Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary

Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary admits & rehomes around 500 animals every year. At any one time, we have up to 30 dogs, 60 cats and kittens and 15-20 rabbits.
(413)

We also care for three goats, who are our permanent guests. We often look after 70-100 animals a day. We were founded to be inclusive, understanding and a place where any animal was welcome if we are able to cater to their needs. Many of our animals come to us from difficult backgrounds. Some arrive with acute behavioural needs and some have immediate medical needs. We deal with each case individu

ally and start by earning their trust and understanding their needs. We hold our ’non-destruction policy’ as a core principle for our work. This means that we will never put a healthy animal down and work to find each one a forever home. For those who stay at the Sanctuary a little longer than others, our staff give them as close to a pet’s life as possible, for as long as an acceptable quality of life can be maintained.

Sunday Success Story ❤️

Just wanted to give you a quick update on how Luca has been doing since he moved in last month. 😍

Luca has been settling in really well! He rushed into the house full of excitement and sniffed absolutely every corner, but within a few hours, he had found a few favourite spots! 🥰

Since then he has met the family- who he was a massive hit with. The hours I work also mean we can get out and explore some beautiful places before it gets too heavy with other dogs! One of our favourites is the Downs or going duck spotting. ❤️

But his absolute FAVOURITE thing is to then come home and have a big cuddle! 💗

Thank you to Dee and all at OAS, the newest addition to our family has been settling in really well and has completely stolen our hearts. 😍

🐶💚

Thank you so much to Luca’s adopter for giving him the best home! We are so pleased he’s settling in so well. ❤️

Please meet the wonderful Stella 💖

Stella arrived at the sanctuary after she was handed into our vets as a stray. 😔

Sadly, she had an abscess from a cat bite that needed treatment. A kind member of the public handed her to a vet to ensure she got the treatment she needed. 🥰

She’s a sweet-natured lady who enjoys human companionship but she will make it very clear when she’s had enough… just like most cats!! 💖

Stella would be best suited to a home where she can sit back and relax and have a fuss as and when she wants it. 💖

Her favourite activity is to find that sunny spot where she can catch the warm rays. ❤️

Stella has been estimated to be around 8-10 years old. 😻

This gorgeous girl is looking for the following type of home 🏠
👶 Can live with children age 13+
🐈 Cannot live with other cats
🐶 Cannot live with a dog
🏡 Needs outdoor access

If you can give Stella her forever home, please click on the link below:

Please share to help Stella find her forever home. 💚

Last week we celebrated a very special day!! 🤍❤️

Not only was it Haze’s first birthday but she was also formally adopted. 🥰

Haze arrived in our care on 10th August along with her little feline family. It was clear from day one that something wasn’t quite right. Haze was much smaller than she should have been for her age and we had also witnessed her have several seizures. 😢

She had various tests run with our friends at The Hart Veterinary Centre in Bicester & Aylesbury where it was discovered that she had a liver shunt. She needed specialist care to have this intricate operation. Thankfully, she was offered a space The Ralph where they looked after her like the true princess she was and they successfully treated her. ❤️

In the meantime, one of our wonderful volunteers fell in love with her and so Marianne and her family offered to foster her so that she could recover in a home environment and have all the cuddles she desperately wanted. 😻

Roll on several months and Haze is fully recovered she has also been neutered. She was now ready to be formally adopted and who better to offer her a forever home than Marianne who she had already formed a wonderful connection and had been there every step of the way to hold her paw. 😍

Good luck Hazel with your new adventures! Thank you for being such a brave kitty throughout your journey with us here at the sanctuary. We are so proud of you. ❤️

Our thanks go out to all those involved in Haze’s care. To all of our supporters who helped us to raise the money needed to provide life-saving treatment. Finally, to Marianne and her family for offering Haze such a wonderful forever home and for all your support along the way! 💚

Special Appeal ❤️🙏 Please share 🙏❤️

Please meet the most adorable kitty around!! Peppa is five years old. She came into our care in December. We were a little shocked at how underweight she was for such a young cat. 😔

We ran various tests including an ultrasound and blood tests which showed that she had Hypercalcemia as well as being severely anaemic. 😔

Peppa has been a trooper through all of this and despite being very poorly, not that you would have known, she has fought all the way. With her fighting spirit, we have fought her corner just as much and supported her as best we can. 💖

Her most recent blood test has shown that her anaemia and calcium levels are very nearly within normal range. But sadly her kidneys have taken the brunt of the high calcium levels and sadly, it has caused irreversible damage which has now led to kidney failure. 😭

We don't know how long she has left but what we do know is that Peppa is a fighter and she deserves nothing more than to be in a loving home for as long as possible. 🙏

Peppa is looking for the following type of home 🏡
👶 Children 13+
🐈 No other cats in the home
🐶 No dogs in the home
🏡 Indoor only

We have put the above stipulations due to her condition, introducing other animals at this stage isn't doing right by Peppa. Equally, we have suggested children over 13 years old as it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster for an adult let alone a child.

