❗️ This post is to inform you that MSD Animal Health has come to the decision to discontinue supply of Nobivac® Lepto 2 to ALL VETERINARY PRACTICES❗️
What this means is after a review of the newly updated WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines which were published earlier this year. The guidance now has a clear recommendation for the use of quadrivalent leptospirosis vaccines in countries where the sero-epidemiological data for the serogroups is known, which is the case for the UK.
Additionally, Dr Katherine Clarke from Davies Veterinary Specialists was quoted in a recent Vet Times article to also advise the use of quadrivalent leptospirosis vaccines: “Given the increased incidence of L2 vaccinated dogs contracting leptospirosis, the medicine team at Davies strongly advise use of the quadrivalent vaccine (L4) to protect dogs from as many serovars as possible.”
MSD manufactures will be ceasing product supply in Great Britain at the end of 2024. The final batch of Nobivac Lepto 2 10 dose has an expiry of 30/04/2025 and the final batch of Nobivac Lepto 2 50 dose has an expiry of 31/07/2025. These batches will continue to be available until all stock is sold.
All dogs will need to receive two doses of Nobivac L4 four weeks apart in order to benefit from the increased spectrum of protection.
With this being said, Holbeach and Fleet will have a limited amount of L2 in stock until the end of 2024. We will be offering free upgrades to ALL patients who have had the L2 booster's previously, unfortunately this means that eventually all puppies and dogs will only be offered the L4 vaccine in veterinary practices.
