🥵 HEAT WARNING ⚠️

It’s super hot today and set to be for the rest of the week!! We have to be extra careful with all breeds of dog, but especially our flat faced friends!

A few reminders for your dogs safety:

⚠️ Do not walk your dog
⚠️ Do not leave your dog in a car
⚠️ Do not transport your dog if they get very stressed in the car
⚠️ Do not leave your dog for long periods out in the sun

✅ Provide your dog with a cool and shaded area
✅ Offer water regularly
✅ Use a cool coat or cool mat
✅ Set up a fan
✅ Soak their coat or dip in paddling pool
✅ Offer frozen treats such as frozen yoghurt
✅ Be aware of heat stroke signs
✅ Contact your vet if you are worried

Very good points.

The Gundog way of teaching is how I live my life with my rescue dogs. I was just saying the other day, not one dog I get in with aggression comes from the Gundog fraternity. Why? Because unacceptable behaviour is not tolerated from day 1. No need to be abusive as we all hate an abuser, but firm but fair at letting a dog know that the behaviour being displayed is not acceptable. You have a short window to teach this and if you f***y about you have lost it and the dogs ends up ruling the house hold !

Kuno is the first UK military working dog to be fitted with custom made prosthetic limbs.⠀

Spot on!

Aggression issues in spaniels is at an all time high and it’s getting worse. River came to me via a vets as a young pup, kept in a crate for long periods and being Handled with oven gloves due to her biting. It is vital anyone taking on a spaniel as a pup has sufficient experience to raise that dog correctly, it is also vital that the breeder you get that dog from has the experience in dealing with breed traits and offers you support including training for as long as you as a dog owner needs. People are sentencing these dogs to death and doing them an injustice by not having the experience and back up needed to give them the the guidance needed. Luckily River was re homed by me to an experienced home where she’s had the correct guidance and stimulation needed to be a well adjusted dog. She has had no more episodes of aggression and infact is the total opposite to what she was when she was unfortunately given up.

Many people see it as a criticism when I tell them, it’s the right dog but wrong situation. You cannot p***y foot about with a young dog showing aggressive tendencies as that young dog soon becomes and adult and you have real problems on your hands.

Please don’t see the cuteness over the reality of just how badly it can turn even when doing your very best to be a caring owner for these clever little lion hearts.

The upset for all involved is immense 😭

➡ Dogs have higher resting heart rates than people or horses and a higher maximum during exercise!

➡ Average Greyhounds have a greater ability to use oxygen than the best human athletes. Sled dogs have 2x the ability of Greyhounds!

➡ Unfit dogs have around 60% of their bodyweight as water whilst in fit dogs its closer to 75%!

➡ Dark coloured and male dogs get hotter after exercise!

➡ Feeding a high-fat diet may decrease a working dogs sense of smell!

➡ Dogs also sweat on areas of the body other than just their paws!