If you can offer Peppa her forever home, please click on the link below:

Please share to help this fun-loving, cuddle kitty the forever home she deserves, whilst she may not give you years of companionship, she will give you a lifetime's worth of love. ❤️

Please meet seven-year-old Dottie 🤍

Dottie came to our sanctuary after the sad passing of his human companion. Understandably, this has been a difficult transition for him. 💔

However, by providing Dottie with time and space to adjust to his new surroundings, we’ve had the joy of watching his personality blossom. 😻

Mr Dott as he’s become known by the team here at the sanctuary loves his socialising time. 😍

He will instantly stroll out of his hide box for fuss, his favourite activity is to roll around on his back with his tummy exposed, this is a sign of trust and he will do it to those he has quickly built a relationship with. 🥰

Having long fur, he will need a dedicated human to help keep his coat in good condition. 🪮

He is currently on a pain trial for mild arthritis to see if this helps to improve his ability to groom. If this is successful the monthly costs will be around £25 for his medication. 💊

Mr Dott needs the following type of home 🏡
👶 Can live with children aged 14+
🐈 Cannot live with other cats
🐶 Cannot live with a dog
🏠 Indoor only

If you can give Mr Dott his forever home, please click on the link below:

🐶🏡 Dogs as Possessions vs. Dogs as Companions: Which Do You Choose?

Let's be honest, we probably all know people in both camps. On one side, there are those who treat dogs like possessions, just something to own and control.

But on the other side, there are people who truly understand that dogs are so much more than that. They're incredible beings capable of forming deep emotional connections with us.

In this article, we want to shed light on the negative consequences of seeing dogs as mere possessions. We want to show how much better life can be for both humans and dogs when we treat them as true family members or even our best buddies.

🐾 When we take the time to understand their needs, form those meaningful bonds, and appreciate the emotional depth they bring to our lives, it's like a whole new level of joy and happiness opens up. It's truly a beautiful thing to experience together.

Check out the article below to explore the differences and discover the transformative power of embracing dogs as genuine companions.

We have the BEST supporters 💚

A few weeks ago little Remi and her mum visited the sanctuary to spend an hour socialising with our cats 💖

They had been busy on the lead-up to their visit making adorable catnip toys for the cats in our care. 🥰

As you can see from the photos they were a hit!! The cats adore them and even though a few weeks have passed they are still playing with them! 😍

Thank you so much to Remi and her mum for their fabulous gifts we are so grateful and really appreciate the effort that went into making them. 👏

The cats will look forward to seeing you again soon 💖

🐕🐕 Lucky needs a home! 🐕🐕

She may be called Lucky but she's still not having much luck finding her forever home 😢😢

Maybe all good things come to those that wait but Lucky doesn't want to wait anymore! 😔

She has oodles of love to give and would be extra appreciative of a snuggly warm sofa on those cold winter mornings. 🥶

Lucky is looking for the following type of home:
✅️ A private secure garden with a minimum of 6ft fencing.
✅️ Lucky can live with children aged 8+
✅️ Lucky could live with another medium to large dog pending successful meets at the sanctuary.
✅️ A cat-free home.

Our Story

The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary admits & rehomes around 500 animals every year. Since opening in 1967, we have proudly managed to help over 27,500 animals find their forever home. At any one time, we have around 50 dogs, 70 cats and kittens plus a number of rabbits. We also care for our permanent guests of goats and a horse. We were founded to be inclusive, understanding and a place where any animal was welcome. Many of our animals come to us from difficult backgrounds. Some arrive with acute behavioural needs and some have immediate medical needs. We deal with each case individually and start by earning their trust and understanding their needs. We hold our ’non-destruction policy’ as a core principle for our work. This means that we will never put a healthy animal down and work to find each one a forever home. Where this is not possible, due to behavioural issues, for example, OAS is their home and our staff and volunteers give them as close to a pet’s life as possible. They are our sponsor animals.
