Group beach training walk

I have had to dig deep into the diary as things are very busy over the next few months!

I have finally settled on 10.30am Saturday 24th August.

We will meet at The view in windthorpe, have an hour's walk with help for anyone that needs it along the way and then stop for coffee before heading home.

There will be no official charge for this but I would like to raise some money for a fabulous lady who looks after disabled dogs, so any donations would be greatly received 🫶

So the other day I sent in an application for a podcast.
The presenter for The Woofi Show was looking for guests to speak on their show.

Well yesterday, I received an email saying they would like to invite me onto the show, to talk about the scent detection side of my training I provide.

Now, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous but I'm also very excited about this.

I'm hoping this will help promote the introduction to the sport more 🫶

As well as doing some demo's at our local village show on the 7th July, this is an exciting year for us ☺️🐾🐾

Not the best of picture of this little cutie but he has just embarked on his puppy training journey here at wags n woofs.

At 4 months old he is on his second owners already 😞 but his forever people are determined to do things right for him 🫶

We are pretty sure he has never been on a walk before as he is so scared.

Let's see what we can achieve in 6 weeks for them all ❤️🐕🚶‍♀️

I have created a post with all upcoming dates in one place for you.

I will need at least 5 participants for each class for them to be viable to run, otherwise they will have to be cancelled I'm afraid.

Socialising classes £5 per dog

Scent detection classes £7 per dog
(Pay for 3 in advance £15)

Group puppy course £50 for 6 weeks or £10 per class

Recall workshops £10 per dog

We will work on your dog engaging more with you and choosing you over all else.
Build up your confidence to allow off lead play and know that your dog will return when called.

As with the others, I can only run this if there is enough interest

Environment and your response.....

The environment you choose to work in can have a huge impact on your dogs attention.

Train at home to start, to minimise distractions, then build from there.

Stay calm! No matter how frustrated you get!
I know it can be hard but it is a must!
Take a deep breath and reset.

Your dog feels a lot of feelings too and gets distracted, just like you, so don't think they are choosing to ignore you and/or are being stubborn.

Imagine you are trying to answer a question on the phone and a child walks in singing through a microphone and then someone turns the radio on. Next your other child is begging you to put the TV on and make their dinner.
Very quickly, it all become overwhelming and you need to take a moment to think and get things in order.
This is just the same as a young dog in new environments with lots of different things to smell and hear.

I would recommend everyone to read it!

WHY?

What is your why, for training your dog?

You and your dog have a partnership, you both are connected through some need for one another (it's different from either side but you need each other all the same)

Your dog has no real understanding of YOUR why.
Dogs live in the moment, they don't hold grudges and they don't worry about the past too much unless it has had a significant bad effect on them.
They are opportunistic animals and live for themselves and what can better their lives in any given moment (from their own experience and perspective)

When a dog is fully immersed in play time that is what they live for.

With this in mind you need to make sure that you are the centre of your dog's world, they need to want to come to you, no matter what else is on offer!

How do we do that you ask?

By being fun, playful and happy as well as your dog knowing there are consequences.

Pack walks....

Who would be interested In me organising group training walks.
Just like the socialising classes in the sense they would be PAYG, these would help work on socialising and training in the real world.

If there is enough interest I will look more into this.
