrupt end when he crossed the road to greet one of local feeders. Unfortunately for young John, he was struck by a passing vehicle. The collision left him in with serious leg injury, without treatment he could become permanently disabled. He was transported to Jai Dog Rescue and the team rushed him to receive the lifesaving surgery he needed.

While initial fears about his outcome were guarded, we were so pleased to see how quickly he responded to treatment after surgery and before long, John was able regain mobility. Soon he was back on all four feet and exploring the Farm.

John now leads a normal life and enjoys playing with all his friends at the Farm. He walks with a slight limp but this doesn’t hold him back at all. If you are located in Thailand and interested in adopting sweet boy John, do reach out to our team to discuss adoption and don’t forget to follow our Thai page .thailand

It's World Spay Day! 🎉

Since Jai Dog Rescue opened its doors in 2017, our team has worked tirelessly to rescue dogs in need. However, with every dog rescued, many more continued to require our assistance.

Without humane control measures in place to reduce the stray dog population in our surrounding area, more puppies were born and ended up facing the same injuries and diseases as their parents. Car accidents, dog fights, parasites, and diseases plague street dogs around the world. Therefore, Jai decided to embark on a spay and neuter program to humanely reduce the stray dog population in rural Thailand.

To date, Jai has sterilised a whopping 14,903 dogs. While we started with humble beginnings, our programme has expanded over the years. We continue to grow our team and offer more services to the dogs in and around our shelter. This year alone, we aim to sterilise 11,000 dogs!

We are immensely grateful for the dedication of our team and the continued support of in our efforts to prevent the suffering to future street dogs.

Vaccination Day 💉

The entire Jai Team came together for a morning spent at the temple and shelter of our Unsung Hero, P Sumneung.

P Sumneung, a nun at the temple, dedicates herself to caring for around 200 dogs. Over the years, she has earned recognition as a local rescuer, often awakening to find new dogs abandoned at her gate. Never one to turn away an animal in need, she spends her days cooking, feeding, and cleaning up after her countless dogs.

Throughout the years, Jai has supported P Sumneung and the dogs in her care through medical aid, rebuilding her shelter, and our routine vaccination and deworming efforts. Given the large number of dogs roaming freely, it's crucial to vaccinate them to prevent outbreaks of common transmissible diseases.

Though the dogs aren't always thrilled about our routine visits, we're pleased to report that we accomplished our mission. Our team will rest easy after a hard day's work, knowing that each dog will be disease-free for another year.

Meet the Team: Khun Mild

Catching dogs involves more than just grabbing them; it requires a mix of knowledge, training, and hands-on experience, especially with strays who can be wary of humans. That's why we focus on effective animal handling techniques, keen observation, proper medication, and risk prevention strategies. For example, we aim to prevent accidents like car collisions, human bites, or injuries to the dogs themselves.

There are various methods we use to catch dogs, each needing careful consideration depending on the situation. When dealing with a sick dog, giving medication alone might not be enough. We have to gauge their stress levels and see if they've gone further than usual, which can be challenging to track.

Our approach is based on real-world experience. Even something as seemingly simple as administering sedatives requires precision, factoring in the dog's strength, age, weight, and overall health. Overdosing can harm their breathing. That's why we're constantly learning. Being part of an organization with experienced veterinarians allows us to seek guidance and understand the subtle effects of medication, reducing risks for the dogs.

Tracking lost dogs takes patience and good time management. Some dogs come out after our working hours, making us choose between going after them immediately or taking a break. Prioritizing and managing time effectively are key to our success.

Our work instills a deep sense of responsibility and mindfulness. Every dog in our care is a living being that deserves our full attention. Every journey with them prompts us to think about potential risks and precautions. Seeing them safely transported after careful consideration brings immense satisfaction, reminding us of the impact of our efforts.
