Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary

Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary admits & rehomes around 500 animals every year. At any one time, we have up to 30 dogs, 60 cats and kittens and 15-20 rabbits.
(414)

We also care for three goats, who are our permanent guests. We often look after 70-100 animals a day. We were founded to be inclusive, understanding and a place where any animal was welcome if we are able to cater to their needs. Many of our animals come to us from difficult backgrounds. Some arrive with acute behavioural needs and some have immediate medical needs. We deal with each case individu

ally and start by earning their trust and understanding their needs. We hold our ’non-destruction policy’ as a core principle for our work. This means that we will never put a healthy animal down and work to find each one a forever home. For those who stay at the Sanctuary a little longer than others, our staff give them as close to a pet’s life as possible, for as long as an acceptable quality of life can be maintained.

Our thirteen-year-old Queen of not-so-much sass 🤣👑🐈‍⬛

Hello, I’m Dingbat’s foster mum 👋

Dingbat has been with me for about a month now and we are settling in very well.😻

I was told her name at the shelter was "Queen of Sass" and she certainly put up a fight being put into the carrier. I've not really seen any sass from her since she came to me though I would say she's very independent. 🥰

She makes it clear when and where she wants pets and will simply walk away if not pleased. Even when she doesn't much want to be touched she generally wants to be near you and you may find yourself with a little shadow throughout the day. 😍

She's also surprisingly playful for an older lady and is fond of strings and ribbons. 💖

On arriving home, she was a little nervous at first but right from the off was rubbing against things and accepting head scratches. It didn't take her long to start coming up onto my lap on the sofa and leaning against me as we slept. 😻

Medication-wise she's super easy, her arthritis is treated by a liquid medication once per day which goes straight on her breakfast or on a small treat. She is on a diet but already losing some weight and doing really well. 🎉

She's swiftly become a wonderful part of my routine from her morning greetings, her steady presence and nighttime purrs and comforting weight. 😍

Here’s hoping Dingbat finds her forever home soon 🙏

Dingbat is looking for the following type of home 🏡
👶 Cannot live with children
🐈 Cannot live with another cat
🐶 Cannot live with a dog
🏡 Needs outdoor access

We have the best adopters ❤️❤️

Several weeks ago a wonderful family including their two canine companions came to visit Pat & Norman with a view to adopting one of them. 😍

Whilst both Pat & Norman showed themselves incredibly well, we knew they would after all they are amazing doggos, there was only space for one more canine companion. 🐶

Pat was lucky enough to be offered a fabulous forever home and we are pleased to say he is settling in incredibly well. 💖

On the adoption day, these wonderful people gave Norman a hamper of goodies so that he didn't feel left out and here he is posing with his goodies like the good boy he is!! 🥰

What would make this spectacular generosity even more spectacular is if this post raised Norman’s profile in the hope of finding his forever home! 🙏

Thank you so much to Pat’s wonderful family for being so amazing and thank you for giving Pat such a wonderful home. ❤️❤️

Can we show a lot of love to our black & white cats who are currently looking for their forever homes? 💖

Sadly, black or black & white animals typically spend more time in rescue than any other colour. They see less interest and less interaction with their social media posts. 💔

But we can change that right!!! We know we can always rely on our supporters when we need them most. 😻

To find out more about the cats in our care please click on the link below:

https://oxfordshireanimalsanctuary.org.uk/adopt/cats/

Please click on the Apply Now button should you wish to register your interest in adopting one of our cats. Please ensure you have carefully read their bios ensuring you can provide the home they need 🥰

By adopting a cat from us not only are you giving that cat a forever home, but you are also allowing us to help more cats in need 💞

If you can’t give a cat a home then please help them by sharing this post 😻

🐾 Adopting a dog is a decision that brings joy and companionship. 🐶❤️

However, successful adoptions require careful consideration of the dog's needs. 🤔

In this article, we discuss key factors that contribute to successful dog adoptions, including the importance of patience, understanding, compatibility assessment, addressing behavioural challenges, and aligning our lifestyles with the needs of our furry companions.

Together, we can create, successful, loving and fulfilling dog adoptions. 🐶❤️

It's not the ending we were hoping for 😔

As you all know, we were alerted to two helpless kittens who had been dumped by the dude of the River Thame. 💔

After rescuing these little cuties, we were informed that an adult cat had been seen in the same location. 🐈‍⬛

So we decided to set our trap in the hope that we could catch Mum. 🙏

Being a small team, we don't have the resources to wait with the trap, but the location, only five minutes from the sanctuary, meant that we could check the trap regularly. The trap has our details on it, so anyone who saw it would know why it was there.

Sadly, it has been stolen 😔 leaving us in a situation where we have no trap and we are now unsure if Mum was in the trap or if it was taken to be sold for scrap metal. 😤

This is really saddening especially, given the circumstances. 😢

If anyone knows anything about this, then please let us know if Mum is safe.

