Sadly, we have had an increased number of deceased pets left on our premises during our closed hours. This is very distressing for our staff. We would like to kindly remind our clients and the public of our opening hours and what your options are when we are closed:

Monday to Friday: 8.30am - 7pm
Saturday: 8.30am - 5pm
Sunday: closed

🐾 If you find an injured or deceased pet, such as a cat or dog, please take them to the nearest vet clinic if it is safe to do so. This means that we can scan the pet for a microchip and reunite them with their owner. If you are concerned or unsure of what to do, please contact us or the nearest vet clinic so that we can advise you on what to do.

Vets Now provide emergency out of hours care when we are closed. Our nearest Vets Now clinics are Kirkcaldy and Dundee. Their opening hours are:
Monday to Friday: 7pm - 8.30am
Saturday: 12pm - 8.30am
Sunday: 24 hours from 8.30am

🐺 If you find an injured or deceased cat and are unable to take them to a vet clinic, you may also contact your local Cats Protection. Please visit their website for advice on how to safely approach an injured cat and transport them safely to the vet clinic:

This lovely boy has been handed in to us this afternoon, he was found on Churchill Crescent, St Andrews. He is a neutered male. Microchipped but unfortunately wrong details are registered. 🐶 Meet 16 and a half year old Border Terrier, Archie 🥰

As you can tell, this distinguished gentlemen still had plenty skip in his step as he wouldn't stand still for a photo!

As a typical border terrier, fast to learn and slow to obey. It was because of this, his owners didn't even notice he went completely deaf a couple of years ago. He loves the vet, and loves a wee treat! 🐾 😍

Wellness Screening Clinic 🐶💓🐱

These clinics are basically like an MOT for your pet. These are nurse led clinics and are aimed at healthy pets only 🐾

The clinics are ideal for:
🐾 Cats over 7 years of age
🐾 Dogs over 5 years of age
🐾 Giant breed dogs over 3 years of age

The appointment consists of a blood pressure check, a full blood test and you will be asked to bring a urine sample to the appointment so that this can be tested 👩🏼‍🔬

The blood test is to check for kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes and thyroid disease. If these diseases are detected early your pet can be treated.

When all of the results come back you will be contacted by the nurse who will give you the good news that your pet is fit and healthy.
If we are concerned about any of the results a vet will call and discuss them with you and any treatment they feel may be necessary 🐾

These appointments are 30 minutes long and are run from our St Andrews and Ladybank practices.

Dental Clinics 🦷 🐾

Do you brush your pet's teeth? Is your pet's breath smelly? Does your pet seem uncomfortable around its mouth?

Come to our dental clinic and the nurse will examine your pets mouth looking for tartar, bleeding or inflamed gums and broken teeth 🦷

In puppies and kittens, they will also look for any retained baby teeth.

If the teeth are in good condition we can then give you some step by step instructions on how to introduce tooth brushing 🪥 We recommend brushing daily with a small toothbrush with nylon bristles using dog or cat toothpaste.

If the nurse feels your pet needs a dental procedure we may refer you to a vet first who will also examine your pet's mouth and will discuss the next step. This will include General Anaesthetic, scale and polish, possible extractions and dental x-rays, they will also give you a full estimate of the costs 🐾

The nurses run these clinics in our St Andrews and Ladybank practices.

✨ WEIGHT CLINICS ✨

At Provost Vets, the nurses run weight clinics for dogs and cats 🐶 🐱

Keeping your pet slim and in good body condition is very important for their health. Overweight pets can develop heart disease, joint and mobility problems and diabetes 🤯
You may be referred to our weight clinic by one of our vets if you have been in for a booster or health check. Or you may be concerned about your pet’s weight yourself and come in for some advice.

At the weight clinic we will take a full history of your pet’s diet and exercise regime. We will weigh and body condition score them, and take measurements of their neck, chest and waist. We will then make a feeding plan 🐾

The first appointment is for 30 minutes, and subsequent appointments for 15 minutes. We recommend a review every 4 weeks for a weight check.

🌟 Weight loss is a gradual process, but it is very rewarding to see the difference it can make to your pet’s health and wellbeing 💕

The nurses run these clinics at our St Andrews and Ladybank practices. Please give us a call if you would like some help with your pet’s weight 🐾
