We are a family run Pick Your Own Farm, Shop and Cafe located at the side of the Trent and Mersey Canal in Great Haywood - a beautiful part of Staffordshire. We are committed to sourcing high quality, food and drink from farms and producers within a 30 mile radius of our home, whilst continuing to produce our own fruit, garden vegetables and bedding plants right here on the Farm. nd, our Farm Shop offers a wide range of tasty products for all dietary needs; our Cafe serves home cooked seasonal meals from 'field to plate; our seasonal Plant Centre sells beautiful plants and hanging baskets lovingly nurtured in our own glass house; and we offer 'Pick Your Own' strawberries, raspberries and blackberries during summertime and pumpkins for Halloween! We have some lovely walks and cycle rides which start and finish on our farm, plus host a range of family events throughout the year from murder mystery suppers to creative nature based workshops.

👻 CHILDREN'S HALLOWEEN TREAT BAG BLOCK PRINTING WORKSHOP 👻

Join lovely Jo from Hello Tinka to make your very own Halloween Trick or Treat Bag!

A fun filled workshop where you can learn the basics of block printing and create your very own unique spooky design. The session will include a choice of wooden Halloween themed block designs, paint colours, practice fabric and a treat bag. All equipment and aprons supplied.

The workshop will run from 10.30am - 12pm on Thursday 31st October.

Places are charged at £15 per child & we ask that an adult remain with the child during the workshop please.

*Please wear clothes that you wouldn't mind getting paint on as fabric paint can stain.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our well established Bakery Team within our Farm Shop.

The Bakery is an integral part of our Farm Shop & provides high quality products, a full range of breads, sweet treats made fresh daily, from scratch, as well as supplying product when required to the Café & Delicatessen.

Our Bakery makes all of our cakes, doughnuts, belgian buns range of sweet treats that you see in our Farm Shop, fresh every single day of the week. As well as our breads, sourdoughs, pizzas & focaccias. We are looking for someone with a flair for both areas to join our fast growing Bakery Team.

Our Bakery is not a ‘serve over’ proposition, however our Bakers will be required to engage with our customers and at all times be professional, knowledgeable and friendly to ensure the high level of customer service standards we demand are met – our Bakers must also adhere to our strict food safety standards.

The Baker is to adhere to the high standards required in terms of presentation, engaging with customers, product knowledge, and food safety.

The role will be for 3 days per week, normal working day 5am - 1pm. Initially the days would be Sunday, Monday & Tuesday but there will be times when you may be required to cover holidays etc.

🍂 AUTUMN MARKET ON THE FARM COMPLETE 🍂

WOW - what a weekend! We are just catching our breath after such a wonderful weekend celebrating our amazing local makers & creators.

Thank you so much for coming out to support them & us across the 2 days, it was another joyful weekend & we are always so grateful for the support our community shows us.

Thank you as well to all of Stall Holders for filling our Glasshouse with such talent & a lovely welcoming atmosphere!

We have a serious lack of photos (sorry) as it went in such a whirlwind but hopefully you will have seen the beautiful photos all of our Stall Holders have been posting!

Our Christmas Market is always super special & this year we have over 70 stall holders confirmed each day, on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th November, under the cover of our Glasshouse in case it snows!!

Join lovely, local florist Amy from Nova Blooms this Autumn for a fabulous, seasonal workshop.

You will learn how to create and arrange a unique floral arrangement in a pumpkin using fresh, seasonal blooms.

🌾 MAIZE MAZE LAST DAY 🌾

Today is that last day that our Maize Maze will be open for the Summer Season, from 10am - 3pm. Entry is £1 per person, over the age of 2. Please pay your entry fee at the tills in the Farm Shop before heading out to the Farm.

Tomorrow we will start to spookify the Maze ready for our Pick Your Own Pumpkin Experience opening in October!

🍂 AUTUMN MARKET ON THE FARM 🍂

There is just one week to go until our Autumn Market on the Farm, which will take place under the cover of our Glasshouse on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th September from 10am - 4pm.

There will be over 60 stalls available both days with everything from candles, soaps, jewellery, crafts, artwork, ceramics to cakes, fudge, cider & gin! So please feel free to pop down for a browse & support these brilliant local makers & producers.

Our Farm Shop & Cafe will also be open both days from 9am - 5pm as well as our Coffee Hut from 10am - 3pm.

