Taking pet care responsibilities seriously is paramount and I would urge anyone ‘shopping around’ to do their homework before choosing. Ask relevant questions! Pet care providers should never be afraid to address any concerns of yours 🐾🐾🐾🐾

I’m sure that ‘cat people’ are fully aware of how toxic paracetamol is to cats, but this post from Cat The Vet also addresses other dangerous issues that are creeping into conversations following some new legal veterinary legislation 🐾🐾🐾

Never give your cat paracetamol!

It is highly toxic to them and is easily fatal if they are not given treatment and an antidote extremely quickly.

After my post a couple of days ago about prescribing rule changes for vets, there has been quite a bit discussion on my pages about paracetamol use in pets and it made me nervous!

This medication can be used safely and legally in dogs and rabbits, provided it has been prescribed by a vet, but it can never be given to cats.

You should never give a human medication to a pet without speaking to your vet and remember that now in the U.K. they will only be able to advise you if they issue a prescription or the medication directly and it is against the law for you to purchase a human medicine with the intention of giving it to a pet without a veterinary prescription.

It is different in other parts of the world but the advice about speaking to a vet still stands!

But please remember, no paracetamol for cats!

Allowing cats to stay in their home environment whilst humans go on holiday means that they are able to maintain their normal routines, which in turn reduces the risk of any stress related issues for them 🐈🐈‍⬛

Raw, Meat Based Diets… this diet trend is potentially harmful to pets, pet owners, pet sitters and other pet professionals because of the dangers of zoonosis (bacteria being passed from pets to humans, or vice versa) - it’s an interesting, fact-based read. Last October my husband was hospitalised with campylobacter poisoning - which is one of the bacteria mentioned as being isolated from RMBD, and believe me it’s not pretty. I need to point out that RMBD pet food was NOT responsible in his case, but as a cat sitter who handles cat food every day & cleans out litter trays, I am exposed to these bacteria if RMBD are fed 😷