We now have to spend £254 to purchase another trap when all we were trying to do was to save a helpless animal. 😩

If you would like to donate towards a new trap or even two as we loan them out to members of the public to help catch stay cats, then please click on the link below:

https://oxfordshireanimalsanctuary.org.uk/donate/single/

Alternatively, please click on the donate button.

So sorry to ask for support but we could have done without this unnecessary cost 😢

Bea & Nugget are requesting applications 😻

These 6-month-old kittens arrived at the sanctuary because they couldn’t adjust to living with a dog. ☹️

Nugget can be a little shy at first, although that doesn’t last for long before she’s getting up to all sorts of antics with her sister. She adores cuddles and will happily accept as many as possible. ❤️

Bea is a complete live wire and loves to keep people entertained by her antics. But don’t worry she also has her calm and loving moments where she just soaks up as much love as possible. 😍

These two will bring so much love and amusement to their new forever home. ❤️

Bea & Nugget are looking for the following type of home 🏡
👶 They can live with children age 5+
🐈 They can potentially live with other young cats
🐶 They cannot live with dogs
🏡 They need outdoor access

If you can give these two sweethearts their forever home, please click on the link below 👇

Please share their plea to help them find their forever home. 🙏❤️

The dog is microchipped but sadly the contact details aren't up to date. So we are unable to contact their human companion. ☹️

The dog is safe and well and is currently being cared for by our team. 💖

❤️ Fudge ❤️

Big Softy Fudge is a sweet, sensitive soul.
He can be shy at first but once over his initial nerves, he's the biggest cuddle monster! 😍

This handsome boy would love to spend his days sunbathing and snuggling with his favourite people. Maybe this could be you? 🙏

Lurchers often get overlooked in rescue, but please give Fudge a chance. He will be an amazing addition to his new home! ❤️

Fudge is looking for the following type of home 🏡
✅️ A home without cats or small furries.
✅️ A private secure garden with minimum 6ft fencing
✅️ Fudge can live with children aged 14 +
✅️ Fudge can potentially live with another medium to large dog pending successful meets at the sanctuary.

You are safe now little ones 🖤🐈‍⬛

Earlier today we were alerted by a kind member of the public that they had spotted two young kittens in a neighbouring village along with some discarded furniture. 💔

Of course, we raced over to try and locate them and to be honest it didn't take long! In the bushes were two vulnerable kittens who were no older than 12 weeks. 😔

They were huddled together not really sure what was going on around them. But on the plus side they were hungry so this made catching them a little easier! 🐈‍⬛

After a little bit of clambering through the undergrowth and a bit of a paddle in the River Thame! 🤣

We were able to catch them both!! They have definitely grown up in a domesticated environment They were very easy to handle so all we can presume is that they have been dumped. 💔

We have since been told that someone may have sighted an adult cat in the same location so we are currently monitoring the area very closely but as of yet there isn't any indication of another cat. However, we will be setting a trap just to be on the safe side. 🙏

If you are in a situation where you are unable to look after your animals, please contact your local rescue for help and advice. Dumping them gives them little to no chance of surviving. 😢

Thank you to the kind person who spotted these little ones, if it wasn't for your phone call they wouldn't be safe in one of our warm and cosy rooms. 👏❤️

Please meet these beautiful sisters ❤️

Five-year-old Cassie & Raquel arrived at the sanctuary due to a change of circumstances that prevented their human companion from keeping them. 💔

These girls are gorgeous and they know it!! Being Maine C***s they have some typical breed traits including being very dog-like. 😍

They have settled into the cattery environment relatively well. As each day passes their personalities are shining through. ❤️

They adore chin tickles and Cassie in particular enjoys rubbing around your legs. 💖

Cassie & Raquel will need to be groomed regularly to keep their coats in tip-top condition. Please only apply if you can commit to daily grooming. 🪮

They are looking for the following type of home 🏡
👶 They can live with children 10+
🐈 They cannot live with other cats
🐶 They cannot live with dogs
🏡 Indoor only

Our Story

The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary admits & rehomes around 500 animals every year. Since opening in 1967, we have proudly managed to help over 27,500 animals find their forever home. At any one time, we have around 50 dogs, 70 cats and kittens plus a number of rabbits. We also care for our permanent guests of goats and a horse. We were founded to be inclusive, understanding and a place where any animal was welcome. Many of our animals come to us from difficult backgrounds. Some arrive with acute behavioural needs and some have immediate medical needs. We deal with each case individually and start by earning their trust and understanding their needs. We hold our ’non-destruction policy’ as a core principle for our work. This means that we will never put a healthy animal down and work to find each one a forever home. Where this is not possible, due to behavioural issues, for example, OAS is their home and our staff and volunteers give them as close to a pet’s life as possible. They are our sponsor animals.