Parking is free & dogs are welcome as long as they are kept on their leads & cleaned up after please.

We are so very excited to begin our Farm transformation once again.
Saying farewell to Summer & strawberries and welcome back to our spooky scarecrows for another season of pumpkin picking down on the Farm!

Our tickets will be released tomorrow for both our Daytime and Late Night Picking Experiences at 10am on our website.

When you think of good, hearty Autumn dishes Lamb Shanks have to be up there with the favourites!

Best served when slow cooked to perfection with red wine and the staple Lamb accompaniments- rosemary, bay leaves and onions.

So when you decide the time has come to find out those slow cookers from the back of cupboard, this is the perfect way to cook this cut of Lamb!

A dish like this doesn't need anything to fancy to finish, simply serve with a large helping of creamy mash potato.

Lamb Chops are a staple on our Butchery Counter and and a Team favourite!

Very versatile in how they can be served up, but a if you are still hanging on to Summer and not yet ready for a Sunday Roast, try serving them up with a delicious cous cous salad!

🥩 LEG OF LAMB 🥩

Our delicious leg of Lamb can be purchased fresh from our Butchery counter.
It really does make for the perfect centre piece.

For the perfect joint preparation is key. Make incisions in the meat and then place rosemary and garlic into these incisions to infuse.
Finally season with salt & pepper and rub generously with olive oil before roasting.

Roasting times vary depending on the size of the joint.

Ideal served with some fluffy roast potatoes, homemade gravy and some freshly prepared veggies.

To mark LOVE LAMB week our Team of Craft Butchers will be telling us a bit about the different cuts of Lamb that we have available here on our counter at Canalside.

Every cut of Lamb we showcase is made by hand as we work with whole carcasses. Nose to tail we pride ourselves on using everything we possibly can whilst also selling only the freshest and most local cuts of meat.

Here we have a new Lamb range, now available on the butchery counter. Produced especially for Love Lamb week.

Boneless Easy Carve Leg of Lamb with Rosemary & Mint Crumb, the perfect Sunday centre piece, served up with fresh new potatoes and minted peas.

As you may already know we are very fond of our Sourdough here at Canalside!
Each loaf is lovingly handmade using our signature sourdough starter, over a three day period. Our Bakery Team pride themselves on each and every one that is made.

To mark sourdough September we just had to give it a mention!

Did you know our Sourdough starter is also responsible for the creation of other Canalside favourites including the Sourdough Pizza, Focaccia and our Sourdough Rolls.

We have been busy planning our Pumpkin Picking Experience for another year of spooky fun down on the Farm!

As our ticket release date approaches we thought we would tell you a bit more about what to expect from our Late Night Pumpkin Experience this year.

There will of course be a fabulous variety of Pumpkins to choose from as always. With lots of shapes, colours and sizes to suit everyone.

This year our LATE NIGHT picking sessions will be back with additional dates and some fabulous street food options.

Each evening session will have a savoury and sweet street food option to choose from. Please check before booking which street food vendors will be available each evening.

We will have some more fabulous, photo opportunities and super spooky games to play. Our Halloween themed maize maze, UV maze, silent disco & marshmallow toasting will all of course be back, by popular demand.

For our evening sessions there will also be some super, spooky live entertainment and UV face painting.

Our evening sessions are £6 per person (under 2s go free). Pumpkins are then charged by weight.

These past few months we have replaced our Strawberry Tunnels and Table Tops so they are shiny and new for this growing season. We have Rotavated and ploughed the Maize Maze field and then planted our Maize Crop. Ready for all the Maze fun! That is without tending to the crops and plants we have been growing in the meantime. Our Story

We are a family run farm that has been growing its own produce for over 35 years. We bought a small holding in Great Haywood back in 1983 and planted our first strawberry plants that spring. Since then we have nurtured and supplied summer berries, autumn pumpkins, garden vegetables and plants directly to businesses across the region, and also to the local community through our own Farm Shop – one of Staffordshire’s first!

Over the last few years we have developed our ‘Pick Your Own’ experience, established a Seasonal Plant Centre and built a lovely relaxing Café (2014) overlooking the Trent and Mersey Canal. We have also rebuilt and extended our Farm Shop to include a butchery, bakery, delicatessen, gift section, award-winning wines and local beers. We were honoured to be awarded the national Small Farm Shop of the year in 2020, whilst our Cafe reached the final of the prestigious Farma Retail Association Awards.
